NEW Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Rapid Moisture Spray Lotion
(retail: around $6, 7.0 oz)
The nozzle locks when you twist it...
Now I know that some of you have expressed your distaste for spray lotions and I'm not here to write an "In Defense of Spray Lotions" type of post to try and win you over. But I would like to mention some things that I actually really like about spray lotions (I've used others besides this one, so I have some experience with them!).
First of all, I do actually find them quicker and easier to apply than traditional lotions. You can spray a "strip" from shoulder to wrist in literally a second and, because a spray lotion has a thinner consistency than most traditional lotions, it absorbs more quickly, which means you can rub it into your skin more quickly. Same goes for my legs--I can spray this from my upper thigh down to my ankle in about two seconds, quickly rub it in and I'm DONE. So if you're pressed for time and just need some quick hydration before you head out the door, this is a very convenient alternative to traditional lotions.
As for the mess that some spray lotions can leave behind (on rugs, tile, etc.), I don't find that to be an issue if you use this product as directed. The "fallout" really occurs when you hold the can far away from your skin. If you follow the directions printed on the packaging and "hold the can 3-4 inches away from skin" when spraying, it pretty much eliminates any product from floating on to the floor. So just remember, the farther away you hold the can, the more prone you'll be to having a slick floor.
I actually prefer to hold the can about two inches away from my skin, so that the product looks like this when I spray it:
I find that I get a more concentrated amount this way, which is nice for targeted areas like my elbows and knees.
Texture and consistency: The consistency of this product is thin, but not watery. As mentioned above, it is incredibly easy to rub into the skin and it absorbs very quickly as well. The texture is light and it's not greasy, sticky, oily or waxy after it's been absorbed into the skin. A few minutes after rubbing this product into my skin, my skin just feels soft and I only detect the very lightest of coatings left behind.
Hydration and staying power: I haven't had the best of luck with spray lotions when it comes to serious hydration or lasting-power, but I was very pleasantly surprised by this product. I don't get "24 hour moisture" but I do get a full 12 hours of hydration when I use this product. I can apply it at 7AM and I can still feel some light hydration by 7PM, which is unusual for me and spray lotions, which usually only last about 4-6 hours on my skin.
Fragrance: Just like other Palmer's products, this product smells like cocoa butter, with a distinct chocolate note. It doesn't smell like a candy bar though--it's more of a "natural" cocoa scent. I personally love it (and so does my entire family, actually) but if you are sensitive to fragrance or just don't like the scent of cocoa butter, please note that it's a medium-strong fragrance that does last for a few hours on the skin.
One more thing: I took this over to my parents' house the other day while my brother was there and let me tell you, my mom and dad (in their 70s) and my brother (in his 30s) all went crazy for it. My dad and brother NEVER get excited when I try to get them to try new lotions and potions, but they both said, "G, when you're done testing this, can I have it?" The men in my family don't like sticky, heavy or greasy products, and they both loved the way this product felt on their forearms as well as the convenience of the spray. And my entire family loved the smell! So just a heads-up: if you buy this for yourself, don't be surprised if others in your family steal it from you!
FINAL VERDICT: If you're new to spray lotions or you have been disappointed by other spray lotions in the past, I think you might want to consider giving this one a shot. I find that the hydration is better, and more lasting, than other spray lotions I've used, and I love the convenience of being able to apply this to my entire body in literally just a few seconds. Plus, I adore the cocoa butter scent! Now, will this take the place of my traditional lotions? No. But for those times when I'm in a hurry and I don't need extreme moisturization, this is a product I will definitely reach for and I will most definitely make a purchase when I run out.
Have you tried the new Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Rapid Moisture Spray Lotion yet? I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks for this post, will be on lookout for this, loving Palmers stuff and it is thanks to you :)
ReplyDeleteI use the Vaseline version at the gym in the mornings or on my lunch break and it is great for quick application - just what you need when you're in a hurry!
ReplyDeleteLove love love that it is paraben free :)
ReplyDeleteI keep wanting to try these, and one that's more natural smelling is appealing.
ReplyDeleteJust FYI, you have probably seen that Vaseline has two different fragrances/styles of the spray lotion for MEN!
ReplyDeleteI have tried the original lotion version of this, and I did like it, but it took too long to rub in. I had to work at it! But the smell and moisturizing benefits were great... I really want to try this version... seems perfect and light for summer! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI usually don't like spray products because they usually contain a debilitating amount of alcohol
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review, G! I'll check this out next time I'm looking for a spray lotion. I usually save my Vaseline spray lotion for use the summer, when the cooling effect of the spray is especially refreshing!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I am so buying this!! I love shea butter and cocoa butter!!
ReplyDeleteI finally found this product after looking at CVS and Target. Walmart had a few bottles with $2 off coupons attached. I have to say that I found your review to be similar to my experience. Palmer's Spray Lotion is great because there is not much overspray, it soaks in quickly and really moisturizes. I also agree with you about holding the can a little closer about 2 in from my skin.
