Essence of Beauty brushes got a makeover!

I was absolutely shocked when I was at CVS the other day and noticed that our beloved Essence of Beauty makeup brushes got a complete makeover!

left: old style
right: new style

As you can see, my CVS still has some of the old style left, but they have definitely incorporated the newly-redesigned brushes into the wall display:

Here's a close-up of the ferrule on the eyeshadow brush:

As you can see, the design of the new ferrule gives the appearance of a thin piece of wire that's been wrapped around the brush a zillion times (in reality, I believe this is just a pattern that's been embossed into the metal).

Here's a pic of the newly-redesigned kabuki. Obviously the packaging has changed too--it's no longer light blue. Now it's red and there's a black box in the lower right-hand corner of each package that clearly lets you know the purpose of each brush ("eyes", "face", etc.).

Essence of Beauty fans: time for an informal poll! What do you prefer: the old packaging or the new? Leave your answer in the comments--I'd love to know!

  1. I prefer the new. They look more expensive in my opinion.

  2. I like the new design. I haven't tried any Essence of Beauty brushes, but it looks like they're trying to appear more high-end. Hopefully the quality of the brushes matches the new appearance! :D

  4. The new packaging certainly grabs your attention! Whenever I spot the new brushes, I might pick up the angled brush. =)

  5. I'm not overly concerned about what they look like as long as they still hold up like they have. I have a bunch of these brushes and I'm really happy with them.

  6. I may be in the minority here, but I prefer the old packaging/design! The blue packaging and light-colored handles seemed a little more classy to me...they reminded me a lot of Bobbi Brown brushes. I'll have to wait and see them in person when they get to stores in my area (since I'm in NY, and judging by the availability of new products/LE collections around here lately, I would say the new brushes should hit my area sometime this century...), but I'm none to thrilled with this little "makeover"

  8. The old version looks "classier" and less typical. They really did resemble the high end Bobbi Brown brushes

  9. I love the new look. It looks so "highend". Not that it matters, but it looks really cool!

  10. I agree with Sarahkin and Leticia. I prefer the old packaging because it also reminded me of BB brushes. The new brushes look similar to those cheap Walmart brushes to me.

  11. i can't put my figure on why, but i think the new version looks so cheap. i don't care for the old version (if the eyeshadow brushes were longer, i'd be cool), the "wood" doesn't bother me. but i'll probably still buy. i need their foundation brush.

  12. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but my old Essence of Besuty Brushes always broke apart at the ferrule. So I'm hoping this new design won't break apart. I do like the new packaging. It'll match the rest of my brushes with the black handle and silver ferrule. =)

  13. I agree with the ladies who said they preferred the old style. I like the wooden handles/bb look. I also agree that (from the photos-I haven't seen them in person) the new design is cheaper and more generic looking. I might need to see if the old ones are still at my CVS so I can stock up on them. The angled powder brush is one of my favorite brushes and I would be upset if I couldn't replace it.

  14. I like the older ones better and like someone before said, the newer one does look typical and generic.

  15. I agree with those who prefer the old packaging and that the new version looks cheap. It's always hard to find your favorite items when they change the packaging on you!

  16. I love the design of the new brushes! I love essence of beauty brushes well the face brushes but I had a bad experience with the old ones I guess the glue wasnt sticking or something but the brush head kept coming off the handle i tried super gluing them back together but that didnt work either. these look a little bit sturdier so hopefully they are!

  17. I adored the old packaging. Like the others said, It reminded me of Bobbi Brown brushes. I need to go to CVS ASAP. Need to stock up before they make the change at my CVS. Don't know what i'd do w/o my foundation and eyeshadow brushes.

  19. I saw those yesterday and thought it was a new brand. I don't care what they look like as long as they work. I love the crease brushes that come in a 2 pack.

  20. All Essence of Beauty products are BOGOF at cvs.com. Could be a good deal for someone who wants to stock up on the old brushes.

Haven't used this brand of brushes before, but I do like the new look.

  21. I bought the smokey-wide brush to try of the new version, even though I have the old one...anyway the handle is plastic and feels more cheap in comparison to the old wood handle.
