I've mentioned this in the past, but I think it's important for me to go over it again given the volume of emails and comments I've been receiving recently on this topic. If you subscribe to my daily newsletter (link to do so is in the sidebar of this blog), please take a moment to read this through entire blog post (and thank you!).
Many subscribers have expressed frustration about when the newsletter goes out each evening (roughly 7PM Pacific) because often times, the deals I have posted about during the day are already sold out by the time you see them in my newsletter. So I'd like to once again address why this happens, and what you can do to ensure that you don't miss the hot deals I post about here on the blog.
The newsletter service I use (Feedburner) allows me to select when I want the newsletter to go out to subscribers, and I have selected the window of 7-9PM PST for a few reasons. Most importantly that's because, in a perfect world, my last blog post for the day will be before 7PM PST, thus ensuring that the daily newsletter will feature EVERYTHING I have posted about for that day (which is the goal of the newsletter).
Some of you have asked me if I can change the time to perhaps 7AM Pacific, and to that I say NO, I cannot. Why? Well if I sent the newsletter out at 7AM Pacific each day, then it would miss all of the hot deals that I have posted AFTER 7AM that day. In other words, you would not see those deals until 7AM the FOLLOWING day, which would be a full 24 hours or more after I post about them. So sending the newsletter out at 7PM PST ensures that the deals I've posted about at noon, 3PM, 5PM, etc. get to you within just a few hours, rather than 24+ hours after I have posted about them.
Now there are of course hot deals that I sometimes post about after 7PM Pacific some days, but that is the nature of "hot deals." They come through at all hours, and I have no control over that. I try to post about deals the moment I receive them (seriously, I'm guilty of literally running to the computer after seeing something come through on my phone so I can post it as quickly as I can).
I've said this before but let me say again that subscribing to my newsletter is a great way to see everything I've posted about for the day at-a-glance, but it should NOT be used as a way to stay abreast of the hot deals I post about on my blog. You are going to miss out on some hot deals if you rely solely on my newsletter for your updates. There's simply no way around that, due to the nature of newsletters.
If you would like to be alerted about hot deals IN REAL TIME, I strongly suggest that you follow me via social media. I post a link to each and every blog post I write, the moment the post goes live, on the following social media channels:
Nouveau Cheap Facebook
Nouveau Cheap Twitter
Nouveau Cheap Google+
I am also on Bloglovin' but I do not control when that service posts my blog posts (but they do tend to post them very quickly--just a few minutes after they go live). You can also follow me on Instagram and/or Pinterest, but please be aware I do NOT post about every single blog post I write on those sites. If you rely solely on either of those sites for your info, you are going to miss a lot.
NOTE: If you're not a fan of social media, then I would suggest popping on to my blog a couple times a day (during your lunch break, right after work/school, etc.) and giving my homepage a quick glance for any hot deals that may catch your eye.
Thanks so much for reading, and I hope this answers all of your questions about the newsletter and why it goes out when it does. If you have any other questions, please comment below and I'll do my best to respond. Thanks!
I started using Blogtrottr to subscribe to feeds ever since Google Reader was retired and I love it! It sends me an email within an hour of it being posted of the post, full or partial depending on that person's feed settings.
ReplyDeleteOh nice, Kellie! Thanks for the tip! I use Feedly as my reader since Google Reader went away (they're pretty quick about getting my blog posts up--I subscribe to my own blog through Feedly just to keep an eye on how quickly my posts show up there) but I like that option you mentioned about getting emails!
DeleteI also follow you on FB,and have your posts set to show up first. That way, I don't miss anything.
ReplyDeleteYou are doing God's work, G :)
Aaaah, that's so very sweet of you to say! Thank you (and thank you for the follow on FB!). xo
DeleteYou can text 'follow' and then the person's twitter name (ie: follow @nouveaucheap) to 40404 and then you'll get a text message on your phone with all your tweets!! I think it's the fastest and easiest way to get the information.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I do!
DeleteWell that's cool! I don't have Twitter (or FB or IG), but did this and it sent me welcome messages and the post about the alternatives to oval 6 brush.
DeleteI was just checking via Bloglovin whenever, so sure I miss things (only got one Target box, other was sold out by the time I got up that day -- I'm on vacation from work and sleeping in), but that's ok! I already succumb to too much temptation thanks to this blog!! :D
Thanks for the tip! ...and as always, thanks to G for all the hard work!!
Aaaw, thank you so much, ladies!! xoxo
DeleteI always forget about the Twitter text thing! Great tip!!!
About a year or two ago, I made you my homepage. That way anytime I use my phone, I see your latest posts.
ReplyDeleteYour homepage?? Aaaah, I'm so honored!! Thank you so much for that coveted spot, Georgianna! xo
DeleteIf Nouveau Cheap wasn't one of my dailies, I would consider using Visual Ping to get your site updates. It's a site that sends email notifications of content changes--however, it doesn't work in real time, but you can set it to check the site hourly. I haven't used the service for your site, but I've used it for medical research blogs that don't update often/I don't want to check.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! Thank you, Shannon (and thank you for making me one of your dailies!!). xo
Deletethank you for your time, no matter what you do!
ReplyDeleteI love your page!
Aaaah, thank you so much for that!! xo
DeleteI follow you using Feedly on my phone. Each post appears as it is posted. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I use Feedly too (love that reader!). :)
DeleteI learned early on in my NouveauCheap days that if I wanted to get a hot deal, I better pop in on Miss G several times during the day via Twitter, Insta, Facebook, smoke signals, you name it...LOL. Ain't nobody got a reason to complain (except about me using the term ain't). :-D
ReplyDeleteOmg you're killing me over here, Mary!! LOL @ smoke signals! ;) xo
DeleteI am one of the newsletter subscribers and honestly, its on us to check in other ways, as there are many, knowing how fast things sell out if we wait. You already work your butt off bringing us the latest and greatest, so thats the least we can do. No worries G, I still get amazing deals regardless when I hear about them :) muah!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for that, Steffy. I really, really appreciate it. <3
DeleteI absolutely hate it when things I post about sell out before everyone can get the deal. Every single time I post a deal I say to myself, "Oh PLEASE let this stay in stock for at least 24 hours!" Lol!
I have to agree with @Mary N. Also I don't remember sending u money saying u have just become my personal assistant on all the daily deals as they become available. Lol. So I don't miss any deals. That's kinda why we all sub to what sites we visit and enjoy to check what's going on for that day and/or time. It can really be time consuming and job almost in itself. And really u r here for r enjoyment and what I do u come across for the day. It's like ppl starting reading ur blog and decided u had so much info and ur so good at it. That they starting assumeing that's what ur here for. It's so easy for us to move from one thing to demanding another. It's kinda sad that we r a microwave society. We have to get as fast as we can. Sorry this is so long and philosophical. Just love this Blig and what u do and honk u do GREAT and hate that u have been treated in such a manner. U can edit or shorten this if need. My mom was an editor. Thanks a million times. U have helped see a lot of great deals.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your understanding and kind words, Joyce! I appreciate that more than you'll ever know.
DeleteI can understand when people are frustrated about seeing great deals only to discover that when they try to get them, they're already sold out. That would absolutely frustrate me too! So that's why I thought it was time to explain how the newsletter works again, just so everyone knows that it's not the best way to be alerted to these types of deals. Hopefully everyone who has been frustrated reads this and can find a better way to be alerted. :)
I love this reply! :D
DeleteI am not savvy on all of the social media outlets, but I do have a bookmark on my phone for your page. I click on it whenever I think of it, usually a few times a day. I catch some hot deals this way; it is an old school method, but it works for me! As such, I am so glad the mobile version of your blog is back-- and super awesome to boot!! :) Thanks G., and happy new year!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay for old school bookmarks! I love (and still use) them too! :)
DeleteThank you so much for the kind words about the mobile version! I know it took forever to get that back up and running but I REALLY wanted to do it right this time and I'm thrilled you like it!! :) Happy new year to you, too! xoxo
Te sigo en todas tus redes social. Gracias por tu tiempo y por ponernos al dÃa con todas tus buenas ofertas.
ReplyDeleteI'm with everyone else here...yes...I have missed a load of deals bc I am in a different time zone and can only shop online since I am not in the USA.
ReplyDeleteBut just the fact you take your time to let us know of the deals alone is a lot.
I follow you on G+ and I have alerts for posts.
If I miss a deal I was going to miss it regardless of what time you send the newsletter bc it means I didn't have the time to be online.
Thank you for your blog. I am super glad we share an enjoyment :)
And here I thought that you were my personal servant, making sure that I get first notifications of all the sales and discounts. How could you let me think this?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, some people need to chill. You tell us about good deals and discounts as soon as you can but you are only one person. This isn't even your full time job but you do an amazing job at putting together this website. You have a family and interests outside this blog so you shouldn't be made to feel guilty about not posting a deal as soon as you can. We can follow you on social media or as someone else suggested, follow the websites of the companies who make the products we like. It is NOT your fault if deals are sold out by the time or soon after you post. Everyone is looking for a deal and sometimes there is a big rush to get something (or people buy more than they need to sell on ebay). You are doing us a favor by sharing information and making us aware of these deals. I look at your posts several times a day and have gotten some good buys because of it. Thank you very much for all that you do!
I subscribe to your newsletter, but since I'm on IG on a daily I get to see deals there. I love what you do only wish I had more $ to buy 😊
ReplyDeleteYou need a team helping you manage all that content and engagement! Don't know how you do it.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe people complain about the service you provide! Well I'd like to just say thank you.
