BREAKING BEAUTY NEWS: Boots No7 coming to Walgreens

A huge thanks to my pal Halifax of Sparkled Beauty for this one (by the way, if you want the scoop on Canadian beauty sales and deals, definitely follow her blog!).

From the UK website Daily Mail:

Boots' No 7 label will become a billion-dollar global brand following the chain’s partial takeover by Walgreens.

The US pharmacy giant is understood to have agreed the purchase of a 45 per cent stake to help it secure access to Boots’ own brands, including No 7.

It will mean the label will be launched in most of Walgreens’ 8,000 US stores, leading to sales of about $1 billion (£650 million) a year within the next two to three years, sources said.

The No 7 range, promoted by actress and model Keeley Hawes, has sales of over £200 million a year.

No7 was given new life with the launch of Protect & Perfect anti-wrinkle beauty serum. Boots sold a year’s supply of the product in two weeks in 2007 after a BBC documentary suggested it was the only anti-ageing cream to have any effect beyond regular moisturisers.

A relaunch two years later prompted another buying frenzy in its shops.

Wow! Pretty exciting news for Walgreens shoppers, right? Up until this point, I believe that the only other place we've been able to find a large assortment of Boots No7 (and a smaller assortment of Boots Botanics) products here in the US was at Target. I wonder how this will affect Boots' placement at Target--do you think they'll go away from Target stores completely? Or maybe just the No7 line? Maybe Target will only carry the Botanics line in the future. Who knows? Only time will tell, of course.

Readers: how do you feel about this news? What are your faves from Boots No7? What products do you hope to see in Walgreens stores?

  1. I think this is pretty exciting! I do shop at Target, by I have a Walgreens right around the corner from me. This will be nice for those who only have access to the brand online.

  2. I love to try new brands, and I am a dedicated Walgreens shopper.

  3. Holy crap! Maybe this will help drive prices down and we'll see coupons or more sales on Boots products.

I lived in Scotland for a year. I remember wandering into Target's beauty section after I got back and briefly forgetting what side of the pond I was on. Boots is the best!

    Thanks for the news, G.

  4. Does Walgreens take returns on opened cosmetics? Because Target will not, and that stops me from trying the Boots stuff. This could be a good thing for mr!

    1. YES! As I always say, you can return/exchange used products at Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid. I wish I could shout that from the rooftops so that people would stop thinking this isn't possible. LOL!! Thanks for asking and giving me another opportunity to say it! :)

    2. I've had no problems returning cosmetic items to Target. In fact they don't even ask you why you're returning it as long as you have a receipt or the cc you used when purchasing the item. They do have an exception on their policy:

"The following items cannot be returned if opened and may only be exchanged: music, movies, video games and software, sports cards, collectible Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures, die cast cars.
The following items must be returned within 45 days: computer hardware (Netbooks, eReaders, Tablets), cameras and camcorders.
Different return policies may apply for contract cell phones. "

Everything else I've been able to return with no problem and no questions asked - you should maybe talk to a manager and clarify their rules. I thought their return policy was across the board not per individual store?

    3. Mama May, I wrote to them about their returnpolicy, because they would NOT let me return a package of Sonia Kashuk blush. I thought they might make an exception because th at is an exclusive brand and they don't have testers, but nope.

    4. I don't know what's going on here: I have also been able to return opened skincare/cosmetics to Target. And, as Mama May stated, I have presented either a receipt or debit card, and no questions were asked. Of course, I did alert the customer service desk if there was something wrong with the item, such as a broken eyeshadow or a moisturizer that was labeled gentle but irritated my skin. Hope this helps everyone!

    5. If I can jump in here, i've asked Target CS about this too, and my store had about the same response as what Darling Petunia pasted in her comment, below.

I think that the general rule is if there's something wrong with the product, they will accept it. But if you just don't like it or the shade doesn't work for you, they won't. Of course some stores may be more lenient about this, as evidenced in the comments above.

As for cvs, rite aid and Walgreens, all three accept returns/exchanges on used product, no matter what the issue.
      Hope that helps!

  5. I've also seen Boots sold at Ulta too. Walgreens is a great addition.

    1. Oh, I hope they carry their polishes!!

    2. I hope they carry the polish too. Back in 2008 Target used to have the nail polish. They clearanced it all in August of that year and it was never seen again.

  7. Yay! I hope the selection will be great! Looking forward to seeing this soon!

  8. Cool. I'd like to try their products, hopefully after getting them on sale at Walgreens. ^^

  9. Thanks for the shout out G. We do have some No7 skin care products here but the line has been reduced to core products, hardly anything to buy. There's hope :)

  10. That's great news! I'm sure Walgreen's will have better sales than Target does.

  11. So excited! I watch a lot of British YouTubers, so it'll be great that it will be so much easier to try some of these products! (Though with my love of ExtraBucks, I kinda wish CVS carried it too. Oh well. Can't have it all.)

    1. CVS used to carry Boots!! I remember a few years ago, when they were getting rid of the line, I posted that all of their inventory was 75% off. :) It was awesome...I got so many fantastic lipsticks during that clearance sale! *sigh*

  12. Yay! Boots rocks, especially the No. 7 line. Love the Preserve and Protect night cream; it's so rich, but doesn't make me break out, and I love the No.7 serum. I hope we see more of the Boots cosmetics (and a lot of coupons and sales!) Walgreens is certainly making a name for itself in drugstore beauty retail!

  13. I think this is awesome news! There are so many of the Boots skincare line that I already have tried & liked, but I don't live anywhere near a Target (closest one is 2 hrs away). So I usually have to order my stuff online or pick it up whenever I have a dr's appt every 6 months or so in a large city & have to make the trip. This will also give me the opportunity to try some of the makeup line which I have shied away from since I don't live near a Target where I could return it if I didn't like what I had purchased. I can't hardly wait!

  14. Target policy states things must be "unopened and in new condition."
When I wrote, I received this reply:

Returns at Target are easy with a receipt dated within 90 days. However, Target
stores are unable to return or exchange opened or used make-up items due to
disappointment in color or texture. We're unable to re-sell the product or
receive credit from the manufacturer on used product. I'm sorry for any
    disappointment this may cause.

So if something is defective, they will take the item back, but if you just don't like the color, they will not. I am not willing to lie just to get around their dumb policy. The stores who understand how hard it is to buy without trying get my business now.

    1. Thanks for this. This is almost the exact response that I received when I asked my local target about beauty returns.

  15. If you ever run into an issue like that in a store immediately ask for a manager .. Chances are that the cashier has no idea about that policy and doesn't want to get in trouble.. And if the manager is unaware also, tell them that you always shop at -----whatever pharmacy chain----- because you are aware that they have a great return policy on cosmetics & you have sensitive skin .. That's y u shop there bc of the policy... Uugh it's an embarrassing situation! Hope that helps

  16. I was hoping this would happen as my UK friends alerted me to Walgreen's buying Boots stock! I used to be a Boots Beauty Advisor, and while I can't say what will happen at Target, I can say that all the beauty advisors are employed by Boots not Target. So I guess time will tell. Mostly I'm thrilled they're opening a Walgreens within walking distance to my house! XXX Suzanne

  17. What became of their Time Dimensions line? They always had No. 7 but that seemed to be formulated for younger skin. I'm 67 and absolutely LOVED their TD cleanser, moisturizer, both day and night and other products in that line.

  18. Whatever happened to their Time Dimensions line? I loved it! I'm 67 and the No. 7 didn't seem to be as good as TD.

  19. From what I've seen walgreens is getting quite a few line by the end of this summer(2013). Right now they have the No.7 men's line available in store. and the Botanics line and a haircare line(can't think of the name) will be rolling out soon. and many more lines expected. there is also talk about a full Walgreens purchase of Boots by 2015.
