Brows: tweeze, wax, thread or au naturale? And why?
If I didn't shape my brows, I'd look like I have two giant caterpillars resting above my eyes (my seventh grade class photo features me and my two "pet caterpillars" and still makes me laugh to this day). Therefore, I must groom my brows. I wax my own brows because, well, I'm cheap. In-between waxings, I tweeze for maintenance, but I really would like to have my brows threaded some day. How about you?
I don't do anything to my eyebrows, and I never have. I probly should, tho. hahah
ReplyDeleteI have dark hair, so I definitely have to do some maintenance. I always tweeze. I've had them waxed before, but my skin reacted pretty negatively to the wax...got redness and pain that was atypical and lasted for an entire day. I've never tried threading, but I heard it's more painful than tweezing...ouch.
ReplyDeletei was with the nads eyebrow shaper and between uses of that i tweeze.
ReplyDeletei used to tweeze mine but I got too lazy and let them grow to have them professionally done. I had them threaded last week and omg it's such a huge difference! I'm a threading convert now!
ReplyDeleteI'm too broke to regularly pay for waxing-- and the two times I've had it done the waxer took off too much for my liking-- and threading isn't widely available around here. (That's one more reason I miss living in London, where in my neighborhood there were tons of tiny beauty shops whose estheticians had bad-ass threading skills and very affordable rates.) So it's tweezing for me. I've actually just sent my handy Tweezermans out to be sharpened after many years of use. Hope they get back soon, my backups are terrible.
ReplyDeleteI used to never touch my brows being that they're so scarce. But now I do pluck the hairs that spring up outside of the area I fill them in at. I've been wanting to try waxing but I'm scared they're gonna take off too much.
ReplyDeleteI have to tweeze my brows b/c the hairs grow so quickly. After that until I need to tweeze again, I let them go au naturale. I have threaded my brows a few times and I have had good experiences when I got them done. It's such a lifesaver for me b/c of how rapidly my brows grow & it gets rid of so many hairs than if I were to tweeze.
ReplyDeleteI have to wax my brows every two weeks or I too am a victim of caterpillar brows. If I'm not able to get them waxed in time, I will tweeze or sometimes take a small razor and shave(ouch)
ReplyDeleteI used to get mine threaded, then my threading lady moved away. I get them waxed occasionally when I think they're getting out of hand, but I'm mostly going natural for now.
ReplyDeleteI always had a really nice shape to my brows and never did anything but tweeze a stray or too. However as I get older my eyebrows are getting really really thin along with being quite blonde they look nonexistent!! I would like to have eyebrow extentions!!!! LOL. I keep meaning to get a serum to increase them, but knowing me I would use for a week and then stop...
ReplyDeleteI've been waxing and tweezing long enough that they maintain shape pretty well, but I do need to do some clean-up tweezing with an occasional wax job if they go really rogue on me (or I get really lazy).
ReplyDeleteOver 20 years I'd get them done bi-weekly. My beloved girl moved back to her homeland (Poland) upon her departure I tired threading for the first time(the word "ouch" is an understatement) LOL. Just recently I went back to waxing... never found the "one" so now I visit "not the one" when I need a fresh start... as I tweeze my own eyebrows! -Leslie
ReplyDeleteTweeze (tweezerman's are the best). I do not have especially bushy brows, but they are very uneven, so I have to keep up on them, usually once or twice a week.
ReplyDeleteI get mine threaded. I can't pluck my own eyebrows. lol When I had them waxed I noticed them getting smaller and thinner so it's a good thing I stopped. =)
ReplyDeleteI tweeze my brows whenever I feel they need a little help. The last time I had them 'professionally' waxed (like, 7 years ago) the lady overdid it and I felt like a surprised hooker. The shape made my face look extra puffy and weird, and I never want to go back.
ReplyDeletei tweeze... i find it difficult to wax my own eyebrows, i can never get the shape right x_X
ReplyDelete1 fill in your eyebrow as usual.
Delete2 get a white pencil and draw under your eyebrow. this will act as a guide where underneath that white line is where you place the wax at or you can tweeze away. this is a method for those can't afford going to the salon but want to maintain the look.
Even though I had medium brown hair, my eyebrows are very sparse, and from the arch outwards are 'invisible' because of blonde coloring. I had them waxed last summer, AND LOVED IT, but I have heard that it's not good to get it done regularly, so I've been holding off since then (I'm also incredibly cheap). One eyebrow grows thicker than the other (weird, right?!) so I MUST fill in with an eyebrow pencil.
ReplyDeleteI wonder, has anyone dyed their eyebrows? Any luck in that?
I've had my eyebrows tinted at the salon when I've gone in for a wax and I've also done it myself. I purchased a kit from amazon.com though I hear "just for men" works well too. I much prefer tinting to applying makeup every day to my invisibly blonde brows.
DeleteI get mine threaded about once a month or so and try to maintain them with tweezers in between that. Threading is pretty sweet. Unlike waxing it won't burn your skin, and it lasts for a long time. It's not very expensive either, depending on where you go. The person doing it usually works with your natural arch so it looks nice and natural. It stings a bit when you're new to it, but it goes away fast. After years of school and working on a computer my eyes are starting to fail me, so tweezing isn't exactly an option anymore. :P
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have my brows threaded one day, but for the time being I tweeze them.

I've had an ugly breakout anytime I've had my brows professionally waxed, so I tweeze them myself on a near-daily basis. Pasty white skin + ebony black hair = major upkeep required. :-)
ReplyDeleteI pluck mine. But I like getting them threaded. I just can't wait that long to make it worthwhile for threading. I am plucking every morning. I do know I won't wax again because threading is much better and more precise.
ReplyDeleteAnd all you ladies that wax your own brows, my hat is off to you! I wouldn't dare try. \-O
I get my eyebrows threaded and tweeze between appts. Threading gives you the most natural yet defined eyebrows ever! It is more precise than wax and great for sensitive skin. I have never waxed so I can't compare but waxing pulls (and ages) the skin so I can't imagine how it is less painful.
ReplyDeleteI get my eyebrows threaded and tweeze once in a while. Threading gives you the most defined, yet natural (No over-waxed surprised look) eyebrows! I have never tried wax so I can't compare but waxing pulls (and ages) the skin whereas threading only pulls hairs...so I can't imagine it would be more painful. I highly recommend trying it once if you never have.
ReplyDeleteI tweeze but love to get them threaded for shaping when I can. I swore off waxing when I got burned in a salon. Threading and tweezing overall seems to last longer for me.
ReplyDeleteI get mine waxed regularly every two to three weeks. I used to get them threaded, but it hurt me so bad that I'd cry every time afterward (while admiring my brows LOL). I've also had mine groomed with a razor in the past by a barber!
ReplyDeleteI used to get mine waxed all the time..so done with that! Keep them nice and trimmed. however having natural or fuller eyebrows just makes you look younger. JMO :)))
ReplyDeleteTweeze! My eyebrows are DIY. Never been touched by a professional. But they look fine. I mean, my friends even complimented me on what a good job I'd done when they first saw my groomed brows.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I had my brows professionally waxed and tinted was a revelation. With my coloring, blonde and golden undertones I can look washed out and featureless, so having my brows shaped and defined is a necessity. I'm not good at doing it myself and I try to save money by tweezing or at-home waxing but it's never as good as getting em done!
ReplyDeleteI definitely tweeze my brows. I don't trust anyone else to do them, I've just seen too many horror stories where too much brow got taken off and regrowing your brows to your preferred shape after accidents like that is a long, awful process.
ReplyDeleteI have psoriasis, so there is no way I'd wax my eyebrows as the damage to my skin could turn into psoriasis. So instead I went with threading and sometimes tweeze between appts. I find it very natural and not very painful for me. For those who find it painful I'd suggest taking some tylenol 15-30 min before getting your brows done.
ReplyDeleteThread, waxing damages the first layer of your skin. For me, a person who has psoriasis that is bad news. The lady I go to works with my natural brow and face shape, I love it. For those who find threading painful, try taking some tylenol 15-30 min before hand.
ReplyDeleteI tweeze - and like previous commenters said, Tweezerman is the BEST. And like Aviva, my brows have never been touched by a pro either. I read your post raving about DIY waxing and tried it. Blech. Too messy, and I couldn't get the timing just right, so only a few hairs were removed. Haven't tried any other techniques. I stick with tweezing because it's what I know, I'm comfortable with it...and it works. (Bonus: it's cheap!)
ReplyDeleteTweeze - it's the cheapest way to maintain them.
ReplyDeleteTweezerman tweezers are the best thing to ever happen to my brows! I also try to remember to trim them with so they are less unruly.
