Spotted: NEW Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil

Another one? Yep! In addition to the new Simple Cleansing Oil and Burt's Bees Cleansing Oil, we've got another new cleansing oil now hitting drugstore shelves. It's a wonderful time to be a cleansing oil fan, right?

Many thanks to reader @cosmetic_cult on Instagram for this one. She spotted the new Neutrogena Cleansing Oil at her local Target today and kindly shared some pics:

NEW Neutrogena Ultra light Cleansing Oil
(retail: $8.99 at Target; 4.0 oz.)

I'm not sure why the One Step Gentle Cleanser still has "new" printed on the bottle, but it's definitely not new (I remember reading Krissy's review back in 2012).

Anyway, keep reading for more pics and info about this new cleansing oil!

This is a smaller bottle than some other cleansing oils out there, but it's pretty close to the Garnier Cleansing Oil, which is 4.2 oz. for about the same price (I paid $8.49 for the Garnier).

As you can see, this is called an "ultra light" formula and claims to "effortlessly and completely" remove makeup and even waterproof mascara while rinsing clean and not stripping the skin. I'm definitely liking those claims.

I know that some of you are going to be sad to see mineral oil as the first ingredient. I'm not opposed to mineral oil in products (I've been using products containing mineral oil for a long time and many of them work well for me), but I actually haven't had good experiences with cleansing oils that contain mineral oil. I've tried about a half dozen Japanese and Korean cleansing oils that contain mineral oil, and none of them have really worked for me. The Garnier cleansing oil also contains mineral oil, and that didn't work for me either. I just seem to always feel some oily residue lingering on my skin when I use a cleansing oil with mineral oil, which is a no-no for my oily skin. Also I find that not all of my eye makeup removes as easily as with other cleansing oils that don't contain mineral oil.

Sorry to ramble about that! At any rate, I will certainly be giving this a shot when I find it. Perhaps this one will be different, right? There are some popular, high-end cleansing oils out there that contain mineral oil (Shu Uemura comes to mind) and many people seem to like those, so I'm keeping an open mind about this one. What about you? Are you open to trying this one when you see it in stores?

By the way, thanks to reader Stevee for letting us know that this Neutrogena cleansing oil is now available for purchase on the Ulta website HERE, in case you're anxious to get it and you can't find it locally yet.

Thanks again, @cosmetic_cult, for the great sighting and pics. I really appreciate it!

  1. I do love the Boscia cleansing oil, and also have the Garnier and Eclos (Freeman product line) that I like too. I will pick up these others mentioned in this post as I see them, maybe I will love one of them! I just prefer the concept, I don't really want to have to soap up with something sudsy, or use wipes all the time. I did like the St Ives creamy makeup remover in a tube....But the oil works pretty nicely on eye makeup...good to have lots of options, for oils and other types of makeup removal :)

  2. I looooove the Eclos oil-- I'm on my 5th or 6th bottle. And while I'm all for this cleansing oil renaissance, I definitely can't see my Eclos being dethroned by something that has mineral oil as the *first ingredient* and apparently the *only oil* in there? I don't think I'll even attempt it.

  3. Hey at least this is reasonably priced unlike the Burt's Bees version. I imagine this is similar to the Garnier one which I really like. I might try this if I have a coupon but come to think of it, I rarely see Neutrogena coupons.

  4. Thanks for showing the ingredient picture. It has mineral oil in it.. So I will pass. I still think the Eclos cleasing oil (which you reviewed) is the best cleansing around..

    1. I can't wait for that too. They always provide coupons as well. I have a back stock of probably 10 of the simple micellular water

  7. I use the Micellular lotion after using any cleansing oil and there is so much residue left

  8. I'm so sad to see mineral oil as the top ingredient. Have you ever tried Origins cleansing oil? The ingredients are awesome, olive oil..safflower seed oil ,etc. It's a top fav of mine, although it is not drugstore.

  9. If this works as good as Garnier I will switch. The Garnier leaks all over my medicine cabinet. Such a waste and mess

  10. Hey, G, have you checked out the Nuance Salma Hayek Cleansing Oil? It's available, at CVS. It's a nice oil and it rinses clean away, like the DHC. I've also got oily skin and I've been using it about a week now.... I really like it, and my skin seems to like it. So, until DHC oil is easier to come by (or cheaper) the Salma Hayek one might be worth looking into.

    1. Hi have the Salma Hayek one, and for some reason I cannot get it to rinse clean. Maybe I got a bad one. Still looking for a dhc dupe.

  11. Mineral oil is a deal breaker for me. It doesn't rinse off no matter how much you try or how got the water. With DHC you rinse with warm water and your skin is clean and moisturized. Don't even waste your money if it has mineral oil.
