The Lipstick Question of the Week:
Have any of your favorite fragrances been discontinued? If you had the ability to bring back any discontinued fragrances, what would they be?
G's answer: I have two, so this is going to be kind of long.
1) Kors Michael Kors. Released in 2003 and discontinued just a few years later, never to return (although there's a small cult of us who still keep hoping that it will). This perfume was the epitome of sexy. It was described as "a delicious red scent of sheer port wine and cognac, layered with sensuous rose petals and exotic spices." But to me, it was pure red wine, leather and roses. It was my signature nighttime scent, and I still have about an inch left of my last bottle, which I don't use--I just sniff it lovingly every now and again. I have yet to find anything even remotely close to this fragrance.
2) Fresh Mukki. I love just about every fragrance from Fresh, but Mukki was really something special. It came out in 1996 and was only around for a few years. The bottle looked like an old-school glass milk bottle with a little spotted cow on the front. The notes were "Gentle peach, honeydew, cucumber, violet, caramel, linden, vanilla, musk, tuberose." Basically every note I love. It was such a milky, creamy scent, and also slightly powdery and floral. The closest I've come to a replacement is Diesel Plus Plus Feminine (which you can get for like $15 on Amazon--just FYI in case you love these types of fragrances), which is also a sweet, milky, powdery, floral, but it's not quite the same.

Lady Stetson. It's my husbands favorite scent and the only thing I wore for ten years. I hit the jackpot last Christmas and found small 0.5 oz bottles at Walmart in the "stocking stuffer" area for $3, which was very surprising since it was discontinued about three years ago.. bought 20 of them.
ReplyDeleteMagnolia Blossom by Bath and Body Works. It got discontinued a few years ago, and I am almost through my stash :( prices for it on EBay are insane!
ReplyDeleteG, have you checked fragrance.net?
ReplyDeleteYes I have many...Realm the original one in the red box, Dolce & Gabbana the original one in the red box, Adrienne Vittadini the original one in the yellow box, and Baby Phat Seductive Goddess.ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
ReplyDeleteNone. I can't wear fragrance anymore due to migraines. But I still have my bottle of Perry Ellis because I loved it and it cost the equivalent of 8 hours pay!
ReplyDeleteI loved True Love from Elizabeth Arden. It make me feel so feminine when I wore it. I also loved Charlie Oriental. I feel fortunate that most of the fragrances I love are still around (Red Door, Tabu, etc.).
ReplyDeleteHmm. I just looked up True Love online and apparently it is available at Target!?! Weird that a cosmetics associate at a froufrou store told me it discontinued years ago.
ReplyDeleteI loved Christian Dior dolce vita, and it was discontinued around 2003, but it was amazing; vanilla, sandalwood, cinnamon and peach!!! Also, Aramis New West-if I could even find an "our version"I would be so happy-it smells like Watermelon!!
ReplyDeleteAbsynthe by Christian lacroix, sold by avon. I miss it and I am on my 3rd bottle and it's almost gone!
ReplyDeleteOmg I loooovvved that Michael kors perfume! I've never found anything even remotely close to it. That and Lacoste Inspiration were two of my go to scents in my early 20's.
ReplyDeleteThis is going back many, many years but I have to say Sheer Scent by Ultima II. There was something to that particular scent that I have never smelled since. Every once in awhile I'll get a whiff of something that reminds me of it but nothing has ever been able to duplicate that wonderful scent.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's anything discontinued that I'm pining for. I have to laugh at Waymire's comment, because I found Emeraude at Walgreen's after the holidays and picked up a ton of it on clearance. I used to love it and was happy to rediscover it. I mainly worry that someone will get stupid and tinker with my favorites -- Chanel No. 5 and Shalimar. I know they did a newer version of Shalimar, which I haven't tried, but it makes me fearful that they'll scrap the original.
ReplyDeleteI too love Shalimar and received a sample of the new version in my Birchbox. I didn't really care for it much, but I wouldn't worry about them getting rid of such a classic that is loved by many generations. I think they were trying to appeal to a younger crowd that would dismiss the original as "old timey." Maybe just trying to update or modernize it?...no need to tamper with a classic imo, better to release a brand new frag with a brand new name.
DeleteOne scent I just loved was Tuxedo, by Ralph Lauren. I'd love to have it again!
ReplyDeleteI have 2 from Bath and Body Works-Be Enchanted and Secret Wonderland. I know I can get a few of them from the website, but it's not the same...
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about this one frag a lot this winter...Yves Rocher Ode de Reve or as I called it (the blue Ode.) I do see it on ebay, but would never shell out big $$$ on something that I used to get for sooo cheap on sale back then. I really loved them all lamour (pink), joie (yellow), vie (green), but the blue was my fav. There are a few YR disco'd frags I miss but cannot recall the names w/out looking them up. One was Natures Millionaire or something like that with a brown glass bottle with leaf like etchings, and another in a slender green bottle that had no cap but a built in spray nozzle at the top. I'll have to check out fragrantica and come back to give the name...driving me nuts that I cannot remember as I went through 3 bottles of the stuff, lol!
ReplyDeleteMiss Dior Cherie, the 2004 version, when it was first released, Riley Keough was the face of the perfume. I actually regret not buying it back then, I was a poor student back then, well I'm still am haha, it was very expensive, like $100, so I would always go to the department store and spray it....stingy. They reformulated it in 2011, with Natalie Portman as the face, but it's just not the same anymore. It now just smells like every other crowded sweet perfume on the market. I think the reformulation has got to do with John Galliano infamous racial outburst, shortly after that, the company did a whole restructure, new designer new everything.
ReplyDeleteBath and body works exotic coconut perfume...I wear that perfume literally all summer (I only have half a bottle left, but it's so old I don't mind enjoying it because I'd hate for it to go bad) but it's a sexy coconut that I can still smell in my hair for like 2 days after I used it. Even the bottles sexy!
ReplyDeleteSorry I'm late posting here, but I forgot to come back...
ReplyDeleteI've had to frags get discontinued on me. The first was Anne Klein II. Amber lovely scent I took from my mother, then bought bottle after bottle. I called it my own secret potion when anyone would ask what I was wearing... and boy did people ask. When I was out I looked for more but all bottles were gone. I was devastated.
The second was Sonja Rykiel. My love. I found a bottle in a mall kiosk and cherish it. Its the Ralph deal. The bottle I had before that was counterfeit, bought online from a major frag seller. Now I only buy from Dept store or Marshalls/TJ Maxx and the like.
Another is L by Lolita Lempicka, but I have 2 bottles and I dont love it like I so the other 2.
