Back in December when the new Milani Rockstar Heavy Glitter Lacquer collection started surfacing at CVS, I think everyone's attention was kind of focused on the shade Gems (and with good reason! It's pretty amazing!).The Rockstar Heavy Glitter collection contains One Coat Glitter polishes and Jewel FX polishes (the Jewel FX polishes are Gold and Gems and they're the ones with the huge, chunky glitter pieces).
Even though Gems seems to be the showstopper in this collection, today I'd like to show you a few of the other pretty shades in this collection (FYI, these are not limited edition and will soon be available to everyone). I received four shades for review from this collection so first I'd like to show you the red and gold shades, and a little later in the week I'll show you the other two I received.
Milani One Coat Glitter in Red Sparkle
(retail: $4.99)
Let me first say that none of my pics do this color justice. The name of this polish is so fitting--it's PACKED with bright red glitter that truly sparkles in the light. It totally reminds me of Dorothy's red shoes from the Wizard of Oz!
This one took two coats for total opacity, and the formula kind of reminded me of glitter glue. In other words, it doesn't feel like a traditional polish when you're painting your nails, but I think it's really neat and it wasn't hard for me to work with at all. Also, this polish dries to a semi-matte finish so you'll definitely want to use a good top coat if you want your nails shiny.
Here's a blurry pic so that you can you get a better idea of the sparkle in this polish. Even still, you really need to see it in person to appreciate just how sparkly this color is. I've been wearing it on my toes for two weeks now and I seriously do not want to take it off. This is the first shade I've wanted to use twice in a row on my toes in I don't know how long. When I'm on my couch at night, I find myself propping my foot on the coffee table just to stare at my toes in amazement.
Next up:
Milani Jewel FX in Gold
(retail: $4.99)
Gold is blingy to the 100th degree! These pics were taken after two coats, and I'm sure that if I added a third, you would barely be able to see my nails underneath. I'm looking forward to seeing how this looks layered over another color, but for now I'm just in awe of the bling-factor when it's worn by itself.
If you're a gold glitter lover, I think this one's a must-have. I can't recall seeing another shade like this at the drugstore. Oh, and I also want to add that this one seems less dense than Gems. In other words, there's more of the clear base coat detectable in Gold, whereas Gems is almost pure glitter with much less base.
However you slice it, Red Sparkle and Gold are certainly not for the timid. I think I'll probably reserve both shades for my toes, but that's perfectly fine by me. I love rocking glitter on my toes and these are definitely going to brighten up a pedi, that's for sure.
PS: You might want to consider using either pure acetone and/or the Foil Method for removal. Both shades are packed with glitter, so that means regular removal will be more difficult.
Do you already own some shades from the Milani Rockstar Heavy Glitters collection? Are you a glitter gal? Are you tempted by either of these colors? I'd love to hear from you!

I grabbed Blue Flash while perusing the clearance at CVS, and I love it! It's shimmery glittery awesomeness, and I really hope they become more readily available soon. I found mine waaaayy up in the top shelf behind a christmas display. I need the purple one!
ReplyDeleteLove these! When I first heard about them I started my epic quest to find them. It took me a few weeks of stalking a few CVS to find them, but when I did I grabbed them all up. Red Sparkle has quickly become one of my all-time favorite polishes.
ReplyDeleteI love how you compare them to glitter glue. I always go into craft stores and talk about how I wish they had polish that looked like some of the glitter glue there!
I just got Milani Jewel FX in Gold 2 weeks ago and I love it!! I love it layered over black polish. I also have this thing where I like to paint the back of my cell phone cover with glitter nail polishes, like all different kinds. This was my most recent addition to the phone and it rocks!
ReplyDeleteI'll apologize for not using the correct names . . . I got the red and dark silver ones at CVS, probably in December. I don't have CVS in my town, I have to hit it when I visit my family in the city (St. Louis). In fact, nowhere in my town sells Milani.
ReplyDeleteJust this weekend, I hit Kmart when I was in St. Louis and found all of the glitters in the regular Milani display. They were all $3.99! I recall them being around $5.00 at CVS. I got gems, the teal and the purple. They did have the gold but it doesn't suit my skin tone.
I'm going to redo my pedi (ample time to do so during this blizzard) and I will pick one to use!
p.s. I like to use a coat of Gelous over this followed by Seche Vite.
ReplyDeleteholy crap, those are sooo gorgeous! that red one is amazing! i def. need to go get it right away! thanks for sharing!

SO. PRETTY. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
ReplyDeleteLove these!!! The gold especially!!
ReplyDeleteWont be headed to CVS soon but will keep these in the back of my mind!!
I just wanted to say that there is also a Silver Jewels polish as well as the gold.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm way late in commenting but since I'm newer to your blog, I hope you'll forgive me revisiting an old post. I am in love with this Red Sparkle shade!!! I'm definitely adding this to my must have pedicure color list. I don't have any Milani brand polishes so if I can still find it, I'd love to have this one as my first. =)
