I'm back with weekly wrap-ups and I want to thank you all for your patience while I was away! I also want to mention that I've added another feature to the weekly wrap-up, for your convenience. Since we talk about beauty deals at Ulta and Target quite a bit here, I thought it would make sense to include links to their current ads in my weekly wrap-ups, so that everything is all in one place. Those links have been added to the bottom of this page. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for doing this! I always get the scoop here with you :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have a question. I've used two Sally Hansen products - Hard as Nails Strengthener (as a basecoat) and the Advanced Hard as Nails top coat. Used them seperately, not together. Each one caused my nail polish to peel off within a day. I'm guessing that it's my own nail chemistry that clashed with them, but do you think this would happen with just Hard as Nail polishes or all SH products? Thanks!
I have to give my two cents here because I have never had great luck with the Hard as Nails line either - I bought the Diamond Strength nail hardener & it peeled off my nails in a similar way. BUT, I have a lot of luck if I use the Insta-Grip base coat and the Insta-Dry top coat together. I also love the Salon Manicure nail polishes and they seem to stay on my nails just fine. I honestly think it's just the nail hardeners! I never had an issue with them when I was younger, but my nails reject that kind of polish pretty much immediately these days, it's so weird!
DeleteThank you, Dani! You answered my question - if there was something different about this particular line. I think I might give the Insta-Dry top coat a chance, or maybe a Revlon one, since I definitely need a new one. Kinda bums me out though. I really wanted to try Xtreme Wear polishes, but they probably won't work out for me either. Sigh.
DeleteFWIW, I use Milani Smoothe base coat and NYC Grand Central Station quick dry top coat. I routinely get manicures to go one week and sometimes two and I don't coddle my nails. This combo has worked for everything from Chinese toxic waste polish to Zoya...as well as every SH on the market.
DeleteI never was too impressed with SH nail hardeners, either. I think it does have something to do with chemistry. I have much better luck with using basecoats from other brands like Revlon or Milani and then using the top coat by NYC. Biggest difference for me was when I made sure my nails were bone dry before polishing (no lotions beforehand, etc.) I can even get good wear out of dark polishes, which I never used to be able to.
DeleteI was using GCS, but it became goopy halfway through the first bottle. The second bottle was really runny and just wasn't ideal. Maybe I was unlucky enough to get 2 bad batches, so today I picked up Nina Ultra Pro Super Dry Top Coat at Sally's. Hopefully it works better.
DeleteIn my experience, the Hard as Nails polishes have stayed on my nails for days with the Revlon Base Coat (discontinued by still available at some locations) and the Orly Border base coat. I have used the Seche Vite, NYC In a New York minute and Out the Door as top coats. Good Luck!
DeleteGrand Central Station, not New York minute, sorry :)
DeleteHi, G. Just wanted to say how happy I am to be reading your posts again. I hope your Dad is on his way to getting better!
