It's True: Essie is Bringing Back Starry Starry Night

The gals over at Beautygeeks just let me know that IT'S TRUE, my fellow polish fanatics! Essie is bringing back one of the most coveted polishes of all time. Starry Starry Night is releasing in January in the US, as part of the Retro Revival Collection. All the info you need is in the caption above!

Are you one of the lucky ones who have an original bottle of Starry Starry Night? If not, are you happy to finally not have to pay a zillion dollars for one soon?

  1. I bet you those people who paid hundreds on eBay are going to be slightly upset. Me? I'd rather have a bottle from 2016 that sells for $8.50 than an original bottle for $200 (give or take).

  4. I'm a polish junkie, but what's the fuss over this shade? Looks like there is an indie brand dupe of it. Personally I'm kind of over these dark, micro glitter polishes. They look amazing in the bottle but they all pretty much just look like plain dark polish unless you or someone else is looking at your nails from very close up. Although I do find that layering a single coat of a polish like this under a solid navy blue will make it look more true-to-bottle on the nails. Sometimes doing 3 layers of a polish like this for opacity actually makes it look more murky/less sparkly! The method I mentioned makes the glitter stand out more I guess because it's a solid layer on top vs. some of the glitter being covered by more layers of polish.

    1. If you're a newer polish junkie, I can see why you don't see why its special. At the time, it was really one of its kind. So unique and very special. Basically on the same status as Chanel Holo. So it's really about owning a piece of history! Think of how when OPI re-released Damone Roberts. It wasn't that special but you bet thousands of us picked up the re-release!

    2. Looks like it came out in 1997 when I was 10 years old, so yes I was not a polish junkie quite yet! haha. Knowing me I may just get it anyway! >_< I like the gold design on the packaging :)

    3. I feel like it's a little overrated too... but I can see people thinking the same thing about my beloved Pacific Blue

  5. I'm excited for SSN to come back. I thought I read that this version is not made with diamond dust like the original but I have to believe that Essie would not re-release it without doing it justice.

  6. This is a gorgeous shade, and I had heard about Essie bringing back retired shades, but I think I would have been more excited to see "Shine of the Times". Love that top coat, and it looks different on any nail color.

  9. OMGoodness; so excited. I'm a little late to nail polish collecting, but Essie's "SSN" was what started me on this obsession, and now, 500+ bottles later I still don't have this coveted polish. I can't wait for the release!! OK, OPI, I'm challenging you to bring back the original My Private Jet and Mad as a Hatter!

  10. To those who say those who spent money or did a lot of work to get originals are going to be mad, let me tell ya...
If it was not for the people who blogged about their searches, the obsessions to still own it and those who paid big bucks for it all these years later... the company would not have a reason to do re-do this. So I am thankful to them.
I have 3 bottles of the original and while I did not pay Ebay prices I paid. In gas money, time searching dustys and even to get them from others. It was the beginning of my polish obsession and I am happy to own a piece of polish history.
When I called the company during my desperate search I was told that the "recipe" for that polish was not part of the sale and therefore they can not just remake it. So I am hoping they figured it out becuase I've always said, if I had it my way every girl on the planet would have a bottle of this amazing little potion for their own.
I can't wait to compare it to the original and to see if the wait is over for those who still didn't get the chance to have a bottle.
So a long time SSN owner here who REALLY REALLY want this to be done right and really wants everyone to get a chance at it.
