Are you a sucker for candy and drink-inspired lip balms?

Lip balms that are based on popular candies and drinks have been around for decades now, and they never cease to amaze me. The idea of getting the flavor of your favorite sweet treat, but without the calories or carbs, is just plain fun (and super inexpensive as well).

I don't think that anyone can argue that Bonne Bell Lip Smackers are the go-to for candy/drink flavored lip balms. At around a dollar a tube, how can you resist a lip treat that smells and tastes like Dr. Pepper, Skittles, M&Ms, Starburst or Kool-Aid?

In fact, I was at Rite-Aid the other day and spotted this new collection from Bonne Bell, which seems a little more adult-oriented but just as fun:

Vitamin Water lip balms in Fruit Punch, Dragon Fruit and Lemonade.

I've got to say that I was mesmerized by the fact that each of these balms is the exact color of the actual drink! And also, these balms have SPF 20 and contain vitamin E. If Bonne Bell is trying to appeal to adults with this new line, it's definitely working for me.

And let's not forget that there are other companies who have licensed their brands to lip balm manufacturers lately. The makers of Cinnabon have their own lip balm:

And from the makers of Bubble Yum bubble gum:

And who can forget Dairy Queen:

On the higher-end of the scale, there is the company On10, which offers fun, retro-looking tins of vintage sweets-inspired balms:

There are also some hard-to-find sweets-inspired balms, such as the Ben & Jerry's lip balm, which is nearly impossible to find in the US anymore:

And of course you don't even have to be a sweets manufacturer to get into the lip balm game anymore. You can make a product that just smells good!

And I can attest to the fact that the Yankee Candle lip balm is one fantastic lip balm, even though it's based on a product that is not even edible.

So....what's your favorite sweet-inspired lip balm? I know that I'm not the only one here who's got a mild obsession with these little goodies!

  1. Dr. Pepper lip balm is one of my faves! I have to say tho that the Cinnabon lip balm tastes disgusting. I can't even bring myself to use it. It smells and tastes foul..nothing like cinnamon buns.

  4. I love food/candy flavored balms. I find that they're often more flavorful than my normal lipsmackers. I also find that non-lipsmacker brand ones are generally more... tacky? thick? than lipsmackers and will last me longer.

I'm also fairly excited to hear about the vitamin E in these. One of the products I'm working on using up right now is a Bonne Bell lipburst (do they make those anymore? I don't know.) that contains vitamin E and aloe. When my lips first broke out from not knowing I'm allergic to something in brush on glazes/glosses, they were the only thing that I could find that comforted me. There's just something incredibly soothing about vitamin E in your gloss.

I've used a lot of the candy glosses over the years. I've owned the entire skittles collection (x2!), the Kool Aid collection (boyfriend stole the Fruit punch one that day!), the coca cola collection, Poptarts brown sugar cinnamon, the different bubble gum variations (dubble bubble, bubble yum), junior mints, about half of the starburst collection, cinnabon, reese's, fruit loops, and whatever those coconut chocolate cake things are. I'm sure I'm forgetting many -- I had a ton when they first came out.

  5. I own one of those vitamin Water balms! I can't believe (well, I guess I can) that they're selling these now. I got mine from posing with a cardboard cutout at a charity walk 2 years ago. I got dragon fruit; mine was a bit dry and smelly (but the actual drink is too) but I still have it!

I really loved lipsmackers when I was a kid. I am obsessed with my MAC lip conditioner not only because it applies smoothly, but it also smells kinda like candy :)

  6. My fav is Smackers M&M, it doesn't smell like pure chocolate, but like fresh truffles (yum!). The good thing about is that is not only tasty, but it also leaves a cute chocolatey gloss in my lips, so i don't need any color (lipstick or gloss) when i wear it.

  9. i loved the skittles-collection of lipsmackers- too bad they don't sell them anymore where I live and I can kick myself for not buying them when I was in canada about 3 or 4 years ago- the big party pack with every smacker they've had in the skittles collection... well, now i've bought the coke-collection and didn't even opened it, because i didn't "finished" the other ones i bought :D

  10. How exciting - this is why I love going to America, stocking up on goodies like this! In the 99 Cent store last year I got so many lipbalms - Mountain Dew, Diet Cherry Pepsi (the 'diet' bit baffles me a bit?!), Dr Pepper etc!

  12. Trisha: You know, I've heard that about the Cinnabon. What a bummer! I've never tried the Cinnabon lip balm and now I'm not sure I want to. lol. :)

sssdawna: lol! At this point, do *any* of us need more lip balm? Probably not, but I have feeling that won't stop us! :)

Hil'Lesha: OMG, I have to say that you if you have a Yankee Candle store near you, you have got to check out their balms. They are awesome and incredibly moisturizing (plus they smell and taste delicious). :)

Papaya Bunny: So you basically hate candy-flavored balms then. LOL!!! OMG, I have to make a mental note that if I ever need advice about a sweet-flavored lip balm, you are the authority! That is awesome! I'm totally jealous of your stash. xo

Shela: That is a crazy story about the Vitamin Water balms! I wonder what took them so long to start mass-0producing these? I'm kind of bummed that you said they were dry--I was hoping they'd be super moisturizing. xo

Elena: You have completely sold me on the M&M lip balm. OMG, fresh truffles??? YUM! I need to get one NOW. lol! :)

kenzie: Are you serious??? You cannot get these anywhere online (except for the occasional ebay auction but they're so expensive). Please, if you get one of these, you have to let me know what they're like!! :)

princess azure: I haven't tried the Bubble Yum balms yet but I love anything bubble gum flavored or scented so I think I need to pick one up asap. And you know what? I WISH my next giveaway was for lip balms (but it's not). But hey, I think I'll start working on one for the future--that's a great idea! Thanks honey! xo

amusedPolish: I'm sorry these aren't available in area. That's a bummer because especially now, for the holiday season, you can walk into any drugstore here and see those mega-packs of every sweet Bonne Bell lip balm they make. :( I'd love to know what you think if of that Coke collection when you try it. :)

Becky--you're absolutely right! Our 99 cent stores are THE place to get sweet-flavored balms! The selection is almost overwhelming. lol! :)

femputer: OMG, balm p0rn! LOL!!! Oh, and the Dr. Pepper Lipsmackers is one of my FAVES! I even wrote a blog post a long time ago about how this balm it the cheapest way to get a YLBB look. I loooove the color it deposits on the lips and the smell and taste are so yummy. Great minds.... :)
