It's tea time with iherb!

I realize this is a bit outside the normal range of topics that I cover on Nouveau Cheap, but please allow me to explain. Back when I did the review and giveaway for Madre Labs courtesy of iherb.com, I was given some additional samples of some of their other, non-beauty-related, products. One of the samples was a packet of tea from St. Dalfour, and when tried that particular tea I could not get it out of my mind.

I immediately wanted to share this tea with you, but I figured I'd ask the folks at iherb.com if they might be interested in sending a box for a proper review. They were kind enough to allow me to select a few other teas for a possible future review, so I decided to hold off telling you about the St. Dalfour tea until I received the additional teas.

So after much indecision and LOTS of research (products on iherb.com are reviewed by customers, which is always so helpful), I narrowed it down to four teas. Now that I've had a chance to brew several cups of tea from each brand, I'd like to share my thoughts with you. I know that many of you are fellow tea-drinkers, so hopefully the next time you plot an order at iherb, you can also consider trying a new tasty tea!

I thought I'd start my tea journey with a nice oolong:

Prince of Peace Premium Oolong Tea
(iherb price: $5.01, 100 tea bags)

Oolong is a traditional Chinese tea (think the hot tea you're served at many Chinese restaurants) and one of my favorites. What made me select this particular brand was the 108 reviews on iherb. Many reviewers called this their favorite oolong tea of all time, noting its smoothness and creaminess.

From the moment I took my first sip, I fell in love with this tea. It's soothing, mellow, smooth and perfect for a cold winter morning. If you like oolong teas, I highly recommend this one. And for just $5, you get a lot of bang for your buck since there are 100 tea bags in this box (for more information and to order, click here).

Next up, I selected Mr. G's favorite tea, chamomile:

Traditional Medicinals Organic Chamomile Tea
(iherb price: $3.84, 16 bags)

What made me select this particular chamomile (aside from the fact that Mr. G would have been very bummed to see a new box of teas in the house without a chamomile variety) was that it's both fair-trade and organic. Also, it received some exceptional reviews on iherb.

After the first few cups, Mr. G proudly declared this the best chamomile tea he has ever tasted (please trust me, he's had a lot). And I might have to agree with him--this is one delicious cup of tea. It's not too strong, yet it's not too weak; it's just an ideal balance. It's that tea you crave right before bed, and I love how I feel after a nice hot cup of this tea--calm, a tiny bit sleepy and oh so relaxed. For more info and to order, click here.

If you'd like proof as to how much Mr. G loved this tea, I actually had to grab this box out of the trash to take the picture! I wasn't aware that he had finished the entire box until I saw it in the kitchen trash basket the other day. You should have seen the look of horror on my face as I screamed, "Oh NO! I haven't taken a picture of the box yet!". Ha! Luckily, I was able to salvage a wrapper as well:

Next, I decided to experiment with a variety of tea I had never had before:

Hampstead Tea Organic Fairtrade Rosehip Hibiscus Tea
(iherb price: $4.77 , 20 tea bags)

Another fair-trade organic tea, I decided to go with Rosehip Hibiscus because of the great reviews on iherb. I love agua de jamaica (a popular Mexican drink made from dried hibiscus flowers), so I figured I might love this tea as well. I was right! I love the tartness of this tea and its bright red color. This probably isn't one of those teas that everyone will love, but if you know you like hibiscus flowers, then you might want to give this one a shot. PS: I like this one iced as well, with a touch of agave syrup. For more info and to order, click here.

And last but certainly not least, the tea that is responsible for this entire blog post:

St. Dalfour Premium Organic Golden Mango Green Tea
(iherb price: $3.24, 25 tea bags)

If you love green tea and you love mango, you will NOT be disappointed by this tea. The most popular tea on the iherb site with a whopping 130+ reviews, there's a reason why so many people love this stuff. This tea is BURSTING with flavor and each sip is better than the last. The flavor, the aroma (I wish I could bottle it and wear it as perfume!), everything about it is spells L.O.V.E. for me. I honestly cannot stress enough how much I love this tea. Add a tiny bit of honey to your cup and it is pure heaven.

I hope you enjoyed taking this little iherb tea-venture with me. I know it's not beauty-related, but with the cold weather upon us, who doesn't love a hot cup of tea, right?

If you've never ordered from iherb.com before, they ship internationally and first time customers can use code WOW123 to receive $5 off their first order.

Have you tried any of the teas mentioned in this review?

  5. I love tea! I am so happy that you did this review! I saw in a previous comment that you like Earl Grey... I bought a tea called "Paris" from Harney and Sons and I LOVE it. It's absolutely a daily drinker for me. If you haven't checked out Harney and Sons, they are absolutely worth a look! They actually made the tea for the royal wedding! I order tons of stuff from them, it's always worth it.
