Review: Lush Limited Edition Valentine's Day 2015 Collection (Unicorns and Hearts and Candy! Oh My!)

I recently received some of the Lush Limited Edition Valentine's Day 2015 collection products for review, and I wanted to get this review up as quickly as possible while everything is still in stock and avaialble for purchase online or at your local Lush store (Lush limited edition items go quickly though, so don't wait too long if you're interested in anything here!).

There are some adorable new offerings for Valentine's 2015--keep reading for lots of eye candy (and real candy, too).

The three items I received for review are among the most affordable in the Valentine's Day 2015 Collection (because you know that's how I roll!). You can view the entire collection HERE, and here are the prices of the items featured in this post:

Cupid's Love Soap - $6.95
Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar - $7.95
The Kiss Lip Scrub - $9.95

So let's begin with the lip scrub:

The Kiss Lip Scrub

The Kiss Lip Scrub is new for Valentine's 2015, and it features the same type of little edible hearts as the Santa Lip Scrub from the holidays. It also contains edible candy sprinkles, sugar, sea salt and cocoa butter.

Thanks, Madu!

Is this not the cutest lip scrub ever?

I scooped a bit out so that you could see exactly what's going on here:

The edible hearts are very thin and they dissolve quickly, so it's not like you'll be trying to rub a big ol' red hot type of candy on your lips. Honestly, I don't even notice the hearts when I'm using this product. Also, the cake sprinkles appear to be more of a topper and don't seem to run through the entire pot--the hearts are definitely not a topper though. I can see them running through the entire scrub.

I absolutely love this scrub. A tiny bit goes a long way, and one pot will last you forever because the product is packed quite densely into the jar (and you literally only need the equivalent of 1/2 of a pea per application). There's something about the fragrance of Lush's lip scrubs that really appeals to me (I adore the Bubblegum one from the core line, as well). The Kiss both smells and tastes delicious. The scent is like sweet marshmallow candy, with a tiny bit of a floral note in the background. The flavor is also like candy but I love that, because of the sea salt, there's both sweet and salty notes here. Very much like salt water taffy.

If you've never tried a Lush lip scrub before, you're in for a real treat. The granules are fine, but they really do their job nicely. I rub just a tiny bit on both lips with my finger and I keep rubbing until the crystals are almost completely dissolved. Then, I lick my lips to clean them (which you are encouraged to do, per Lush), and voilĂ ! My lips are silky-soft and ready for a nice matte lipstick or any other lip color that requires a good exfoliation first.

Cupid's Love Soap

Other side

Cupid's Love is not new for Valentine's Day 2015--it originally released as part of the limited edition Valentine's Day 2014 collection, but it went by the name Neon Love in 2014. Either way, it's back again for Valentine's Day 2015.

This soap smells like cinnamon candy, but there's something else going on that makes it a bit more interesting than just plain cinnamon. There's passion fruit juice, soy yogurt and fresh figs in this soap, and there are bergamot and rosewood oils as well, in addition to the cinnamon leaf oil. Altogether, I get a complex, fruity, cinnamon scent that sometimes smells almost like a bakery type of fragrance to my nose (think cinnamon cookies), while at other times I get a nice whiff of the fig and rosewod, which gives this soap a fruity and herbal quality. It's not just straight-up cinnamon...it's more like an adult cinnamon fragrance, if that makes sense. I personally love it, but I do think you probably have to love cinnamon to fully enjoy this one.

As for the lather, this soap doesn't produce light, airy bubbles. It's more of a creamy soap, so the lather is lower and more dense than some other Lush soaps I've owned. It's almost like a shaving bar to me (by the way, I love it for shaving my legs). My skin feels very soft and smooth after I use this soap, and the scent lingers on my skin for a little while after I'm out of the shower.

Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar

Shimmery luster and candy stars!

Ever wonder what the inside of a unicorn horn looks like?

Unicorn Horn has got to be the cutest bubble bar I've ever seen from Lush. I mean, what's not to love about this? From the rainbow of colors to the shimmery luster to the (real) candy stars...this is cuteness-overload from top to bottom.

Unicorn Horn released in Japan last year, and it is finally available here in the US for Valentine's Day 2015. I wouldn't hesitate to grab it if you're interested, because I have a feeling it will go quickly. Each "horn" is handmade and no two horns are alike (if you google pics of this bubble bar, you'll see that some look dramatically different than mine).

I've heard that the fragrance is very simliar to the Christmas Hedgehog Bubble Bar from the holidays, although I can't personally confirm that since I never tried the Christmas Hedgehog. To me, Unicorn Horn is a lavender-based fragrance but it is not a heavy, strong lavender fragrance. If you're a longtime reader, then you know that I don't generally like lavender fragrances (they have to be blended with other things) and I really love this one. It's a creamy fragrance, and I get a nice whiff of ylang ylang here, which gives it an almost ethereal quality. I don't quite know how to describe this one, but even if you don't generally go for lavender-scented products, you might enjoy this quite a bit. The lavender takes more of a supporting role here, allowing the creamy and floral notes to really sing. I don't know what I expected a unicorn horn to smell like, but this seems quite fitting to me.

As with most Lush bubble bars, I can get three uses from this one bar. Depending on the size of your tub, you may only get two uses, but if you have a smaller tub (which I do), you will probably get three uses unless you like A LOT of bubbles in your bath. If that's the case, just break it in half for two baths. And be sure you hold your bubble bar directly under running water to product the most bubbles possible.

I thought you might like to see what 1/3 of the Unicorn Horn looks like dissolved into my bath. In the photo above, you can see one tiny green candy star floating in the water. It's so fun to sit in the bath and occasionally see a little candy star floating by!

It's hard to see in my pics, but this bubble bar leaves a beautiful, shimmery sheen in the water--it's almost irridescent in real life. And of course, let's talk about the water:

As you can see, Unicorn Horn turns my bath water this fun, purple-ish pink color. I really wish I had smell-o-vision to convey how lovely this smells in the bath. I feel like it's a scent that all ages would enjoy. It's creamy and floral...and a bit mysterious (just like a unicorn). I'm doing a horrible job at trying to describe it but all I know is that I'm happy that the scent lingers on my skin for over an hour after my bath. Also, this bubble bar makes my skin feel soft and silky, but not greasy or sticky.

And just for perspective, this is what my Unicorn Horn looked like after one use. I easily got three uses from one horn but, again, I have a small bathtub so your mileage may vary.

FINAL VERDICT: These Lush Valentine's Day 2015 products are some of my favorites when it comes to Lush's limited edition collections (seriously, they rank right up there with my beloved Rose Jam body wash from Holiday 2013). If I could only pick one item from the three I reviewed here for you today, it would be The Kiss Lip Scrub because that will last you a very long time. But if you have room in your budget and you like bar soaps and bubble baths, I would defintely consider Cupid's Love and Unicorn Horn (with extra emphasis on Unicorn Horn because it's just so ridiculously adorable). Lush really knocked it out of the park with these goodies and if you're interested in anything, don't wait. This collection is only around for Valentine's Day and things are already starting to sell out online.

  2. I've been sitting here all night trying to resist doing anymore online shopping (I was one second away from clicking checkout on a $50 colour pop order) and then I see this. But it's limited edition so I have to do it right?! I got myself 2 lip scrubs and a small bottle of pomegrante vanilla body wash. My justification is its not $50, just $35.

    1. Lol! You kind of "have" to! ;) Please let me know what you think of the lip scrub when you get it? I'd also like to know what you think of the body wash--I have my eye on that one too!

    2. Of course! I've never ordered anything from lush before, but I've spent months talking myself out of buying a lip scrub from them (my elf one isn't quite low enough to really need a new one, plus none of the other flavors really struck my fancy), but this one sounds amazing. And I'm a sucker for anything pomegrante and/or vanilla, so there was no way I could even pretend to say I didn't need it ;)

    1. Agreed! They are so fun. I'm more of a shower girl, but I make exception when it comes to Lush bubble bars. :)

  4. Omg! The unicorn bubble bath makes me think of the scene in Harry Potter where he used the prefect's bath to figure out the Triwizard clue.. It's one of my favorite parts of the whole series because I van just imagine how fun and luxurious the warm and sparkling bubbles are!! Except now I don't have to imagine because these unicorn bars look like they do the same :) thank you for sharing what it looks like with water, now I totally need to hunt this down!!

    1. Oh how fun! Would you believe I've never read any of the HP books or seen the movies? I know, I know... But anyway, thank you so much for sharing that, and I hope you enjoy it if you get it! :)

  5. I literally planned in my calendar to hit up lush when they released it in stores January 16. They were already low on horns. Now I feel I have to go back for the lip scrub. Not sure why I passed on it

  6. I just placed my first ever Lush order! Those scrubs sounded amazing, so I obviously ordered 2. ( I wanted to get more, but the bottom of the container said expire a little over a year). I also had to get two of the horns. I'm being pleased that my cart went from $75 to $35. Self control lady, sent control.....

  7. Oh, have mercy! I have to get that unicorn horn, and the lipscrub. I only once ever bought a lipscrub (Lush Bubblegum, you're right G. soooo yum) bc I feel it is so much cheaper to make it at home, but I will make an exeption for this one...it is beautiful! I never smelled Prince Charming body wash, but would like to pick it up if I like the scent. Always loved their knot warps too, love that Lovebird design! Gotta say G., love the 2nd tub pic, the water looks ombre pinky/purple and I totally see the irridescence

  9. I love all of the above as well. Luckily I was able to get the unicorn horn and lip scrub, and Im super excited for them to arrive.
For those who love bubble bars, I'd like to share a tip on how I get TONS of bubbles from just 1 small piece of a large bubble bar or half of a medium sized bubble bar. I bought myself a large (too large actually, I couid have purchased a smaller one and been just fine) stainless steal Tea Ball. They're like those metal cages one uses to brew tea. I bought the 4" size off Amazon for approx $9-$10, and I think the 3" would be a better size and better price. Anyways, you place your piece of bubble bar inside the tea ball and lock it. Then you hang your tea ball from the bath tub's water spout (they usually have a small stick up top for switching from the shower head to the bottom spout). If yours doesn't have that on top of the spout, like mine, no worries. To fix that, I simply and carefully positioned a command strip hook using the tea ball's extending chain as a guide to where I needed to place the command strip for the tea ball to land directly under the water stream. Try this and you'll truly enjoy bubble bars 100% more than you do now, trust me, plus you'll get more mileage out of them too.
I'm not sure if I am allowed to include a link to a picture of what the tea ball looks like??? I'll include the link and if not allowed, remove and I totally understand. Link: http://www.amazon.com/Extra-Large-Jumbo-Size-Twist-Lock-Infuser-Stainless/dp/B004X4LGIO

Either way, I hope this helps some of your readers maximize their bubble bars, and bubble bath experience. Thanks for this review!

PS: I don't work for any company that sells tea balls, nor Amazon, nor any company related to anything about my comment above. I'm not trying to push the purchase of anything on anyone. Just sharing a major "game changer" in my bubble bath experience. Thanks!
