How to get two Milani lip products for $3.49 (really!)

In many ways, I am still a coupon novice. So when I was at CVS yesterday and the CVS slot machine gave me a "Buy one Milani lip product, get one free" coupon (which apparently is brand new this week so scan your cards for it ASAP), I was like a deer caught in headlights.

You see, Milani is currently BOGO1/2OFF this week at CVS. So how does a BOGOFREE coupon work if you use it during a BOGO1/2OFF sale?  My coupon-savvy readers are probably shaking their heads at me right now for not knowing, but thankfully I have Lisa, one of the Drugstore Divas, to go to whenever I'm in "coupon crisis" and I can't figure something out.

So for all the details on how to absolutely maximize your savings with this CVS coupon and sale, click on over to the Drugstore Divas post here.

Yay for cheap Milani lip stuff!

  2. I got this yesterday, I didn't realize that every monday the slot machine prints new ones. Is there a limit to how many times we can scan our card in a day? Thanks!

  3. I am still shocked the crt pays for the higher priced one and not the one already 50% off-what a deal! Has anyone else tried it?

  4. Exciting! I'm gonna have to go try tonight. <3 Oh, and how much you get off in this situation is dependent on your cashier. Last time I tried to do this with a buy one get one free coupon during a buy one get one half off sale, the cashier would only take off the one that was already affected by the sale. ;_; Still a good deal though! I'm gonna try to get a less picky cashier for this one though. XD

  5. I'm going right now to get it thanks! I went to my loca Rite Aid and found some great stuff on clearance near the cash registers. The Sally Hansen lipglosses were on sale for $1.57 and you can get a $1 off coupon on the new Sally Hansen product display, coming out at $.57 + tax. That's great because these lipglosses are normally up to $14. They're also natural!

  6. Oh my!! Have you tried this out yet? Do you have to buy two or four items? And also is this the kind of coupon that prints for everyone or only some people? Gahh the whole slot machine thing confuses me sometimes

  7. I hope I can make it to CVS this week and that this coupon prints out for me! *crossing fingers!* Thanks for letting us know!

  8. :( :( :( Lame. I just went and scanned mine and my roommate's cards and neither of them got this coupon! I'm super tempted to try every day this week if I have time. XD Wish me luck!

Oh, but I did get three of the Tresseme foam shampoos and one of the refreshing sprays for super cheap (b1g1 and $2 off coupons).

  9. wondering if the coupons are offered based on previous purchases. I haven't been able to find my keys for like a month. sadly the card # idk, otherwise, i'd update my info online. i'll settle for bogo 50% off. thanks for the heads up

  10. Phyrra: I'm not sure! lol. I first have to find a CVS that has some of these colors remaining that have *not* been tampered with yet. Why didn't Milani put safety seals on these?? Anyway...what colors are you leaning toward? :)

El blog: There is no limit, however, I've only been able to scan my card twice in a row (at the same store) and get coupons. On the third time, it just tells you there are no coupons available for you at this time. But also, I very rarely get the same coupons twice, and NEVER do I get the *good* coupons twice in one week. lol. So keep scanning every day till you get it! :)

rainbow: I haven't tried it yet, but I will definitely post about it when I do and tell you how it goes! :)

Hana: Very interesting! Now I *really* want to try it to see what ends up happening for me! :)

PS: Ooooh, you scored on that SH gloss! Congrats! And please come back and let us know how it goes when you get the Milani stuff? Thanks!

Victoria: No, I haven't tried it yet, but I will post about it when I do! But no, you do NOT have to buy four items--just two. I wish I could tell you if this coupon will print out for everyone. I think what it really boils down to is what your purchase history is like. If you usually buy makeup (and use your CVS card) I think you're MUCH more likely to have this coupon print out for you. If you never, or very rarely purchase makeup at CVS, then you might not ever get it this week. :(

adorepink: I hope you can get to CVS this week too, honey! And you are so welcome. :)

  11. Hana: Oh man, that sucks! Do you usually use your CVS card when you buy makeup at CVS? That's the only reason I can think of for not getting this coupon, since it seems to give you coupons based on your purchasing history. :( And congrats on that awesome deal on the tresemme! Yay!!

1xellus1: I think you're suspicions are correct, honey. I really do think the coupons are based on your purchase history. So if you haven't been using your card to buy makeup in a while, you might not ever get it. But you're right--bogo1/2off is better than nothing! :)

  12. As far as I've come to understand, CRTs are based on your prior 180 days of shopping. So, if you bought a lot of, say, Pampers in the last 180 days, the scanner will give you coupons for Pampers thinking, "Ah, you've bought this a lot, I'll help you out" and/or coupons for Huggies thinking, "Ah, you don't buy this brand. Maybe I cna get you to switch."

Then, let's say you were buying those diapers in bulk because your best friend was pregnant. But then you got into a big fight and you stopped buying her things so 180 days go by and you've stopped buying anything baby related. Well, CVS will give you a CRT for baby stuff eventually thinking, "Woah, you used to buy this a lot. And now you're not anymore. Maybe I can lure you back to buying it and spending money here."

So, while your CRTs are based on what you buy, they can, in part, be based on what you used to buy but aren't buying.

I don't know if that helped make more or less sense of it all =]

Also, your "brand" CRTs will only print once a week, the first day you scan your card [[or purchase, if your CVS lacks a scanner]] on or after the Monday of that week. Your "CVS brand" CRTs will print every day, once a day. So, you can keep scanning until you get your CVS brand CRTs. That's when you know to stop.

I could go on and on about the scanner, but maybe I will write a post about it [[even though I already seem to have in these comments ... sorry for hijacking!]].

  13. @Lisa from DD- that is very helpful, because so far i have yet to get any brand name coupons either, just CVS ones. but the scanner in my CVS has also been out of commission from time to time so i wonder if that affects what i am getting?

  14. lisa: Thank you SO much for taking the time to break this down for us! I had no idea that it was based on your purchase history from just the last 180 days. So interesting! I feel like I should cut and paste this into a separate post so that everyone can see it! lol! So yes, please write a post on your blog and I will definitely link to it. Oh, and also, can you speak to the comment about how some cashiers might make you pay for the higher priced item instead of the 50% off item? Any tips you can give us to help make sure we only have to pay for the 1/2 off product, or is that wishful thinking? Thanks! :)

beautifulmonday: I'm so glad you saw Lisa's response! And that's interesting--I wonder if your slot machine's condition has anything to do with that. Hum...

  15. Recessionista, I'll write a post for sure. Sometime this week. I'll let you know.

What helps me is that the coupons beep to indicate to the cashier that a price must be put in. Happens with free manu. coupons as well. Just to make it easy for everyone, I always say something like, "Oh, the price on that is $6.99" to the cashier. It makes it easier for them so they don't have to scroll and easier for you too.

Beautiful Monday, How long have you had your CVS card for? If it's only been a few months, then you'll only get CVS brand coupons until the computers can track your purchases and give your CRTs accordingly. Many stores still don't have scanners, so the CRTs print on the receipt's bottom, so I don't think your scanner's service issues should be the problem. Also, around the time of quarterly ecb printing, CRTs tend to stop for some people [[I think based on quarterly spending, but don't quote me on that]], so that might have something to do with it if you've notice it in the recent past.

  16. I always use my or my roommate's extra care card when I'm at CVS. I've gotta go buy some stuff for my mom tonight, so I'm gonna scan our cards again while I'm there. XD

What did you end up getting with your coupon? I hope you tried those 3D glamour glitzy glosses or whatever. The ones with glitter in them. I have the In Vogue or whatever one and it's super nice! I want the coupon to get a couple other colors.

  17. I went to CVS today, scanned and got the milani CRT. So I bought the 3D glitzy glamour glosses in designer label and fashion diva. when I paid, I got another of the same milani coupon. So I went out to a different cvs to pick up the shades in starshine and in vouge. In the end, I got four of the glosses for $8.86, a little over the price of one of those 3D glosses. :] that's a good retail therapy trip.

  18. Lisa: Thank you so much for that!! I can't wait to see your detailed post later this week. :)

Hana: Would you believe I haven't used it yet? I can't seem to find a display w/ those glosses that actually has some that don't look tampered with. I don't understand why they don't put safety seals on those. I can see fingerprints on all the handles so I just don't trust 'em. :(

Jen: Oooh, thank you so much for this! I was hoping to hear from someone who actually took advantage of this deal and got the lower price, so thank you, thank you! I'm going to post about your score right now! And WOW, I can't believe you got htis coupon TWICE! That has never, ever happened for me! Lucky girl! :)

  19. @Lisa- actually I've had my CVS card for 2 years now, and i go there very regularly to pick up prescriptions (which often leads to MU shopping) so they should have plenty of material to go on, quarterly or no. :P

Thanks for your help though. I will keep trying the scanner. and i'm getting a coupon holder so i can make better use of the ones on the recipt ends.
