The results of the reader poll are in (and I would LOVE your feedback)

Every month on Nouveau Cheap, I run a poll and at the end of the month, I post the results here for us to see and to discuss. Last month's poll was a bit different (it usually centers on products and brands), because I wanted to get your feedback on what you like to see here, in terms of content. So THANK YOU to everyone who took a minute to vote in last month's poll--this type of  information is invaluable to me.

This poll received over 1,400 votes, so let's see how you voted:

Usually when I post a poll, I have some sort of idea of what's going to win or at least rank highly, but this poll TOTALLY surprised me. I had no idea that Product Reviews would rank so much more highly than any other feature on my blog. So THANK YOU for letting me know that--I have so many product reviews in the queue right now and I'm testing several products at the moment, so I'll definitely be giving you more of what you want very soon! The thing is, as much as I'd like to publish multiple new product reviews every day, it takes me a lot of time just to write ONE review.  As you know, if you've read any of my reviews, they're not "short and to the point" (sorry, it's not my style, never has been and never will be!). I try to give you as many details as humanly possible about every product I review, and I give each product a lot of time for testing so that I'm absolutely 100% sure of my feelings before I share them with you. So while I don't post product reviews as frequently as I'd like to here--please know that I'm working feverishly to give you more of them, as quickly as I can.

Another shocker:  the Weekly Sales Post didn't even crack the top four. WOW, that was another surprise! I spend a lot of time each week putting the drugstore sales post together and also the Ulta/Target/Kmart sales posts, but if they're not something that the majority of you are interested in seeing each week, PLEASE let me know. In fact, I've noticed that the Ulta/Target/Kmart sales posts (which I have yet to do this week--sorry for the delay!) are probably one of the least commented-on posts I do each week. I'd love to know if that information is just not something that appeals to you because you don't live near an Ulta, etc. or if it's just so cut and dry that you don't feel the need to comment on those posts (but still find them useful)?

I've actually been considering stopping the Ulta/Target/Kmart posts altogether to focus more of my time on product reviews and, based on the winner of this poll, maybe that's something you wouldn't mind?

Thanks again for taking the time to give me your feedback, and I'd love for you to take a minute to vote in this month's poll (located on the right-hand sidebar). This month we're tackling drugstore face primers!

PS: If your favorite affordable face primer is not listed in this poll, you'll have a chance to ring its praises next month when I post the results!

  1. Yay the product reviews are definitely my favorite too. I only live near a target (no Ulta or Kmart), and I usually don't care too much for the bogo deals since I typically just want one item at a time (sadly I don't finish multiple products at the same time) and avoid hoarding stuff just because it's a good deal. But I understand why bloggers like you love bogo deals since you are able to try many products and do reviews on them!

  2. I would vote for the new poll but I don't use a face primer!

    1. LOL - same here! I don't use foundation or anything like that, so no need for a primer. I just use a dab of concealer on my eyelids as a base for eyeshadow/liner. Would love to see a poll showing how many people actually wear foundation at all.

In fact, I'd love to see weekly or biweekly polls instead of monthly polls. It's great to know what other people think and do.

    2. me neither! Not a face primer user :)
I really like these posts because I realize what everyone else is thinking too!

  3. I voted for Product Reviews, because you give so much information and all of your reviews are way better than alot of other bloggers reviews. I understand that it takes a lot of time to write a review and test the product, though.

I like reading really any of your posts, I also like the Dupe Alerts. My least favorite would have to be the Weekly Drugstore Makeup Sales & the Target/Kmart/ULTA sale posts. I still like them, but reviews and dupes are my favorites!

  4. I read nearly all the posts you put up and I live near all the stores you mention weekly except for Ulta. The Weekly Sales Post is on my to-read list every Sunday. I personally don't mind if you decide to stop the Ulta/Kmart/Target post especially if that is something you really want to do.

  5. You're right- I find I don't comment on those posts because they're pretty cut and dry, but I DO find your Target etc sale listings very helpful! There are Target and Ulta stores in my "metro" area, but none are close enough to stop by regularly. Your posts let me know when I should make a trip. :)

    1. Same here, except I go to Target far too often! :/ I really appreciate the heads up the Target coupons, specifically because I do about half my shopping there.

  6. G! I think the problem is that you do so many excellent kinds of posts, it's hard to pick a favorite! I love your reviews, but I also really look forward to the weekly drugstore sales and new product sightings. And it was probably the drugstore dupes that brought me here in the first place. I'm so excited that you'll be doing more reviews - you've already introduced me to some of my favorite products of all time.

  7. I really appreciate the time you take to write the weekly sale posts, but, they just aren't as interesting to read as your reviews and new product posts. I love how in-depth your reviews are and how you include so many pictures with each one(so many bloggers barely use more than a stock image of a product!) I guess I would miss the weekly sale posts, but if stopping them gave you more time to do reviews I wouldn't miss them much!

  8. I hardly ever read the Target/Ulta/Kmart posts because I only ever go to Target and never specifically for makeup, but I LOVE the weekly drugstore sales posts. I don't usually take advantage of the BOGO1/2 deals, but it's so helpful to know when there are BOGOFREE or 40% off sales going on. Anyway, I wouldn't mind if the Target/Ulta/Kmart posts are discontinued as long as the drugstore ones aren't!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't comment on the Target/Ulta/Kmart posts because they are so cut and dry, like you said. I do read them, though. However, I find the drugstore ones more important than the T/U/K ones, simply because the deals are usually better.

I am glad product reviews was #1! It's def my fave.

And I, too, won't be voting in this new poll...as I don't wear face primer either.

  10. I look forward to the CVS/Rite Aid/Walgreens weekly sales posts every week and find them very helpful! I appreciate the time and effort you put into writing those posts every week and hope that you will continue to do so. Thank you!

  11. I definitely agree with the top 3 poll results. Product reviews/swatches are my #1 priority in reading beauty blogs. Your reviews are especially valuable because you tend to review more affordable brands, as opposed to blogs like Temptalia, who review stuff that's far too expensive for a lot of people. Drugstore dupe alerts are also awesome, for much the same reason. I love the UD Naked palette, but I'd never in a hundred years pay $50 for a palette, or for makeup item. So your roundup of UD Naked dupes was amazing and extremely helpful. Please show us more budget-conscious options.

I think the reason that people may not care as much about the drugstore/Ulta, etc. weekly ads is that it's easy to sign up to get e-mails and flyers directly from those stores. So the information may be redundant. But I appreciate it when you post about really awesome deals/hauls one can make by using coupons and extra bucks and such.

I also really appreciate the poll questions. It's a great way for everyone to sound off about stuff they've tried and loved and it really makes the site feel like a community. I chose my current wrinkle cream and moisturizer based off of your readers' suggestions.

  12. I have never commented before, but I had to let you know how much I appreciate your posts. I have been alerted to SOOO many Sale Alerts and New Product sitings from your blogs. I always check the weekly drugstore sale alerts, but I don't really check the Target/Ulta/Kmart sales as I rarely go there. I also LOVE the product reviews and dupe alerts. You are really the only beauty blogger that I have on my bookmark page. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR ALL YOU DO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. My faves are DEFINITELY your reviews - you're INCREDIBLY thorough! I read every one of them, even if I think (at first, anyway) that I'm not interested in the product being reviewed. I don't live near any Ultas/Targets/KMarts, so I skip those posts. I LOVE (& NEED!) your weekly drugstore sales posts - I don't go out without checking here first! And of course, I voted in both polls: Fave feature - reviews; Fave primer - Revlon PhotoReady.

  14. I love all of the product reviews, but I live for the weekly sale posts! I've found out about so many good things that way. It's nice to have everything all in one place instead of clicking around all over the internet. I also love the sale/deal alerts and new product sightings (especially at Big Lots!)

    1. I agree with Hannah. It is especially appreciated by me as I a Kmart is literally on my way to work, and closer to me than any of the drug stores that you list. Your posts are the reason I discovered (and use!) e.l.f. and LA Colors eyeshadow palettes (which I love!)... but, if you do have to do something to give yourself more time for product reviews, then maybe just post a u/t/k alert when there is something awesome going on that we need to know about....? But please continue to do the weekly coupons... you save me so much time (and money) that i don't know what i would do without it!

  16. I really look forward to the Weekly Drugstore Sales Post because I find them very helpful and useful. I've gotten some great deals at CVS thanks to you! I do find the Target/Kmart Weekly Sales Post a bit useful but my local Target, Kmart, and Ulta is about 30-45 minutes away. I don't really read it all the time. I definitely want you to continue the drugstore sales. I like how the sales are straight and to the point!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love everything & short reviews aren't my style either! I read all the sale posts but am definitely guilty about not commenting. I'm sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have to say that I personally really appreciate your drugsotre weekly sales posts. That way I don't have to look through the paper to find the sales because you compile them all in one post. Super helpful for me!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't live near an ulta or a kmart, and target sales never seem to be very exciting. I'm sure your readership wouldn't rise up in revolt if you chose to use more of your time for YOU in regards to target/ulta/kmart. And perhaps the drugstore posts would take less time if you restricted it to the best deals only, then link to iheartwags/cvs/riteaid. It won't kill people to do a bit of work for themselves!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I like the drugstore weekly sales posts, but the others aren't terribly helpful, but your site is a nice, concise place to refer back when I'm curious is something is on sale. I may not comment on them, because I feel there isn't much interesting I can say, but I DO look at them and appreciate the work!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I voted for product reviews because I love in depth reviews that talk about every single detail, which is what you do and I appreciate your hard work. I look forward to the weekly drugstore sales because I ALWAYS miss a deal just by looking at the flyer so it's nice to have everything summarized. I'm sure it takes a lot of time and effort to make those posts though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love your reviews so much!! You really take your time with those to give us an in depth and honest review! But I personally enjoy and look forward for the weekly sales every week and really appreciate the time you take. Love your blog :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I do really appreciate the drugstore sales posts, but do not use them every week simply because money is often tight around here and the last thing I need is a reminder of the fantastic deals I am missing.. lol. I usually use yours for an overview, then go to a serious couponing site (I like southern savers)for the entire list of sales and available Q's- I'm going for the makeup, but if I'm going to go I might as well take advantage of all the deals.

I seldom ever read the ulta/target/kmart one.. because I do not have an ulta.. and target and kmart seldom ever have good sales.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't read the Ulta/Target/Kmart post, not because I don't have them near me, but because I prefer to buy my makeup at the drugstore. So I certainly would understand if you stopped posting those. BUT the drugstore sales are essential to me!! Especially the coupon matchups, I love to coupon but I'm just not organized enough to get the best deals. I REALLY appreciate everything you do and all the hard work you put into your blog G. :) xo

  25. The weekly drugstore sales posts are actually the most helpful posts for me! I don't comment on the K-Mart/Ulta/Target posts because I don't live near any of those stores but I always have your CVS and Rite Aid posts whenever I go to the drugstore. I also love your other posts!

  26. Yay, keep up the good work! I love everything about your site!

  27. I really, really like the weekly drugstore sales post. I can easily see what's on sale without scanning the CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid circulars. Plus it's a great reference if I get to a store and something catches my eye and I think "Wait, is that brand on sale here this week?" I don't always read the Kmart/Target/Ulta post as there's no Ulta near my home, and I always read the entire Target circular to see what's on sale for electronics, home furnishings, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I enjoy the product reviews most because that's info you can't get from a company's or store's web site (they, of course, all say their products are the best!). The sales posts don't do anything for me because I can see all that in my Sunday paper or online. Anyone can sign up for email alerts or sales fliers from Target, Ulta, Bath & Body Works, etc. so to me the posts are redundant and I wouldn't miss them at all (no offense). I also love your Drugstore Dupe Alerts, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Please Please Please don't stop your weekly drugstore sale or Ulta sales. I don't care for the Kmart target info but I value the Ulta info because for some reason I don't always get every ulta flier so I always check your website for that info. And it is a habit for me to always check your weekly drugstore sales. Please don't stop

    ReplyDelete
  30. I personally love the weekly sale posts, however it seems like they've been posted later as of recently i.e late saturday night or sunday and sometimes not at all..running a blog isn't easy so I get it...but what I loved about the weekly sales was that it came a day or two before the sales started so I didn't have to go on the site itself. I came here and it was all here for me. The ulta/target ones I could care less for because the ads come in the mail prior to the sale so I usually see them earlier anyway. Whew that was a mouthful. None the less I love love love your blog it's a college girl's bff!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yours is the only blog I HAVE to check daily so I don't miss a sale. I love your roundup of beauty deals and sales and really appreciate the time it takes you to do them; like others have said, they don't seem to need comments. Your product reviews are the BEST. Thanks for all you do!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Please don't stop the sales post! I love those!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love the product reviews and product sightings the best. Pretty displays and review pictures always get me. :-) Honestly I usually skip over the weekly sales posts, but I know lots of people love them.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The Ulta/Target/Kmart posts don't really appeal to me because there isn't a Kmart that's nearby and I prefer going to drugstores/Ulta for beauty items rather than Target.

While I love knowing what's on sale at Ulta, I usually just look through the catalog they send every month to find out all the deals.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I always read the drug store sale posts - but often times I skip the target and ulta posts. It seems like target doesnt have crazy awesome sales, and I always have easy access to the ulta circular. Love the drugstore posts though - saves me so much time! Thanks to that and the coupon post I got the Revlon whipped cream foundation for $6 yesterday!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love the drugstore sale posts! thanks to you I got the revlon whipped cream foundation for $6!

  37. Please continue to do the Ulta/Target sales post. Those are my two favorite places to purchase makeup from and I always look at your blog first to see what's on sale!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I skip the Ulta/Target/Kmart posts mainly because I don't live near an Ulta or Kmart and I don't shop at Target for beauty products. I LOVE the drugstore sales posts though, super helpful!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love the weekly drugstore posts and I think I would definitely still love to see the Target one on there. I'm so sorry I don' comment on those. I just read through it and then make my shopping list and head out to the stores without even thinking about how much work it must be for you to put those together. So, thank you so very, very much for putting those together. They are sooooooo appreciated!!!

  40. Your product reviews have always been IMMENSELY helpful and also entertaining to read! I'm glad to hear that you're planning on reviewing so many more products, as I always enjoy reading in depth about what's new at the drugstore.

And I always read the weekly sales posts, including the Ulta/Target/K-Mart ones. But you're right, I rarely comment on those are they're generally just objective information, but I do always read them every week.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think it's exactly as you lined it out for me G. I do anxiously await both of your sale posts each week, but I don't find it necessary to comment on either one. I only live near a Walgreens, there is no CVS or Rite Aid in my state...and my closest Target, Ulta, or Sephora is 2 hours away for me. So my only other shopping places to go to around here are Sally's, Walmart, and a Kmart. I live in a rural college town that is in the center of Missouri, 2 hours away from any metro area unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love your product reviews, but I have to say I wake up every Monday and head straight here to check the weekly drugstore sales. I usually don't comment just because as you said, it's pretty self-explanatory but it's truly one of the main reasons I even discovered this blog. The Target/Ulta/Kmart sales I don't use as much simply because the only thing near me is a Kmart and even then I don't head there as often as I do Walgreens and CVS. Either way, thank you for all the hard work you put into these posts!!

  43. I'm just as suprised as you are that the weekly sales post didnt rank as high as we thought. I personally every sunday look forward to reading the weekly sales post its so convenient & helpful. i'm truly grateful that you take the time to post it every week even though i know you spend so much time & it must be quite time consuming in order for you to post the weekly sales every week. So I'd really hope that you would continue with the weekly sales post i highly enjoy them. (: As for the ulta/target/kmart posts... i could live without it i usually just go to each of their sites & look at their weekly ads there i like visually seeing what they have on sale and such. But thanks again for all the hard work & commitment you put into each & every one of your posts! i appreciate it (:

  45. Please keep up the weekly sale posts! Your blog is my go-to to check for sales! I check them whenever I am thinking about buying some makeup! (Don't tell my husband but sometimes if I see something really good I'll go get some things anyway. =D ) I shop at Walgreens, Ulta, and Target. Thanks for having an awesome blog! Keep up the awesome work!

  46. I anxiously await your sales posts, too, but I don't usually comment on them! They really are extremely useful, so I hope you'll keep them up (and thanks so much for all your effort on them!).

  47. I like the weekly drugstore sales, but I just glance at them to see if there is anything that interests me. As far as the Ulta/Kmart/Target posts, our Kmart closed and we don't have Ulta so I don't usually look at that post.

If I happen to be in an area with an Ulta, I don't mind looking at the ad because it is all beauty products - the Walgreens and CVS ads are a different story.

    I definitely love product reviews!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Although I am an avid reader, I am not a frequent poster. I started frequenting your site for the weekly beauty sale posts and stayed for the reviews and everything else!! I agree that the weekly sales posts don't really require much comment. I hope you don't give up the weekly sales posts!! And . . . keep up the reviews, as well!! Thanks for all you do!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I really look forward to your product reviews G.!! Especially nail polishes LOL! I also like lip products. Once in a while I look at the weekly sales, I like that I can access the post on my phone so that when I am out and about, I can compare prices. Generally speaking though I look forward to sitting and reading the Sunday paper sales flyers! It is like a little ritual I have and I dont feel like my Sunday has started until I do this! I call it "Shopping" HAHAHA!!!! Keep doing what you are doing! Your blog is best around!!! :)

  50. Love your blog. I do not live near kmart/target/ ulta and would not mind if you cancel that blog. Love your product reviews because they are on affirdable brands and you also do "ethnic" product reviews. Luvin black radiance primer.

I get the drugstore circulars and only look far special sales in your site. I nevet go to drugstore unless there is a special sale on beauty products. New sightings are also loved. Your site is no.1 for me, check your site before I buy. Can you do more beauty sales from walmart and sallys beauty supply.. I buy the majority of my items from Walmart. They are cheaper and they are more readily available. Would love reviews on makeup and nail polish at Sallys. Thanx

  51. I honestly prefer one well written review to three throw away reviews. My advice is not to put up a review for the sake of makign us happy.

I don't like the weekly sales posts because I buy makeup mostly at CVS or Sephora. Since I go to both every week, I already know what's on sale. Even if the sales at Ulta or Target were amazing, I wouldn't be likely to partake.

Looks like you should take the time you were putting into sales posts and put them into reviews instead!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I was one that voted for liking all of the features equally - and that still holds true. Your blog is as close to a "beauty info clearinghouse" as I've come across on the internet. I personally would be very disappointed if your weekly sales postings (including KMart, Ulta, etc.) were to go away. Instead of having to hunt all that info down on an individual basis, your blog is "one-stop" - a huge time-saver (especially considering I don't get a newspaper delivered).
I know that doing what you do takes a great deal of time. I so appreciate it and thank you very, very much!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Actually - I religiously read your sales posts every week (and definitely notice when you're not able to get them up right away)! I've tried other sites, but your format is SO much easier to read, and you highlight special deals/extra discounts, which I would totally miss otherwise. I'd be really sad if they went away. :(

    ReplyDelete
  54. I voted for product reviews because like everyone else said, you give amazing, in-depth reviews that are really helpful. I also religiously read your weekly drugstore sales post, and look forward to them, but I don't always have the money to spend on makeup that week so I just glance them over. But if I do have money, I always check your site first to see whether I'll get a deal or not!

But this doesn't mean you have to do more reviews and less sales posts! I think your schedule of posting about 1 review a week is good enough. Otherwise, when will you ever get to use your HG items?

I don't live near an K-Mart/Ulta/Target so I don't read those posts either.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE your thorough & unbiased product reviews. You have introduced me to new brands/products & also saved me lots of $ on less than stellar items. I, along w/my wallet, are SO appreciative of that!

I tend to use iheartwags, iheartcvs & iheartriteaid for the Weekly Ad previews when I want to see what will be on sale in the next few weeks, so I don't really use the Weekly Sale Posts. Ulta.com also has the current sale flyer online, so that's another resource I regularly use instead of the Ulta/Target/Karmet sale postings.

So I would (somewhat selfishly) vote for more Product Reviews in place of the Weekly Sale Posts especially if you're running short on time/energy. Thanks for such a fabulous site, btw! I always check here & MakeUpAlley before I buy anything new!

    ReplyDelete
  56. love everything u do and especially the drug store and target/ulta/kmart sales!! so pls don't stop

    ReplyDelete
  57. I like the weekly sale posts, but I prefer the drugstore posts. I don't live anywhere near an Ulta (strangely and sadly), Kmart is about 20 minutes away, and Target just doesn't have nearly as good beauty sales, it seems. Except clearance, which one never knows about.

But I love the summary of the sales: I check other websites if I want to see everything on sale, but I come here to see about beauty sales! So much easier to skim through rather than combing an entire list (or ad, which gets very confusing).

So if you need to, you can drop the Ulta/Target/Kmart posts, but please don't stop the drugstore sales posts!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I really like the drugstore sales posts, but I don't have any Ultas where I live (if I wanted to go to an Ulta, I'd have to take an airplane or a boat), Target is about 30 minutes away, and K-mart is just never really on the radar for me. So personally, I'll be fine if you drop it, but I know there are many other readers, so take my comment with a grain of salt ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Personally, the only things that I come to your blog for are product reviews, and the "Spotted" posts. I scroll right past all of the weekly sales posts.

For me, it's because the way that I buy products is, I have something in mind that I want, and I look for a deal at my local drugstore. (It's never the other way around i.e.; there's a sale at the store and so I buy stuff just because it's on sale.)

I love your blog for all of the in depth product reviews most of all! They've been really helpful for me. Thanks so much for all of the work you put into them.

  60. Please don't think that because I don't comment on the sale posts that I don't appreciate it! In fact, I much appreciate those posts, especially the drugstore posts. I don't shop in drugstores very much (except for cosmetics and prescriptions), and your well-written posts let me know when it's worth stopping by. As for Ulta/Target/Kmart, I don't have a Kmart near me and I usually look through the Ulta and Target circulars myself. (Still read your posts though)

Even so, I also like your reviews and Spotted posts. I find myself noting things I see just so I can come mention it here! I like all your posts equally and they are all appreciated.

  62. I agree with whoever said that it's kind of difficult to pick favorites because all your posts are so great. Personally, I looove the Ulta/Kmart/Target posts a lot because they help me very much! But if it's too much effort, no problem.
