Forever 21 makeup: Yay or Nay?

Ladies! Is the new Forever 21 makeup collection, "love & beauty", making you say "Oooh!" or "meh"?

  1. I'm sort of scared... Actually I'm really scared. In my mind, Forever 21 is a CLOTHING store. Clothings = lots of dust/dropped on floor/tried on by possible thousands = L-O-T-S of germs. (I sound a little germaphobic don't I? >,<)

Another thing, in the store, the make ups are mixed up together in a large glass bowl. Sure the glass bowl makes it look fancier, but it doesn't change the fact they are dumped together. To me, it's just not that appealing.

Just my 2 cent. Of course if someone says the pay off is great then I'm willing to try it out!

  2. This looks like cheap junk. There, I said it. =X I really HOPE it's not, but I am not drawn to it at all. Except if that purple thing is a lipgloss. I'm ALL over any purple lipgloss.

Basically, we go to F21 for cheapo trendy clothes & accessories. It's like, who cares if it falls apart in 2 washes (and it often does) because it was $5.

....sooo I'm going to buy makeup from them? what? I just don't expect it to be any good. I would be delighted if it WERE good, but my expectations are low.

And why "love & beauty". Really? :\ I might just be a sour puss but I'm not feelin it.

  4. looks plain and run-of-the-mill to me. probably not THE best ad or ad campaign.

  5. "Meh" for me...the colors look unoriginal. No thanks, I have enough blue and grey shadows. I don't want to say anything against the pigmentation or formula, because I don't know it yet, but I'm assuming it won't be great. Honestly, I probably won't even try it x.x

  6. Black, blue and pruple are the only colors available? No thanks then. I can get better stuff elsewhere. Also, I'm not a big F21 girl - but I do love their jewelery though!

  7. Every makeup line from these stores is manufactured by the same company, it all looks so similar between brands. Next!

  8. I picked up a lip gloss from F21 a while ago and was less that impressed with it. However, it wasn't part of this line, so I probably check it out.

  9. I am loving these responses! They are filled with such emotion! lol!! It seems like those of you who don't like the idea REALLY don't like the idea, and I've got to say that you have presented some very good reasons for not liking what you see so far. lol! I can't get the image of cheap-looking makeup with zero pigmentation floating around in dusty fishbowls out of my head! LOL!

Personally, I think I might have been expecting a little bit more out of F21. If you're a big chain like this, you have the money to do it right, and at least come up with a better name...maybe? But then again, I want to be fair and actually wait and see what the reviews are like. I might not be running to F21 on the day this line releases, but I will read the reviews and if anything stands out, you can be sure I'll pick it up and post my own review.

And for those of you who are excited about this new line, I'd love to hear what you're excited for the most. Is it the lip products, eyeshadows, or just the colors in general? I can definitely understand being excited about the idea of buying some inexpensive, fun makeup while you're clothes-shopping. To be able to have some makeup AND cute clothes all in the same retail location is always a plus. :)

Thanks everyone--I knew I could count on you for honest opinions. xo

  10. Forever 21 cosmetics are what our moms used to buy for us when we were children, but with better packaging. The lip glosses are sticky and smell a tad foul. The nail polishes bubble up when you apply them.

Definitely not worth the purchase. Of course if you can find LA Girl ones, then you can make that exception.

  11. This collection got my attention because usually when I something inexpensive I'm not expecting very much but then I get pleasantly surprised.

  12. Shela: So do you think that this new collection (which isn't yet in stores) is going to probably be exactly like the stuff you've tried? I am not too optimistic at this point after all the feedback I rec'd on this post, BUT, you never know! Maybe they really are trying to make an effort to step up their game and make a line with quality products. Maybe? lol! xo

princess azure: That happens to me all the time too! Every time I write something off and don't even bother with it, a few weeks later I start seeing all these amazing reviews! Goes to show you never can tell a book by its cover. :) xo

  13. True, it's been a few years since I last bought XXI makeup but I mean, they couldn't even think of a better name for this line so I'm not too hopeful. I'll give them a chance though :)

  14. Yeah, I figure, what's the worst that can happen? It's either exactly what we're expecting, or we'll be very pleasantly surprised! :)

  15. Yeah, I agree. There's really not much to lose. It doesn't hurt to try ;)

But if I'm short on money, I'd go for Hard Candy instead. I'm obsessed with their liners-- I have 3! The glittery ones are a letdown though.

R, will you ever have a Facebook page?

  16. I'm just kinda "ehh" about it myself! I think they are banking on these selling as impulse items in their stores, it's just another private label thing. Without trying anything, I can't vouch for their quality or colors... but as a consumer I'm definitely not compelled to do so. ;)

  17. i shop at f21 all the time because my job is right across the street. i think that the stuff will sell mostly because it's convenient. as you're in line, there's stuff next to you, so why not try it? i made assumptions about it before too, but i though i'd try it since it was relatively cheap.

i like the lip gloss they had. it was kinda sticky, but it didn't have a bad smell, and it was a nice sheer color. and today i got one of their eyeshadow things, which was in greens and blues. i only bought it for convenience, because i wanted to do my makeup green for a xmas party tmr. it's kind of dull and not very pigmented dry, but if you use it wet it's very pigmented and works great.

i also bought some of their false eyelashes because they were on sale for only a dollar (from 1.80). they had a bunch of glitter on them, which was kinda tacky. and instead of giving you lash glue, it's supposed to have adhesive already on the lashes. but they didn't stick to my lash line at all! useless. i'm just going to wash the glitter off and use other lash glue and see if i can still make them work. :/

  18. Hi Anon! I can totally see how these could be impulse-buys when you're at the register. Good to know that the lipglosses aren't too bad. I had a feeling the eyeshadows wouldn't be too pigmented--sorry about that. And those eyelashes seem sort of like a nightmare to apply. Huge bummer, but thank you so much for the info! xo :)

  19. I did hear that the oil blotting sheets worked well. and they are pretty cheap compared to clean and clear or CVS brand ones. although they are still a bit more expensive than the elf ones.

They look really good, and they are so cheap but i can tell that they're not going to be the best. if you go onto forever21.com they actually have crumbled eyeshadows and swatches. definitely check the website out before buying it.

the creativity is really outstanding though. :)

  20. I have a palette from them and it is amazing! The pigmentation is way better than my other high end eyeshadows. In fact, the texture is the same as my Stila shadows- but wayyyy less fallout.

  21. Tried one palette not too long ago; the one that Diva Makeup Queen reviewed: . This stuff is HORRIBLE. Pigmented, sure, but powdery with uneven coverage and not very true to color. All the colors become either too dull or transparent, too light, or too dark so that on your face, it simply looks like a dark/light grayscale. If you're looking for anything other than what appear to be black or white eyeshadows on your face (which are so powdery anyways that they just create a big, unicolored mess when you try to blend them), don't even try it. Not to mention the smell ... Ugh. It reeks of a sharp metal smell when you open it, likely due to the low-grade ingredients they use. You may be tempted to do this because these products are so cheap, but don't even let your teens and preteens come near this stuff, it smells so sketchy. Stick to the cheap but definitely harmless clothes and accessories in a store like F21. :)

  23. I'm not a huge fan of cheap makeup, but I had been looking for a new lipstick for a while. At 1.98, I didn't have much to lose and the color seemed spot on. I wasn't expecting to, but I fell in love with it. The lipstick I purchased is by far, my new favorite. Its very smooth, hydrating and stays on literally all day. I have yet to find that kind of lasting power elsewhere.

  24. Tried about 2 different products that I love and hate. I love the trio eyeshadows! they're nice and pigmented and not chalky. I bought a tiny palette of colorful shimmery eyeshadows but was really disappointed because only the top layer was shimmery. Underneath was chalky ugly eyeshadows...

  25. I just went to F21 yesterday and ended up buying the Love and Beauty "gold" perfume at the register as an impulse buy because it smells absolutely delicious. I'm a loyal Chanel No. 5 girl by nature, so needless to say I was definitely won over by this $12 find! Regarding the makeup, I heard from the staff that their new makeup line is being manufactured by SEPHORA, meaning they use the same manufacturing company that the Sephora brand owns and uses it to create their F21 makeup. The information apparently came straight from corporate for training the staff about its release.

If this is true, maybe our own perception of F21's cheap clothes have tainted our outlook on giving their new shadows a shot!
