You may have seen Vixen's Mittens in this display:

My lovely reader Meagan spotted the above display a while back, but the Vixen's Mittens polishes are also available in THIS display:

Now the above display (provided by the lovely Kimberly) is what I personally found at my local Walgreens and, as you can see, the Vixen's Mittens polishes in THIS display come with a free top coat, which is not available in the counter display.
Either way, this is a very fun, very glittery collection of minis and you can see some great close-ups of each color on Meagan's blog here. I love how all the colors are named after Santa's reindeer!
So when I saw this collection, I was immediately drawn to Blitzen, because I just don't own another color that's even similar to it. I had to buy it!
Wet n Wild Blitzen and Top Coat 2-pack
(retail: $1.99, 0.22 oz each)
Here's a shot of the minis next to a full-size MegaLast polish, for reference
To me, this is just an amazing and truly unique shade. I've never seen anything quite like it at the drugstore. My best description of the base color would be "pink champagne". In certain lights, it looks more champagne while in other lights the pink comes out more.
Also, there's a lot of gold micro-glitter in this polish, which makes the champagne hue even more predominant when the light hits it just so.
I also want to mention that the bigger pieces of red glitter look round to my naked eye, but looking at the images above, I swear I see some star-shaped glitter in there, and maybe even bell-shaped glitter!
Blitzen was impossible to photograph on the nail. The red glitter looks black in a lot of these photos, but when the light hits this polish, the red sparkles in a very subtle, yet pretty way.
Some swatches (all images were after three coats followed by a coat of the accompanying top coat):
In these last two photos above, which were taken without flash in florescent lighting, you can kind of see how the effect of Blitzen is sort of like a glaze on the nail. It's a delicate shade, and so beautiful in real life, that I'm afraid these pics might scare you away from its real beauty.
I think that if you're not a glitter person, this would be the polish if you wanted a subtle, barely-there glitter that it is no way garish or attention-grabbing. It's festive, but in an understated way. I also think this would be a BEAUTIFUL color for young girls because it's almost got a princess-like quality to it.
And finally, I tried layering it over a white creme polish to see if the pink would stand out more:
It's impossible to see in this photo but in real life, it did give the white polish a very subtle light pink hue, which reminds me of when a candy cane is dipped in whipped cream and it make the whipped cream turn light pink.
LOVE this color, and I highly recommend it whether you're a glitter gal or not!
Do you own any shades from the Vixen's Mittens collection? If so, what colors did you get?
I wish I could find the WnW holiday stuff here in Canada! I tried again today but still nothing :( This polish looks great! Very unique!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Blitzen is hard to pin down, verbally and photographically. But, it is so worth getting. I think giving it a champagne reference is quite fitting. Blitzed, champagne...get it?
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love glitter polish. This polish looks sooo cute! I must have it. :)
ReplyDeleteI swear I am going to unfollow you on twitter! Everytime I see a new blog post and read it I feel like I need to go to the store lol. Now I feel like Blitzen needs to be a part of my polish collection :)
ReplyDeleteIt kind of reminds me of peppermint bark!
ReplyDeleteI had already bought Blitzen and your post got me to thinking, so I layered a thickish coat over NYC Wing It Wine. The gold in the NYC duochrome and the gold micro-glitter are gorgeous together! And the darker glitter - it looks more fuchsia than red to me - just adds an extra spark of interest.
ReplyDeleteI bought Blitzen and Cupid when W&W was 50% off at Walgreens recently. Your description of Blitzen is spot on, G! It makes an awesome topcoat, too. I was playing with it last night and it looks really good over SH Sequin Scandel. Cupid is a subtle use of bar glitter; it's very pretty and unique, too.
ReplyDeleteI think this is so pretty! Unfortunately, I have yet to see these nail polishes, so hopefully they will start to pop up here in the near future! Pretty pretty!
ReplyDeleteI live in Michigan, Farmington Hills area and I have looked all over for the Pixie palettes. Anyone stay in that area spotted them?
ReplyDeleteI think I need this!! So pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI got Donner, Rudolph, Blitzen, Dasher, Comet, Cupid and Prancer. I love them. I did put Prancer in a larger bottle so it would be easier for me to use.
ReplyDeleteToday, in fact, I bought Blitzen & Rudolph. I also found the elusive pixie palettes and bought 3 of the 4 - I'm not much on the brown spectrum. :) I've been searching frenetically for any/all of these products and am so psyched to have come across a full display. Lucky me! I'm also intrigued re: the different shapes in the Blitzen glitter. Very exciting. Thanks again for posting and I'm pleased we share the same tastes again and again!
ReplyDeleteWhich Walgreens do you go to, G? I just moved to Carlsbad in August, and I finally made a trip to the one in Encinitas and I have to say their cosmetics area was the saddest I've seen in a long time. I went looking for the EOS gift set and also the Wet 'n Wild stuff and they didn't have ANY of it. And I walked around the whole store and looked at every endcap! What's sad is the building is obviously new because I looked on Google Maps for the closest one and street view shows it isn't even built yet! They had a separate cosmetics register too and they had signs up saying to buy all make-up there, which makes me think they have a theft problem.
ReplyDeleteI have to pick up my husband from the airport on Saturday and I already planned to make a trip to the Borders down that way since they're closing the one in town (sigh ...) so if you have the time, let me know which stores are worth checking out! I never thought I'd miss Meijer and their prevalence of Wet 'n Wild stuff.
I really wish that it was so easy to find WnW holiday sets here. Those polishes look lovely!
ReplyDeleteDude! 2 drugstores I went today didn't have any displays out of any brands because they were doing remodels. When they are finished tearing those stores head-over-heels, I'm hoping they plan on making it up to us Beauty Junkies with all these new displays because I almost flipped! heh heh
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful shade but sort of reminds me of chicken pox on skin ;x
ReplyDeleteI purchased Dancer, Prancer & Blitzen
ReplyDeleteI got nuthin' because my Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid don't have any of these WnW holiday stuff. So disappointed. Where are they???
ReplyDeleteto all of you in canada, i'm in ontario and just found them today at one of the loblaws superstores. and i have found some other wet n wild limited edition collections at zellers too. hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteI FOUND THEM!!! AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaa
ReplyDeleteOMG! I spent a ton of money today. My husband is gonna kill me when he sees the credit card bill. Thank goodness that won't be until next month. lol I got the last three ColorIcon palettes they had: Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Sprite, and Night Elf. Which one am I missing? There were 4, right? I also got Rudolph, but none of the others. They just didn't interest me all that much, and I already know I will hate dealing with the little brush.
Where I really went nuts was at Ocean State Job Lot, it's a New England store that's a lot like Big Lots.
