The Wednesday Question
There seem to be two holy grail eyeshadow bases these days: Urban Decay Primer Potion and Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I know these products have their loyal devotees, but there have got to be some less expensive solutions to creasing, fading eyeshadow and I want to hear about them!
What is your favorite budget-friendly eyeshadow base?
Do you use one product or a combination of products?
Do you use an unconventional product like an eyeshadow pencil or creme as a base? Or maybe a foundation or pressed powder?
Tell me what works for you, as long as it's cheap!

I use the cream eyeshadows from "Ten Beauty" that I get at the 99 Cents Only store. A little compact of 12 of them is 99.9 cents and has a variety of colors. Then I put a complementary powder shadow on top of that. It's important to do your eyeliner first with this, as it doesn't stay on as well on top of the cream shadow.
ReplyDeleteHey Kathleen! You know, I always see those "Ten Beauty" palettes at the 99 Cents Only store but I think I've only tried the clear mascara and nail polish from this line (both are decent for the price!). I will definitely give these a shot--I never thought to use them as an e/s base. So creative! Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteHey R,
ReplyDeletethe NYX jumbo pencils lightly, thinly spread on the lid work really well. They hold up on me for more than 4 hours, and I have oily lids. As a matter of fact, the NYX pencils worked better than the artdeco primer. However, you have to be careful not to apply too much because a tad too much will cause creasing.
I have never had luck w/the NYC Cover Stick Concealer used as a concealer. However, if I lightly spread them over my lids it works awesome at covering the "purple" on my lids and my e/s lasts well over 8 hrs even in the heat. I wish I could find Ten Beauty products here or I'd try those palettes!
ReplyDeleteHey T! That is very good to know because I recently purchased some NYX Jumbo pencils to review but I haven't used one yet because I'm scared! lol. I know, it's crazy but I keep hearing different things about how if you use too much they crease a lot. I just have to remember: Less is more. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Mooosley! I actually never heard about using these as an e/s base! I wish I wouldn't have tossed mine after it did nothing to conceal my blemishes! Guess I better revisit them. Thanks!
L'oreal De-crease eyeshadow base costs about $8.49 and can find at drugstores on sale buy-one-get-one free or buy-one-get-one 50% off from time to time.
ReplyDeleteHey there, Glamorous Beauty! You know, I've never tried this product, if you can believe it! Do you like it?
ReplyDeleteOne more thing on the cream eyeshadows as a base -- if I don't want too much intensity, they're nice on their own -- no sparkle, just sheer color, in rather neutral shades.
ReplyDeleteMichelle Phan (Rice Bunny) normally use Revlon Illuminance cream shadows as base. Same concept with NYX pencils - use with a light hand to avoid creasing. Just get them with BOGO to save (we don't have such thing in Canada) :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Kathleen! Wow, so what's the staying power like on the Ten cream e/s when you wear it on its own? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Halifax! Thanks for the tip. I think I had one of those shadows a while back...I'll have to try and dig it up! :) Oh, and I'm sorry you don't have BOGOs in Canada! That's a bummer :(
As an actual primer- Hard Candy eyeshadow primer. WAAAAAAY better than Urban Decay.
ReplyDeleteAs a base- e.l.f. Cream Eyeshadow Duo in Sugar Cookie
