This week's question is a two-part question, and I'm very curious to see your answers!
How often do you use a face primer, and which brand is your favorite?
Even though I love the look of my makeup after I use a face primer, I seem to forget to use one (or I'm just plain lazy). I would say I use face primer about 3-4 times a month. And my favorite brand of all time is the Black Radiance face primer, which I reviewed a while back. So how about you? Do you use face primer? If so, how often, and what brand do you use?
I use a face primer every single day. I never, ever skip! It helps my dry skin also though. My favorite consistently for the past year has been the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind primer. Love it! It's the Smashbox Photofinish primer type of gel primer. It helps any areas on my face that are still a little dry after moisturizing. Smooths everything out nicely so my makeup goes on evenly. Love it and it's only about $7! Plus it literally lasts forever!
ReplyDeletei use it maybe 3 or 4 times per week. my current favorite is hard candy's face primer, although i'm on the lookout for others that are not astronomically priced. i must be the only person on earth who really was not impressed with smashbox!
ReplyDeleteI use a face primer everytime I use foundation. I'm currently using Monistat Anti Chaffing Gel as a primer. I read about it on several blogs last year and fell in love when I tried it. I bought a tube over a year ago and i'm still using it, a little goes a long way.
ReplyDeleteI only use facial primer a couple times a month if my skin is especially patchy or rough. I haven't found a primer that helps with mineral foundation yet, so that's probably the biggest reason I don't use.
ReplyDeleteI don't use it that often because I am always in a rush. I only have one primer, and that is Monistat anti-chafing gel.
ReplyDeleteIt feels a little weird; It's gel and feels like it should be greasy but isn't. It does a fantastic job with makeup though...it turns a very sheer, blah foundation into one with very good coverage that lasts forever.
Plus it helps with the peeling I get from the topical prescription acne meds I use.
Not only that but you get quite a bit more in the tube than other primers, since it's not meant for the face, and for a much cheaper price, too. Combine with a coupon and it's awesome.
I rarely ever use a face primer since I wear foundation just as rarely. The one I have is Rimmel Fix & Perfect, it's alright, nothing short of a miracle but works for me.
ReplyDeleteI use a face primer every time I do my makeup. At the moment I'm using Cargo's activating primer but my favourite is the super expensive MUFE HD in blue tint. Unfortunetly it has too much silicone in it and it broke me out. I really think primer does a lot for me!
ReplyDeleteOMG. I'm really excited that you asked this question! I've been wanting to use a primer for a long time now but all I ever hear about is Smashbox and that isn't in my budget. I'm totally going to try the Monistat gel! Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI like the Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base primer by L'Oreal. On my dry skin it does a good job of hiding my huge pores. I think the consistency of the primer has a lot to do with it; it's a bit thicker, and slightly more paste-like, than other primers I've tried.
ReplyDeleteEvery day! I use L'Oreal Magic Perfecting Base with either Monsitat Anit Chafing Gel, Black Radiance primer, Rimmel or L'Oreal Anti Dull skin primer...as you can see I have way to many products!
ReplyDeleteI use primer whenever I want to look special..I.e. no oiliness and no pores, usually 2 or 3 times a month. Currently I use the rimmel primer and it does the trick.
ReplyDeleteI use Avon MagiX Primer on those extra long school days. I love how my skin feels after application and foundation goes on smoother. It's also pretty cheap off eBay!
ReplyDeleteI have SmashBox Primer and fell in love with primer from that product. Then I started branching out. I have an Avon Anew primer, which is just OK. Actually, they call it an Optimizer.
ReplyDeleteI got to do an in-home product test for a primer and wouldn't you know it; I love it best of all! But, I don't know who makes it or what it is!!!
When I read about Jacie using the Chafing gel, I have got to try that!
And with that, I don't use primers every time. I start, use them for a while, then fall off.
I rarely use foundation, and I don't feel like primer alone makes my face look much better, certainly not enough for me to feel fine with putting another layer of stuff on my clog-prone skin, so I don't use it often. Occasionally I put it under my undereye concealer but I don't think it really helps it last or stay out of fine lines.
ReplyDeleteI never use a primer -- I wish I could! I haven't found one that doesn't break me out.
ReplyDeleteLast winter I used the Rimmel one under my under-eye concealer, because it got too thick and cakey. It helped a lot. But now I'm using Cover Girl's tinted moisturizer under my concealer and it looks great! It keeps it from drying out and helps it go on much smoother.
ReplyDeleteI have oily skin, and I found the silicone primers just made it oilier. The best primer I have found is Japanese sunscreen. I used to use the Shiseido 55 lotion until they change the formula. This summer I switched to Sofina Lucent. Both are very mattifying and offer sunscreen to boot.
ReplyDeleteIn the winter I'm finding my skin is less oily every year (correlating with getting older every year) and I find I don't need a face primer. (Always need an eyeshadow primer, though.)
I've tried so many primers including L'oreal and Smashbox and none of them ever helped my foundation last longer. I always thought primer was like a placebo product..you know, something people continue to believe in and use even though it doesn't actually do anything lol. But I found this ModelCo Face Base at TJ Maxx which was at a good price and I was so surprised that it worked. Not excellent, but it was good. Definitely helped my foundation last a little longer and my skin looked smoother.
ReplyDeleteI wear primer almost everytime I put makeup on! :) It makes my skin smooth and it helps my foundation go on easier and last longer! :)
ReplyDeleteI use Elf Mineral Infused Face Primer! :)

I have a few I like:
ReplyDelete1. Fyrinnae Velvet-Gel Silica Primer
2. Camellia Rose V2.0 skin smoothing primer
3. mark Primed for Perfection Face Primer
The texture on the 3 of those is fantastic.
I'm test driving another primer right now, which might end up my favorite, L’Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base.
I don't use a primer, just a moisturizer with dimethicone in it should work similarly. I did hear that Phillips Milk of Magnesia works as a primer and mattifier and used that in the summer to keep the oilies at bay, it really does work, but you have to spread it very thinly or you get a white cast to your face. If that happens, just rewet and spread it out some more.
ReplyDeleteI actually don't use any right now, even though I feel like I should. I think I'm afraid of having too many layers on my skin: eye cream, moisturizer with SPF, then primer, then foundation, and powder. It seems like a lot!
ReplyDeleteHowever, I did buy the Monistat Anti Chaffing Gel that everyone has been talking about. I've had it for about a week and I'm kind of afraid to use it for whatever reason.
