After I posted about that deal, I decided to order this new lip balm myself, as well as a few other new Spring 2015 items. So today I'd like to share with you what I got, and give you my quick opinions of everything so far.
My small BBW Spring 2015 haul
Keep reading for my thoughts about these new Spring 2015 products...
First let's start with the lip balm:
As you can see, this lip balm comes safety-sealed.
Bath & Body Works Honolulu Sun Coconut Lip Balm
(retail: $5.50; 0.15 oz)
Again, I can't link to the listing for this item since it's no longer on the BBW site (as of the time of this post). Hopefully it will be up again soon.
I can't remember the last lip balm I owned from BBW. Glosses? Sure. But lip balms? I just can't recall! Anyway, I didn't know what to expect with this one, since coconut lip balms can go either way with me, but I was very pleasantly surprised with the flavor, fragrance and texture of this balm.
To me, this smells more like coconut cream pie (minus the buttery crust--think of just the filling) than actual, real coconuts. That's fine by me, since I love me some coconut cream pie! This is very "desserty" in both fragrance and flavor, and I would consider both the fragrance and flavor to be in the medium range (not super strong but also not weak).
The texture is what really surprised me though. This balm is suprisingly creamy. It's not super waxy and it's not super greasy--it really just feels creamy on my lips. It's thick-feeling, but in a good way, if that makes sense. It lasts quite a long time for me--about four hours before I feel the need to reapply. So far so good with this one.
The only complaint I have is that I don't think it's worth $5.50. I got it at the special preview price of $3, and that feels perfect to me. So hopefully you can catch this on sale (or have coupons) to drive the price down a bit.
Bath & Body Works Aloe Gel Lotion in Hawaii Passionfruit Kiss
(retail: $5, 2 oz)
This was another preview item (still available here), but it is now also available in full-size. The entire Aloe Gel line is now available here.
From the BBW site:
Get swept away to paradise! Our luxuriously lightweight, ultra-refreshing formula with soothing Aloe and nourishing Coconut & Monoi Oils absorbs quickly, leaving a silky smooth finish.
Top Notes: Strawberry Guava, Kona Mountain Apple, Lush Kiwi
Mid Notes: Pink Hibiscus, Hawaiian Red Pineapple, Exotic Heliconia, Papaya Blossom
Dry Notes: Coral Sands Accord, Creamy Macadamia, Skin Musk
Notice anything about the notes? NO PASSION FRUIT! Weird, right? I totally missed that when I was placing my order.
Aside from there being no passion fruit note listed in this fragrance, another disappointment for me was the high level of fragrance. Looking above, you can see that fragrance is the forth item in a long list of ingredients. There is more fragrance in this product than actual aloe, even though aloe is in the name of the product. But more on that in a second.
As for the texture, this is a gel that's similar in look and feel to The Body Shop's Body Sorbets, which I reviewed HERE. But unlike The Body Shop's version, this product doesn't have that slightly sticky/tacky feel to it when dries down--it feels more slick and it has some slip to it once it absorbs. I actually like how slippery it feels on my skin, and I think it delivers slightly more hydration than The Body Shop's version (FYI, aloe is listed higher up in the ingredients in the BBW version).
My one major complaint here is the fragrance. Now you know that I love highly-scented bath and body products. But this one is even too much for ME. It knocked my socks off the first time I used it on my hands, and I'm still hesitant to apply it all over my body, since the fragrance is just so, so strong. But if you like a very strong fragrance, then this could be a dream product for you. Layering it with the other products in this line would, I'm guessing, get you through the entire day, no problem.
Perhaps if I loved the fragrance, this wouldn't be so bad. But I was really hoping for a lovely passion fruit fragrance, which I don't think was an unrealistic hope considering that the name is "Passionfruit Kiss". To my nose, this is a fairly generic "tropical fruit and flower" scent and I'm just not getting anything unique or noteworthy here.
Bath & Body Works PocketBacs in Maui Mango Mai Tai and Lush Bamboo Waterfall
(retail: $1.75 or 5 for $5; 1 oz)
You can purchase both of these new Pocketbacs HERE.
I purchased five of these (too easy to do since they're always 5 for $5) but I'm just showing you these two since they're the only new Spring 2015 scents I purchased.
They're both fun, but Lush Bamboo Waterfall is my favorite of the two. It's crisp and clean, but also a tiny bit fruity. It's the kind of Pocketbac that I can hand to Mr. G without him wincing and saying that I'm making him smell like "cupcakes and rainbows and sprinkles and unicorns" (that's a direct quote, by the way). It's not completely unisex to me, because there is a bit of tart fruit going on in the background, but it's unisex-ish. If you like fresh, clean scents that have a slight feminine feel to them, then you'll probably love this.
Maui Mango Mai Tai doesn't quite smell like mango OR a Mai Tai to me, but it does smell like fresh orange juice and coconut. Honestly, that's all I get with this scent: OJ and coconut. Fun, but nothing terribly special.
I hope this helps those of you who might have your eye on some of these new Spring 2015 products from BBW. I'd say the one product I love the most here is the lip balm, so I sure hope that it's back up on the BBW site soon. If you've seen it in-store recently, I would love to hear from you!

the lip balm seem to smell delicious!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the lip balm! It's still available at my local store (as of yesterday), and I am considering buying another one because I like it so much. I also bought the mini aloe lotion but in Waikiki Coconut. I love the formula, and I think I'll store it in the fridge this summer for a cold treat for my skin on hot days. The scent is strong, but I'm pretty sensitive to highly scented body products and I don't think it's too overwhelming...maybe just the Passionfruit one is extra strong?
ReplyDeleteWe must have bought from different batches because I am EXTREMELY sensitive to sting smells and I can barely smell my Passionfruit Aloe Gel (blahblahblah long name) at all!
ReplyDeleteAnd lol at the "there's no Passionfruit in this Passionfruit lotion... I don't think that's too much to hope for." I honestly didn't even notice! Very strange.
I think the passionfruit aloe gel lotion will be perfect to the summer, when you're tanning at the beach or by the pool.
