Maybelline Spring 2013 Limited Edition Color Tattoos in Icy Mint and Lavish Lavender

Cheryl writes:
These pictures I thought were the best representation out of all the pictures I took but they are still by no means color perfect. The Lavish Lavender goes on more pigmented than the Icy Mint. The Icy Mint is much more sheer and has more of an opalescent quality to it than the lavender. I layered about 4 swipes of the Icy Mint to get it to show up in these pics. They are very reflective -- the picture you see where they look shiny was taken outside in the sunlight.

The following picture makes it really easy to see the sparkle in Lavish Lavender:

Next up, reader Jill purchased the three duochrome shades in this collection and was nice enough to share some swatches of all three with us:

Jill writes:
Waves of White is very pretty, but very sheer. It has a definite mother-of-pearl feel.
Cool Crush is a very pretty blue-grey-silver. Not as sheer as Waves of White, but may take a couple layers.
Seashore Frosts is the most stunning, in my opinion. It has the most color payoff as well. It's almost hard to describe, but it's purple-blue-gold. Definitely worth hunting down this shade!
My swatches for all three shades are about 3 layers.

Just added! Here are swatches of Shady Shores, submitted by readers Lindsay and Diana:

Top: one layer
Bottom: three layers

So Shady Shores is also a duochrome! As Diana described it, it's a "yellow-gold with blue/green shift." So pretty!
Thank you so much for sharing these swatch pics with us, Cheryl, Jill, Lindsay and Diana. I really appreciate all of the effort you went through to take these and share them with us!
Ohhh Lavish Lavender is so pretty
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to find these! They look gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe mint looks so sheer, what a shame. I have all of them released so far and I hate to be missing one but at the same time that looks pretty bad. :(
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'm definitely going to have to come up with a storage solution now.. I think these will put me over 20 shades. I've got an idea in my mind of something that mounts on the wall where they can be lined up in rows.. similar to a spice rack.. but have not found the right rack yet.
I store these upside down (like MAC Paint Pots) and that helps. If they get that film I wipe the top layer off with a paper towel.
Delete"Do you have any suggestions to help prevent them drying out, or reviving them if they have? "
DeleteHasn't been a problem. I find they get a sort of film on the surface, but a few swipes of my brush or finger and it wipes right off and it's good as new. I've had my original colors since they first were released, so I think that makes them a year and a half old. I do keep them stored upside down (just so I can see the color)and make sure the lid is on tight.. I guess that may help.
Wrap thread seal tape around the opening! You can find it in Walmart and hardware stores I'm sure. It's a tape that goes around the threading of the jar so when it closes it prevents any air going in
Delete"Wrap thread seal tape around the opening!"
DeleteWhat a creative idea, and one I've never heard before. For any who don't know, the package is usually blue and white plastic and looks like a bobbin for a sewing machine, only about 3" across. Cheap too, around a dollar. Look for it where they keep the plumbing stuff.
That's an awesome idea, ivylively!
DeleteI use wax paper: put it over the open jar, close it, then trim the excess. So far it works.
thanks Cheryl! you're the bomb!
ReplyDeleteWow I didn't think Lavish Lavender would be pretty but it looks really pretty!:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches, Cheryl!
ReplyDeleteLavish Lavender looks sooooo pretty!
I like mint colors, but it's disappointing to see how sheer Icy Mint is.
Those would be great bases for the spring L'Oreal Infallible shadows that you mentioned the other day. OMG!
ReplyDeleteI bought the purple, mint, white and "cool crush" at my Bed Bath and Beyond/Harmon store in NH. I'll see if I can get swatches
ReplyDeleteI want Seashore Frosts so bad now!!! Of course it will take at least 1 more month befor my local drugstore gets the collection... Should I try Ulta? Have they received it?
ReplyDeleteI was in Ulta today, and they said they would be putting the display out on Sunday :-)
DeleteOMG. Seashore Frosts is EVEN BETTER than I hoped it would be! O______O
ReplyDeleteIf I can only get my hands on Seashore Frosts, then I would be a very happy girl!
ReplyDeleteSo jealous of you lucky Americans. We don't get any of these Color Tattoo limited editions here in Europe, le sigh!
ReplyDeleteSeashore Frost would be right up my alley, I'm kinda collecting them. Sad face!
Try eBay! They will be available for you to buy :)
DeleteYes indeed, but tbh, I am no fan of paying twice and triple the price plus horrendous shipping from the US for a jar of Maybelline eyeshadow :(
Deleteseashore frost looks so pretty
ReplyDeleteSeashore Frosts is pretty but the rest? Pass. Too sheer for my liking. Cool, sheer colors don't look good around my eye area at all.
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely, but I wish they'd come out with a few more matte options ... like a white, a fleshy/Painterly shade, one lighter than Tough as Taupe, a black ... Maybe they don't have as much pan appeal, but I'd get a lot more use out of mattes!
ReplyDelete"These are lovely, but I wish they'd come out with a few more matte options"
DeleteTotally agree. Especially since they have released two shimmery flesh tones (and I much preferred the first one, but that is a different discussion). Why we haven't had "color tattoo nudes" released yet is beyond me.
let's hope they do something like that for the fall!! i'd be ALL over it.
DeleteWaves of White is sheer, but does it apply evenly?
ReplyDeletethese are amazing! they'd make a great base. i'm still waiting and hoping that maybelline will create more matte colors. i bought two "tough as taupe" tattoo eye shadows and haven't used much else since.
ReplyDeleteG, do you know if they will have more matte colors coming out?? thanks!!
Just located these at Bed Bath and Beyond. The display only has slots for two of each color. FYI. My store was already out of the lavender but she was super nice and ordered it from another store so check with the beauty manager if you go to a BBB store for these. Also was able to use a Ulta coupon off the beauty items. I got all 6 shades so will try to swatch sandy shores tonight!
ReplyDeletepretty! these wouldn't work on me though because these type of shimmery-lack of pigment shades don't show up well on my eyelids (which are somewhat wrinkly and hooded...and im only 26). even barely beige doesn't do anything to me.
ReplyDeletebut these are Summer shades?? =(((( I was hoping for some fun bright colors.
These shades are all a bit similar, I was expecting that Maybelline would've done something super bright for Summer! Some of these are pretty, but they don't look nearly as pigmented as some of the original shades. Darn, I'm waiting for a hot pink- or a matte black!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors and I love Maybelline's formula (much better than L'oreal IMO) but probably way too frosty for my 46 yr old eyes :(

ReplyDeleteI need Seashore Frost in my life! It makes me so anxious just to think that I won't be able to find it :( lol
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing Jill's swatches I raced back to BB&B to get Cool Crush and Seashore Frosts. Lucky I did because I got the last Seashore Frosts at my local store. I am going to skip buying the white and the yellow ones because I don't wear white or yellow e/s all that often. I'll save my pennies for looking for the L'Oreal Infallibles from the Miss Candy collection.
ReplyDeleteThe lavender and cool crush are beautiful. I wonder when these will finally make their way over to Canada, if at all?
ReplyDeleteI collect these, plus *duochromes*, so I had to have them all. Found them all at my local Fred Meyer (northwest chain) so if you're in the PNW, check it out! I also had a coupon for BOGO 1/2 off, which really helped.
ReplyDeleteNew colors!?!? I might have to swipe me more of the color tattoos.
ReplyDeleteCan you set up an interactive sightings map for these LE Maybelline Color Tattoos???
ReplyDeleteAre they only doing to be released at BB&B? Cause we only have one store here that has the cosmetics. Which sucks but at the same time makes it too limited.
ReplyDeleteFound them at Rite Aid in NH today. I picked up all minus the gold and purple. Yay!
ReplyDeletecan I get at CVS, Wal-greens, Rite-aid?
ReplyDeleteI am crossing my fingers and toes I can find them at a Walgreens tomorrow. Im going to try Ulta too. I doubt it but its worth a try.
ReplyDeleteI have not had any luck finding them yet. Interactive site map please:)
ReplyDeleteBut I did find the new loreal infallibles at Walgreens
