Swatchfest: Six shades from the China Glaze Capitol Colours collection

I recently received six of the shades from the new China Glaze Capitol Colours collection (inspired by the upcoming film The Hunger Games) and I'm so excited to show them to you!

This collection has already hit Sally Beauty, and I believe it's already landed at Ulta too. To view bottle shots of the other six shades in this collection, please click here. These polishes retail for $7 each.

For all of the following photos, I used two coats of polish and no top coat. In the third photo of each set, I will show you what each shade looks like topped with the flakie in this collection, Luxe and Lush.

I love golden olives and Agro did not disappoint. The gold shimmer in this polish really gives it beautiful dimension. Two coats yields perfect opacity.

Here is Agro topped with one coat of Luxe and Lush. Luxe and Lush is a flakie a la Hidden Treasure (iridescent flakes that, at certain angles, look like glowing embers). The flakes in Luxe and Lush are rather large, so you'll have to treat them as you would a chunky glitter polish. In other words, be prepared for a little bit of coaxing with your brush to get the flakes exactly where you want them. Luxe and Lush really brings out the gold in Agro:

Riveting is a bright, bold orange with gorgeous gold glitter. Two coats yields good opacity, but you can see slight visible nail line in the photo above. If VNL bothers you, be prepared for three coats.

I love this one topped with Luxe and Lush. It really brings out the gold:

Apologies for the tip-wear in these photos; I actually wore a full mani of Mahogany Magic for two days before I snapped these pics. I love the warmth of this brown, and two coats was all that was needed for perfect opacity.

I really like how Mahogany Magic somehow manages to bring out the green in Luxe and Lush:

I love the bronze metallic foil quality of Harvest Moon. This one went on a tiny bit sheer at first, but two coats was all I needed for good opacity.

Luxe and Lush + Harvest Moon looks like crushed-up jewels on a bed of bronze. In person it's even more stunning.

The one true glitter in this collection, Electrify is probably best as a top coat, but in these pictures I wanted to show you what two (thick) coats looked like on my bare nails.

And here are a few photos of one coat of Luxe and Lush over two coats of Electrify. There is so much going on here that my poor little camera didn't know what to focus on. It's a crazy, glittery, sparkly combo that is very high-impact in person. I think it would look amazing on toes.

Do you already own any shades from the Capitol Colours collection? If so, what colors do you have and how do you like them? If not, do you have your eye on any colors in particular? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I def want to check these out. I'm torn between riveting and harvest moon, along with the nice luxe top.

    1. Hum...between the two, I'd probably go with Riveting first, because you'll get a lot of use out of it on fingers and toes going into spring and summer. You could always get Harvest Moon later, which is such a pretty color for fall. Does that help? :)

  2. I can't decide what I want! I know I want fast track and stone cold. But I can't decide on getting either agro, luxe and lush, neither, or both.

    1. Hum...well I would say get both, but if you could only get ONE (between Agro and Luxe and Lush) I would probably get Luxe and Lush if you don't already have a flakie like that. Just because you'll be able to have a lot of fun layering it over all of the colors in your existing stash. But then again, I really love Agro so...LOL! Sorry, I'm not much help, am I?

    2. Personally I would skip stone cold because it chips extremely fast. Even before 24 hours. It's really not that great and I would get fast track agro and luxe and lush.

  5. I bought Luxe and Lush and Smoke and Ashes today at Sally's. I paid $4.99 a bottle as I have their member card. Their regular price is $5.99 I believe. I haven't tried them on yet, was planning on doing that tonight but smashed my hand and broke a nail down to the quick so I might have to stick with paler colors until it grows out a bit. Off topic, right next to THG display was one random bottle of Finger Paints Twisted that I grabbed up quick. I couldn't believe it!

    1. How funny is that? Well, I didn't actually pick them myself (they were sent to me) but it's a crazy coincidence that they just happen to be the ones you want! :) And you are so welcome--I hope you love them even more when you get 'em.

  7. Your swatches are beautiful! I bought Harvest Moon, Luxe and Lush, Stone Cold & Smoke and Ashes. I found them on Ebay for 3.99$. I think I might buy Agro too but I would like to know first how it compares to Peace on Earth. I guess it's a tad darker...

    1. Thank you! :) I don't think I own Peace on Earth, but from what I can tell, I think Peace on Earth might have a touch more yellow in it.

  8. I bought Agro and Smoke and Ashes at Sally's over the weekend. So far I've only worn Agro, and I love it! I got two compliments too!

  9. I picked up a few on ebay as well. Harvest Moon, Luxe and Lush, Stone Cold, Smoke and Ashes, and Fast Track. I may have to go back for Riveting, Electrify, Agro, and Dress Me Up. Love your swatches!

  10. Thanks for showing photos of Luxe and Lush applied over all of these. I've only seen it applied over Dress Me Up--which is a gorgeous combo but seeing it applied on the other colors has led to me realize what is causing all the flakie hype. I can now actually appreciate the trend even though I can't see myself wearing it (Flect coats are gorgeous to LOOK at but I quite dislike the rough texture of any sort of flecks on my nails and even further dislike the trouble of spackle coating to alleviate it).

  13. I have Stone Cold, Smoke & Ashes, Mahogany Magic, Foie Gras, Agro, Fast Track, and Hook & Line...which was everything they had at my Sally's last week! I walked into the store to look for these and browsed the nail polish section quickly and thought, 'bummer they don't have any of the hunger games collection yet', then noticed that the bottles on the electropop display looked mighty dark for what I know of that collection. Upon further inspection, for some reason someone had placed all the hunger games bottles on the crazy colorful pastel electropop display - verrrry odd-looking!! Super glad I took a second look.

    1. Maybe someone was hiding them in plain sight. Maybe waiting for their paycheck to buy them but hoping to throw other shoppers off in the mean time.

  14. I'm going to wait and see them in person to decide. Riveting for sure is on my list. I finally found out that the colors represent all the districts not just the capitol.

  15. Maybe it's because I game too much, but I NEED the "Agro" color.

  16. Would you say this flakie is a dupe of something else? I would hate to get it & already have its twin!

  17. I just wanted to let you know, I haven't done swatches yet, but I'm thinking that OPI's dulce de leche and the hunger game's dress me up might be dupes. I picked dress me up today and you can't tell a difference from the outside of the bottles. I might be returning it for a different color tomorrow.

  18. I like Riveting, but in the pictures it looks similar to WNW 90210range, which I already have. I don't know what it is about Luxe & Lush that bothers me so much, but I just...really don't like it. I think it's because it looks chunky and I'm not a fan of chunky nails, haha. If I pick up any of these, it'll probably be Mahogany Magic.

  19. I am going to my local beauty supply to pick these up tomorrow!!! I am getting them all except mahogany magic, I feel like it might not look good on my hands or skin tone I have fair skin, still on the fence. I am so excited!!! I have been anxious for these since CG released a statement they were making this collection!

  21. I got mine and 'OMG' they are divine! I've been cheating a bit though. I have been using Luxe and Lush with my Sinful Colors Cast Aways. ;)

  22. I want the entire collection. But I'm a broke jobless college student living at home. My birthdays is in early april, hopefully I can get this collection! :D

    1. I got about 8 of these colors about 2 weeks ago for 3.29 each at sallys beauty supply. And 2 at ulta for 4.99 each.

  23. After much debate, I bought Electrify and Fast Track (the taupe-y one with gold shimmer). Fast Track is sooooo freaking pretty! I'm really glad I got it. Electrify will probably see some use come December-- I dunno, it just seems so Christmasy to me.

Does anyone know how Luxe & Lush compares to Color Club Covered in Diamonds?

  24. Riveting and harvest moon look very very different in person. I have riveting on right now and it is so much darker and almost leans red. Harvest moon is darker as well. Is it your camera or possibly different batches? I like how your riveting looks so much more!
