It's not too late: The Wednesday Question
Since it's technically still Wednesday here on the West Coast (it's 11:14PM as I write this) I still have time to post The Wednesday Question (sorry for the delay!):
What mascara are you currently using and how does it rate on a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being awful, 10 being holy grail status)?
I've been pretty happy with Prestige My Biggest Lashes but I've been bopping around and trying other brands lately. Are you faithful to one mascara or are you currently testing out something new? I'd love to hear what's working for you, or what's not working for you--and why.

ReplyDeleteGreat question! I'm still looking for my ultimate mascara. I have very long, dark lashes, but I'm always looking for something to plump them up. The closest I've gotten is with L'Oreal Voluminous (not the waterproof) and L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen (waterproof, which I got at WalMart for $5). However, they still make my eyelashes look slightly spidery. I'm going to be trying a bunch more in the coming weeks as I'm looking for *the* mascara to wear on my wedding day. If any of you have ideas (not Lash Blast, I had an allergic reaction), please let me know!
ReplyDeleteI have always used L'Oreal Voluminous waterproof. Tried the non-waterproof version for a week but it always left a big mess under my eyes by the time I get to the afternoon. Next try would be Rimmel Sexy Curves, as I'm curious about it
ReplyDeleteCurrently: Maybelline Lash Stiletto (I'd give it 7.5), L'Oreal Voluminous (7, a but clumpy but very volumizing), and L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes (an 8 for techiness, waterproof/weather-proofness, and more natural look). I miss my Lash Blast a lot! I didn't expect to like it so much but it's a 9 for me.
ReplyDeleteWill pick some up when any of the above runs out/dries up. I've been hearing good things about Maybelline XXL Xtreme Curl (I think that's the name) and of course Prestige My Biggest Lashes (which I have not yet found anywhere to try!)
Maybelline Lash Discovery. I wore it to a wedding in June. It was just outside DC--extremely hot and humid--and then I got rained on! This stuff (even in the regular formula), did not run or flake at all. It makes my Asian lashes look SO full and long. The best part, this formula keeps my lashes curled ALL day (after using a lash curler, of course).
ReplyDeleteLate to the party, but I've been sick. Forgive me?
ReplyDeleteRecently I'd been using Cover Girl's Fantastic Lash. My sister recommended it to me. I like it, but it got very thick and clumpy in the tube VERY quickly.
I am also using the Cover Girl waterproof Eye Lights - but only if I'm heading to the pool. I don't love this. I don't see any sparkly woo-hoo-ness that makes my eyes stand out.
The last time I went to the mall and picked up some Bare Minerals, they gave me a sample of their soon-to-be-released mascara. This one I probably like the best out of the three. My eye lashes look longer (not necessarily plumper, though), the brush is small and precise enough that I can reach most of my lashes without ending up with mascara all over my skin. I don't know if this has been released yet, though. They didn't tell me the date when they gave me the sample (maybe 2 months ago).
Hee, another topic I could probably spout off on for a good hour or so. I'll try to restrain myself this time!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest gripes about mascara tends to fall into 2 categories: 1) Waterproof is great for staying power, and it doesn't smudge, but it tends to flake and it's a complete bee-yotch to get off. 2) Non-waterproof is easy to get off but tends to run off underneath my eyes, giving me that lovely racoon look. Needless to say I'm not happy in either state, but it's kind of like pick your poison, eh?
Right now my HG is Cover Girl Super Thick Lash. It is not waterproof, and comes off easily, but it's kind of a drier formula and it doesn't smear as much on me. As I recall the brown-black color didn't smear at all, but I'm wearing very black now and it does smear a little bit, but nothing that can't be wiped away. Other mascaras I've tried smear a lot on me, STL seems to smear the least. The con to it is that it can clump a little, and the tube seems to dry out faster than any other mascara I've used. The pro that almost cancels out the con is it's cheap as hell.
*sigh* I think mascara is just one of those things I'll never be satisfied with. I'm always on the search for something better. If you find that perfect mascara, do let me know, will you?
I've got My Biggest Lashes in my drawer, unopened, waiting for me to try it. :-D In fact...I'm embarrassed to say that I've got a total of 5 unopened mascaras in my drawer to try when I finish my STL. Mascara is so nerve-wracking for me, especially trying new ones. But it's one of those things that I have to wear, or my eyes disappear in my face, I swear.
Hope I didn't talk too much. LOL!
I just got the new Lash Blast Length and I like that for daytime-not enough umph for nightlife though. On the weekends or when I go out, I like Lancome Hypnose Drama ( I know, it's not very pocket friendly, but it works!!). I'd rate both of them about a 9-this is of course, when I use them over a primer or Ardell Lash Accelorator. (I think I spelled that wrong.)
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm using Rimmel Glam Lash, the original one in the black and pink tube. On a scale of 1-10 it's about a 7. It's almost on par with L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black, but nowhere near Chanel Exceptionnel.
ReplyDeleteFor me, L'Oreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes are AMAZING. I'm a terrible eyemakeup wearer; my eyes water, I have a tendency to rub, and things just smudge like mad because of how oily my skin is. For the longest time, I'd only use waterproof mascara because it wouldn't smudge everywhere, but good golly it was hard to get off.
ReplyDeleteThen I heard about tube mascaras and picked up the Beauty Tubes. My eyelashes are thick, but short and straight, and it does a fabulous job of keeping them curled and lengthened. If I want drama, I use the white primer, but more often then not I'd just use the mascara end alone. And then to get it off? While I wash my face I just give a few gentle rubs to my eyelashes, and poof! They come right off. And during the day there's NO smudging or smearing.
Overall I'd give it an 9/10. I'm not a huge fan of the formula or the brush, but since it's so fab it's the only mascara I'll ever buy from now on. :) (speaking of which -- my tube is all dried out! it's time for another one)
Wow, ladies, thank you so much for the fantastic information! This gives me some new products to try, which is fabulous since my beloved Max Factor Volume Couture is going to be unavailable soon here in the US.
ReplyDeleteI've been using Prestige My Biggest Lashes for the past several months and I love it because it never flakes or smudges and it provides great volume (my number one concern). Plus, it removes easily with your regular cleanser so no need for makeup remover! But of course, like many of you, I always have to give other mascaras a shot because I'm hoping there might be something out there that's just a tiny bit better...
So I'm testing a few other products right now, which I will review in the weeks to come.
Thanks a million for taking the time to answer this question--I absolutely LOVE reading your comments! xo
I doubt there is anything like the perfect mascara out there but I have 3 right now that I really like and I switch them up on a daily basis:
ReplyDeleteCG Professional Thick lash: good volume, Maybelline Full & Soft: great natural defined lashes, and Max Factor 2000: very dramatic lashes. They are all up there 8-9.
My mascara staple is currently Maybelline Lash Stiletto. I can usually catch it on sale..some type of BOGO.
ReplyDeleteThis mascara is the BUSINESS though! I am fortunate enough to have pretty nice lashes, but after 1 (2 if i'm going out) coats of this baby and it looks just as good as falsies.
I've recommended Lash Stiletto to all of my friends and they share the same sentiment..its the best!
Aha! This is the post for me. I've been on a mascara search for weeks now. I'm always sweating off my eye make-up (mascara's the worst) when I run from class to class everyday. And in San Diego where humidity is pretty high, It drips right off!
ReplyDeleteThe right mascara is always difficult to find, especially because I'm Asian-- my lashes stick straight out! I need one that's virtually sweatproof and curls and lifts!
I'm currently using Estee Lauder's lifting mascara, which works quite well (I'd give it an 8.5 because it sometimes does flake), but I'd love to find a cheaper alternative.
Maybelline Full n Soft Waterproof... I'd say it's about a 9/10. Great coverage, no clumps, doesn't smear and make a mess. Me likes. My fave right now though is L'oreal Tube Mascara, which reminds me of Blinc Kiss Me and rocks my world.
ReplyDeleteHey ladies! Thanks for all of these great replies--this helps me SO much in figuring out which drugstore mascaras I'd like to try next. I am convinced that there's something better out there for me...it's just a matter of finding it! :)
ReplyDeleteso i just picked up my biggest lashes from prestige and it is EPIC! i'm in love. it's pretty much exactly the same as diorshow but BETTER cuz it's cheaper and i don't have to deal with snotty nordstrom girls when i buy it! yessss :) thanks nouveau cheap!
ReplyDeleteHey Kellie!! OMG I am SOOOO happy that you like the Prestige mascara! It's pretty great, isn't it? Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know that you like it--you totally made my day!!! xoxo
ReplyDeletePS: And don't you just love that it removes easily too? :)
CoverGirl LashBlast, I wouldn't say it's holy grail b/c it's not nourishing to the lashes and doesn't give that much length/volume, but it does hold curls well and gives decent length & volume.
