Swatchfest: Wet n Wild Limited Edition Ice Baby Collection

This post completes my coverage of the Wet n Wild Holiday 2011 Collection and, for some of you, I might have saved the best for last! (If you'd like to see my swatches, reviews, etc. of the eyeshadow palettes that Wet n Wild has released for the holidays, click here.) Ice Baby is a Walgreens-exclusive collection. To see if this collection has been spotted in your area, click here.

NEWSFLASH: reader appletwo just informed me that Scrangie did a dupe comparison post today of some of the shades in Wet n Wild Ice Baby ($2.99) to the Nails Inc. Special Effects 3D Glitters ($9.50). Check out Scrangie's post here.

*TIP: all of the polishes in this collection are glitters, so I suggest using the foil method (click here for details)  for removal. It makes the removal process 100 times easier.

PLEASE NOTE: All of the polishes in this collection dry to a semi-matte finish, so I used one coat of clear top coat on all of the "nails" in the following swatches. I also swatched these polishes in three ways: first I did two coats of polish, second I did one coat of polish over a black creme polish, and third I did one coat of polish over a white creme polish. All swatches were photographed outdoors in shade with no camera flash. I found this the best way to capture the details in each polish. But please note, these polishes are much more sparkly and vibrant in direct sunlight. They really come alive in the sunshine.

GIVE ME A PRICE QUOTE

I apologize for the horrible close-up of this bottle, but this shade made my camera freak out. It just could not focus in on the glitter! A few things I want to say about Give Me A Price Quote: the color is MUCH more chartreuse than my pictures indicate. I know it looks gold here, but trust me, it's a beautiful, vibrant chartreuse in real life. Also, if you look closely at the black nail below, you'll see that the glitter in this polish contains what I would call "micro bar glitter". I'm sure there's a better term for it but that's what I'm calling it!

Surprisingly, this "micro bar glitter" doesn't feel sharp or terribly bumpy to the touch. It seems to lay on the nail pretty evenly and one coat of top coat makes it pretty smooth if you are using just one layer of polish. Two layers of this polish will give it a texture on the nail, but I don't think it's overly bumpy.

24 CARATS

Here's another one that made my camera freak out--apologies for the blurry photo above. This shade also contains that "micro bar glitter", and in person the gold seems to come out more than what you see in my pics. For some reason, the copper in this shade pops out in my photos, but in person I think this looks more like a gold polish with beautiful copper accents.

If you're a glitter lover, I think this is a collection that's worth tracking down. There are some unique combinations here and as you can see, some of these polishes come alive when worn over a black or white base. For me, using one layer of these glitters keeps them from becoming excessively bumpy to the touch. Once you use two layers, shades like Back Alley Deals (purple) and Believe Me It's Real (blue) do become more bumpy to the touch, even after applying a clear top coat. Other than that, I had no issues at all with these polishes. Application was a snap and removal is easy if you use the Foil Method!

Do you own any polishes from the Ice Baby Collection? If so, what shades do you own? If not, are any shades in particular catching your eye?

  1. I was lucky enough to get to a store with a full display, and I bought 5 of the polishes - I skipped the teal, the lavendar, and the chartreuse, since I knew I wouldn't wear them much. I ADORE the 5 I bought though, I have been wearing them constantly!

The gold/copper and silver are probably my favorites because they're the most "me" - but the purple and dark blue are probably the prettiest two.

This collection is just so amazing. Wish they'd make it permanent!

  2. Diamond In The Rough looks phenomenal especially over black! I picked it up at Walgreens the other day & put it back thinking it might be too sheer. Now I'm sure it'll be gone :(

  3. Oooh, those bar glitters are so pretty over black. I'll have to consider purchasing those. Also, I have Diamond in the Rough and it's very sparkly. :D

  4. I bought the red one. I put a base coat on, then three coats of the glitter. Topped it off with a glossy topcoat. A day later, I looked at my hand and all of it had peeled off of thumbnail. I looked down at the floor, and there was a thumbnail-shaped flake of glitter nail polish. I won't be repurchasing.

  6. I looooove these glitters. I went to Walgreens everyday for over a week to try and get at the display before it was wiped out, and finally found it on Monday. I went again today and other than the seven I had gotten that night they're all still there! ...so I bought the other bottle of the darker purple with fuchsia glitter as a backup.

Right now I've got one coat of Diamond in the Rough as an accent nail on over my manicure of Finger Paints Stunning Stilettos (great formula!), and it looks really awesome.

  7. These look great and the swatches are nice but it seems that the glitters are better in the bottle than on the nail. So sad...pretty, but sad.

  11. Samantha: Like I mentioned in my review, I purposefully photographed these in the shade so that you could better see the detail of the glitter (when I photographed them in the sun, the glitter washed out the pictures because it's so bright and sparkly). In real life, these polishes come ALIVE in the sunlight. They sparkle like jewels and are absolutely awesome. If you click on Scrangie's post (the link is that the top of my review) you can kind of see what I'm talking about. Hope that helps.
