Note: With the exception of a few select Walmart locations, this product will not be available in stores until February 2011.
If you saw this post, then you know I've been extremely excited about this new dry shampoo from Suave. As mentioned above, this product does not release nationally until FEBRUARY, so unless you live near one of a handful of Walmarts that already have this on their shelves, don't drive yourselves crazy looking for this just yet. You'll have to wait a few weeks, but let me tell you, it's worth the wait.
As I've mentioned several times on this blog, I have a bit of an obsession with dry shampoos. You can click here to see all of my previous reviews of the various dry shampoos that are available in most drugstores. But when I heard that Suave released a dry shampoo, I was absolutely overjoyed because I knew the price would beat any and all dry shampoos currently on drugstore shelves.
And sure enough I was right!

I was fortunate enough to receive this product for review recently and, now that I've completed my testing, I'd love to share with you my detailed thoughts:
Suave Dry Shampoo Spray
(retail: around $2.69, 5 oz)
It's a bit tricky to photograph shiny aluminum cans (the glare!), but I did my best to capture the information on this bottle (enlarge the collage for a better view):
The only silver lining to come out of having a nasty cold this week is that I could really give this product a thorough testing since I haven't had the energy to wash my hair every day as usual.
In these before-and-after pics, I tested Suave Dry Shampoo on my hair after 24 hours without a washing:
As you can see, my bangs are an ugly, greasy mess in this "before" picture. Also, notice how dull and flat my hair looks as well. In the middle picture, I sprayed the product onto my hair following the directions on the bottle to a "T", using the heat from the palm of my hand to rub the product gently into my roots as directed. In the third pic, I used a fine-toothed comb to comb my side-swept bangs into place.
After looking at these photos, I think the first thing you'll noticed is that there is absolutely NO white or gray cast to my hair after using this product. Darker-haired gals and guys should be delighted to hear this!
The second thing I hope you notice is that not only does this product absorb the oils from my hair, but it also manages to impart a very lovely SHINE to my hair. I have yet to find another dry shampoo that actually manages to accomplish this!
As for the level of oil absorption (which you can never really capture in photos) I'd say that Suave Dry Shampoo is maybe just a half a step below Batiste, but certainly higher than all other drugstore brands I've used over the past few years. When I've only gone one day without washing my hair, I have found that Suave does the trick beautifully with only one application. But when I try to skip two days without a wash, I've noticed that I need to apply this product twice in order to fully elminate the "greasies". But the great thing is that this product doesn't get cakey for me or become white with multiple applications. It's as if you can just keep on spraying, and spraying, until you hit the level of absorption you desire.
And for all of you gals who utilize dry shampoos just to give your hair extra volume and texture (which I know so many of us need, especially after a washing when we want to do an up-do but our hair is too slick and hard to work with), I LOVE Suave Dry Shampoo for this purpose! I used it on my just-washed hair when I wanted to do a cute "messy bun" and my hair was SO much easier to work with, giving it a much needed boost in both texture and volume.
Finally, I want to talk to you about the fragrance of Suave Dry Shampoo. MY GOODNESS. If you love grapefruit, you are going to LOVE the fragrance of this product. My gal Paula was absolutely right when she said it reminded her of Bath & Body Works Pink Grapefruit body mist, but with a soft, powdery dry-down. This stuff smells good enough to eat (please don't!) and I LOVE the way the scent lingers in my hair. If you need a good hair refresher after a night on the town, I think you'll be very pleased with this product. The scent seems to linger on my hair all day, and I love getting little whiffs of it throughout the day.
FINAL VERDICT: Suave Dry Shampoo is an awesome addition to the world of drugstore dry shampoos. For the price, I think it delivers on all of its promises. I get no white cast on my hair when I use this, it absorbs the oils in my hair, it's easy to use, it smells insanely delicious and it also imparts added shine, volume and texture to my hair. The only critique I have is that, if you're planning to use it on severely oily hair, you may need to use multiple applications to reach the desired level of absorption. But thankfully, this product doesn't build up or get cakey for me even after two or three applications in one day. For around $2.69, this is an absolute steal and it's quickly becoming my dry shampoo of choice.
Do you already own Suave Dry Shampoo? If so, how do you like it? If not, are you thinking about picking some up in February? Please check back a little later this week because I've got the scoop on all of the other new Suave products set to hit store shelves next month. I promise you don't want to miss that!

I really need to start using dry shampoo. My roots get oily pretty quickly but my hair gets so dry and unmanageable if I wash it 7 days a week. I'll have to give this one a shot!
ReplyDeleteAlso, did you get a new camera or anything? Your pictures have just been getting better and better!
I found these on an endcap at my local Walmart. I grabbed 4 of them! It does wonders for my oily scalp. The scent is fantastic too, as I never liked any of the Batiste scents. I can't wait to try this out in the summer. I live in SoCal & my scalp gets super oily after only about 6 hours of a fresh hair wash. This may be my life saver in the summer!
ReplyDeleteOh & this is Anna. The email acct is under hubby's name.
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I found this the other day, but I wanted to wait for reviews before buying, since I already have 2 bottles of Batiste... But when I finish those, I'll definitely give Suave a whirl!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I use Batiste dry shampoo regularly and I'd love a cheaper alternative! Is the scent in any way off-putting? I generally don't like fragrance in my hair, haha. D:
ReplyDeleteI found this at my local Walmart last week! I am going to buy it after I finish the ones I have first!
ReplyDeleteHow many uses are you supposed to get out of this? I bought it at Walmart last week and I only got three uses before it was empty..
ReplyDeleteThis sounds UH-MAZING!
ReplyDeleteI found it this weekend (I knew to look for it, thanks to your previous post)...I LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteIt works great and smells delicious. At $2.79 at my local Wal-Mart (There was only one left!) it's a bargain.
I had been using Cake Sugar, but grew tired of the mess and odd smell of the product. This is much easier to use and much easier on my budget! Thank you SUAVE.
Don't know if anyone lives near a Meijer but they have them too! I picked one up but have yet to test it... The Tresemme one just wasn't cutting it with my dark hair (definitely left a greyish cast to my hair so my hair looked extremely dull) so I hope this one works. Being a mom I don't always get to shower during the day so it's nice to use when I don't get a chance to shower until the evening so my hair isn't bugging me all day!
ReplyDeleteI am going to grab one as soon as i find one at walmart or whereever! I love that it adds shine.
ReplyDeleteI saw this at my local Walmart last week! Thanks for reviewing! It sounds like a great deal!
ReplyDeleteJessi: How sweet of you to say that! I actually *didn't* get a new camera, but I've finally learned how to edit my pics a little better in terms of color and sharpness, which I guess is becoming more apparent! haha! Thanks SO much for noticing. :D
ReplyDeleteAnna: I'm in S. Cal too, so I totally understand what you mean. I hope this works for you--keep me posted? :)
clementine: I'd love to know what you think when you try this one!
Kim: Scent is so subjective, so I think you'll need to try this one personally to see if it's off-putting to you. In my opinion, it's not off-putting in the slightest, but then again I adore grapefruit. So it really depends on your own personal taste. Hope that helps!
Jess: Yay! Glad you found it. :)
Katie: I can't really tell you exactly how many uses you'll get, because each person is going to use a different amount each time, but the average can of this size usually lasts me about 4-6 months (but then again I don't use it every day--maybe once a week or once every few weeks). But one thing I know for sure is that it should NOT be empty after three uses, unless of course you used a REALLY large amount every time. Maybe your nozzle is just clogged? I'd try running it under warm water for a minute and see if that works!
beautifulmonday: :D
Jen: Yay!! I'm so glad to hear you love it too. :)
Kate: Oh please please let me know how it goes when you try it! I'd love to know if you experience the same colorless application that I experienced!
robin: I'd love to know what you think when you try it!
Zombii: You're so welcome. :)
Whaaaat?! Only $2.69? Amazing! Love your review, I can't wait for this to be available in Quebec! I LOVE dry shampoos =D
ReplyDeleteI did read your review of the Tresemme dry shampoo (which I've been using), but how do the two compare? Which one do you prefer?
ReplyDeleteGaby: I know, right? It's crazy how inexpensive this product is, especially considering how well it works for me! :D
ReplyDeleteallthatspink: OK, well if you read my TRESemme review, then you know that I didn't care for that product because it left an odd, almost greasy coating to my hair, and I really disliked the fragrance. So I would say the Suave Dry Shampoo is the exact polar opposite for me! It makes my hair feel much less oily, with no odd residue afterward. Also, I cannot express to you how much I LOVE the scent of the Suave product. I would wear it as perfume if I could. :) Hope that helps!
I have been recently trying out dry shampoos so when I saw your last post I wanted this...but I couldn't find it today at my Walmart...guess I have to wait till February.
ReplyDeleteOMG so excited for this!! Thanks for the head's up! I hardly ever go to Wal-Mart anymore, just Walgreens-- which makes me sad because I miss them having Physicians Formula =(
ReplyDeleteBTW Love the nail color you're wearing in the pic, haha!
This is so inexpensive! I am going to pick this up next time I pay a visit to a drugstore :)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to update you... it's amazing!!! Wow. I just threw the Tresemme one I had away. Lol. No dull looking hair, smells wonderful, doesn't leave a weird filmy feeling on my hair and I think adds some shine! Very pleased to say the least. :)
ReplyDeleteI have never used dry shampoo but my hair does get very oily sometimes even by the end of the day (same day that I washed it) so I have been wanting to try something like this. However, since I really don't like putting products in my hair because it just weights it down so much, I want to give this a shot, but first I want to know if the effect of this lasts throughout the day or just a couple hours?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Dont use dry shampoo in the morning. Use it before bed.
DeleteBought some of this today to go with my $15 Revlon straightener from Walgreens. I'm pretty excited about both (the straightener is actually quite good)--thanks for keeping me informed.
ReplyDeleteI was in Wallmart today, and they only had one bottle of this. Of course I grabbed it (even though I have Tresemme left). Haven't used it in my hair yet, but I LOVE the smell!
ReplyDeleteI picked this up at the local Wal-Mart right around Christmas and have been using it since then. I live in Scotland (and have used and loved Batiste) but I forgot to bring it with me when I came to visit my parents. Picked this up and bam, I have a new love. My hair gets greasy and it extends my washing by a good couple of days. And you're right -- no odd white powder, soaks right in with a little rubbing, and gives me a sweet oomph of volume to boot.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, the best part for me? I spray a bit on my roots right after shampooing JUST for the sweet little oomph of volume. Love it. Best couple of bucks I've spent in a while, and I'm totally taking it back with me across the pond.
This is the best dry shampoo I have ever tried as well as being the most economic friendly! I'm so glad I found your blog a month ago, otherwise I wouldn't have found out about this product.
ReplyDeleteI've tried expensive brands such as Rene Fuerter, Klorane, and Bumble and Bumble. Rene was ok, Klorane made my dark brown Asian hair look like it had dandruff, and Bumble was so dark it stained my hands.
I also tried the Salon Grafix Invisble dry shampoo and the Tresemme Fresh Start dry shampoo. The former made my hair look greasy. The latter made my hair wet, icky, and gave it a gray colored cast like you experienced.
Thanks for review on Suave. I can go nearly four days between washouts all for $2.79. Love it!
I just found this blog and I have to say it's nice to see a sister drugstore makeup fan out here sharing the deals!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reviewing the Sauve dry shampoo. I have wanted to try it on my oily no matter how often I shampoo hair but was hesitant. Now I can't wait to try! I am already a suave shampoo and conditioner convert. I am a big fan of Aveda products but seriously who with a family and a budget can afford that stuff? Now I use the suave almond and shea butter shampoo and conditioner and it works every bit as good for under $3!! Its like haircare heaven.
Again, thank you for this money saving blog. I love cheap stuff thats just as good or better than the expensive stuff!
When I tried applying it, at first the only thing that came out was clear liquid which absorbed nothing and then i shook it a ton and a bunch of the white clay came out and no matter how much I brushed it, my hair looked grey and dull...maybe I just applied too much of it? Idk:/ but it smells AMAZING and it seems to work so far:] But I also feel gypped because I bought mine at Fred Meyers and it cost me 4 bucks:/
ReplyDeleteThis product sounds great. Does it work well for very dark hair though? I have heard that some dry shampoos leave a gray look to the roots.
ReplyDeleteI tried Suave dry shampoo on a whim. I have very oily and very thin hair. I wouldn't be without it.. In the summer I would wash my hair twice a day. Now I can go two or three days between washings and my hair looks better each passing day. I use it for volume right after shampooing. I love this stuff. It is by far the best product I have ever found. For me it has really changed me life.. I really can't express what a great product this has been for me and at less than three dollars. What a bargain.. Love it.
ReplyDeleteSInce you wrote this review back in January, I've been a Suave Dry Shampoo user!! I've tried several other drugstore brands and this one is by far my favorite! I work out every morning, so I actually rarely use it as a dry shampoo much, but as a texturizer and oil control product throughout the day, Suave can't be beat!!
ReplyDeleteSuave Dry Shampoo is most certainly NOT odorless. I followed directions to the letter, and two days after using it, my hair still has a faint but perceptible chemical smell to it. Others don't notice it but I do and I hate it. My wife notices it if she puts her nose to my hair. Smells like good old fashioned hairspray, a sweetish smell that's cloying and annoying.
