The Lipstick League - week of 9.1.14

The Lipstick League Question of the Week

How much is too much to pay for a lipstick?

G's answer: You're probably going to assume that I'd say anything over $10 is too much. And in most cases, you would be absolutely correct. BUT, sometimes there are certain shades and/or formulas that are so beautiful, they can be worth the extra money. But even then, I have my limits. For me personally, there's just zero room in my budget for spending $40 for one tube of lipstick plus another $25 for the holder. Oh, my wallet aches just thinking about it.

  1. I'm really picky about lipstick, so if I found a color I love in a formula that lasts all day, doesn't transfer, and feels comfortable I would pay dearly for it. Of my current favorites the highest is $14, the cheapest is $5.

  2. Oh my good Gawd, that price is absolutely absurd!! How stupid.

  3. Very rarely I'll splurge on something at Sephora, maybe $16, but mostly I cap it off at $9.99 drugstore retail and wait for a good sale or coupon. I have so many lipsticks, glosses and tinted balms that I feel odd spending big money on something that might never get used up.

  4. I agree that there are certain colors and formulas that warrant a higher price tag, my makeup in general is a mix of drugstore, mid range and a few high end pieces. At a certain point though (like the $40 lipstick) I feel like I'm paying for a name rather than a product.

  5. I don't think I've ever spent more than ~$30, and that was a long time ago, before I was a grown up with bills to pay. Now, I will occasionally splurge on a Lipstick Queen or MAC, but it's usually Maybelline or Revlon.
