Five Buck Friday

Another week has whizzed right by and it's time again for my Five Buck Friday picks! Here are some fabulously affordable beauty products I love, own and use on a regular basis. You can purchase them all for a grand total of five bucks at your local drugtores/big box stores...can't get much easier than that!

Keep reading for this week's picks...

Wet  n Wild Coloricon Eyeshadow Trio in Silent Treatment (retail: $2.99 wherever Wet n Wild is sold). OK, I've said this before but it's been a while so it's time to repeat it: If you can only buy one Wet n Wild eyeshadow trio, make it Silent Treatment. It's so versatile and so easy. The taupe shade alone is worth $2.99, but the peach shade is lovely for highlighting and the black-brown is great for the crease, outer "V", or even for lining. I cannot count how many times I've been in a hurry and reached for the taupe shade in this trio. It's the perfect one-color-and-you're-out-the-door shadow when you just want to slap something on your lid and blend it up into the crease and be done with it. If I had to pack lightly for a trip and could only bring one eyeshadow compact with me, it would be this one, hands down.

NYC Long-Wearing Nail Enamel in Plaza Plumberry (retail: $0.99 wherever NYC is sold). It's not fancy, but if you like deep, vampy plums for fall/winter, this is a lovely choice that would look stunning on just about every skintone. It's perfectly opaque in two coats, super easy to apply and it's only $0.99. Plus, it's a very nice dupe of Essie Wicked.

e.l.f. Essential Concealer Brush (retail: $1 on the e.l.f. website, Target and Big Lots). I stumbled across this brush, which I use exclusively for cleaning up my manicures, on my own a few years ago. I had no idea that it was a "thing" when I purchased it. I was just looking for a small brush with firm bristles to use with acetone to clean up my manicures. But since then, I've come to realize that many, many people find this to be the best brush for post-mani clean-up. I've been using this brush, and this brush only, to clean up my manis since before I even made this video back in 2010. I haven't even had to bust out my back-up yet, because the original brush I purchased in 2010 is still going strong. I seriously cannot do a manicure without this brush--it's essential (see what I did there?).

There you have it! Do you already own any of this week's Five Buck Friday picks? If so, I'd love to hear from you!

  5. I love WnW Silent Treatment! You are right on with it's versatility. You can easily do either a soft or smokey look with that one little palette!

I have the Elf concealer brush. I use mine for gel liners. But using it to clean up my manis? Never would have thought! I'm busting out my back up just for that!

  6. I have the concealer brush and never use it for concealer. i use it to pack on lid colour, sometimes, but it's not even great for that (it's usually when all my other brushes are dirty!). i should try Silent Treatment sometime; Walking on Eggshells is my HG, always-packed, go-to trio for neutral, defined eyes (and brows).

  11. The ELF concealer brush is totally a "thing" for us nail people, I didn't realize it either until I started hanging out at MU Alley. It's the perfect size to clean up the sides of a nail. I will definitely look out for the NYC and the WnW shadow palette.

  12. I just bought my 2nd "Silent Treatment" palette because I go through that peach shade like crazy. I use it all-over as a base, and to blend, and as highlight, no matter what other eyeshadows I use, so I hit pan in about a month! I even use it to help clean up fallout under my eyes and it really brightens up that area! I tried the taupe several times and it looks really bad on me. I can't make it work. I wish I could just swap with one of you that love it for the peach, haha, because I bought the second palette JUST for the peach shade and will probably never touch the taupe or the black-ish shades. I figured the $2.99 is worth it for the peach because I don't know if there are any dupes but if there are, they are likely to cost more than $3.

I have the e.l.f. concealer brush and I was using it as a lip brush for glosses that come in pans but now I use it to dab some Physicians Formula Healthy Wear Powder Foundation into/over some small areas of hyperpigmentation if I'm only wearing the PF powder as foundation that day.
