Are there any makeup application techniques that you never knew about before reading beauty blogs (or watching YouTube videos) that are now part of your daily routine?
Oh gosh, yes! Until I started blogging, I always, always, always applied my concealer BEFORE my foundation. But I remember a reader mentioning that she applied concealer AFTER foundation, and even though I was resistant to doing that (because the other method always worked for me), I've noticed over the years that some foundations and concealers definitely work better the other way around. If it weren't for blogging, I have no doubt that I would be stuck in my concealer-then-foundation formula forever. So thank you, dear reader, for mentioning that several years ago. It's hard to break out of ruts but the rewards can be tremendous!
Contour and highlight! What a difference they make to my face and until I really got into beauty blogs and YouTube videos, I never really paid attention to those concepts or techniques. Now, I never leave my house without doing both. :D
ReplyDeleteI NEVER used brushes for foundation before - just my fingers. Sometimes that works, but I definitely get a better application using a brush.
ReplyDeleteTwo techniques that changed my life...or at least made my nails look a LOT better:
ReplyDelete1. The acetone/paintbrush technique to clean up a manicure. So easy!
2. The foil method for removing glitters.
They're not exactly application techniques, but oh my, they have made such a difference!
Yes! Apply powder on your lashes before putting on your mascara so it (1) Builds volume and (2) Helps with the staying power
ReplyDeleteWHAT! I am trying this tomorrow.
DeleteMe too!
DeleteUsing a beauty blender to apply my foundation! It's now something I cannot live without.
ReplyDeleteUsing a salmon toned concealer to cancel out blueness, where to apply blush and highlight, gel eyeliner in general.
ReplyDeleteVideo bloggers... Elmer's glue all as nail base coat for glitter polish. It just peels off. I haven't used polish remover in ages!
ReplyDeleteEye shadow base.. always use it ... ELF
Here's one of my own... in summer I put eyeshadow primer on my eyebrows then put eyeshadow on my brows instead of pencil. This wayam it stays on much longer. In winter I skip the primer.
DeleteHere is my huge life changer that I figured out on my own with a little input from youtube...
DeleteUsing Tre Semme dry shampoo as a hair volumizer. Start off with dry freshly washed hair. Spray under hair lifted in sections, comb thru, then back comb and use a curling iron to flatten out ends.
Other brands don't work as good... so I'm stocking up... just in case it gets discontinued.
I love beauty tips and getting inspiration from others so if you have a tip I want to hear it!
Quite a few, but the biggest: eye primer/colored bases, MOM for oil control, tightlining, and the proper way to apply shadow to hooded eyes. Also not makeup but oil cleansing changed my life.
ReplyDeleteThat makes me really curious. What's so great about oil cleansing and what does it involve?
DeleteThe thought is oil dissolves oil without over drying the skin. It can also be nourishing. You use different types of oil blends based on you skin type. My favorite is olive oil blended with sweet almond oil and a few drops of chamomile and lavender oils (mixed together in a bottle).
DeleteAll of the above!
ReplyDeleteFor me is the less is more approach, only foundation or concealer where is needed and translucent or "veil" powder to set your makeup.
ReplyDeleteFrom watching Youtube, i now apply my BB cream twice, once all over the face, and a second time more like a concealer and use a kabuki brush to blend it in. This step makes a big difference.
ReplyDeleteBefore I started reading beauty blogs, I never wore much makeup. Because of my oily skin, it just wouldn't last. Primer was the first and best tip I picked up!

ReplyDeleteI feel silly for not having figured this out sooner: I now put on my eye makeup before I put on my foundation. So, thank you, bloggers!
ReplyDeleteStippling foundation with a flat top brush, using a foundation brush, tightlining, and how to apply highlight.
ReplyDeleteI learned about tightlining (and I LOVE it- can't imagine not doing it). Spraying hairspray on a tissue, and then blotting my eyes with it after I've applied my shadow. This is a fool-proof way to ensure my eye shadow stays on ALL DAY.
ReplyDeleteHmm... eyeshadow primer was not even a thing I'd heard about before hitting the beauty blog/Youtube world. I also invested in a lot more brushes, and I saw the benefit in using blush. I had always skipped it before, thinking that the pale goth thing suited me, but one day I realized I just looked haggard. I now have quite an impressive (and ever-growing) blush collection.
ReplyDeleteI get tons of stuff from blogs, mostly nail polish ideas and tips. I also like to go to blogs to see swatches of products and reviews. I love your taste, G., in nail polish colors and whatnot, so I find I like to hear your thoughts on items you're reviewing.
ReplyDeleteWow. There's some stuff here I learned today. Hmmm...what can I possibly add? Oh! Using more than one kind of mascara to get the effect you want...i.e. using a volumizing and then a lengthening or a waterproof formula as a top coat to keep things from smudging.
ReplyDeletebeautyQQ taught me how to stick my eyelash at the bottom of the lash (as in lash line) . works perfect EXCEPT for the removal...
ReplyDeleteThis is a great question, I love reading these answers. There is so much I've learned from blogs, I don't know where to start! One of my favorites is using a mascara guard ($1 on ebay) to avoid getting mascara on the lid.
ReplyDeleteEye shadow primer. I figured it was a gimmick. I don't use it every day but I love the difference it makes. Also using Gelous over nail polish but under top coat makes my manicure last nearly a week with no chips or even tip wear
ReplyDeleteEye Shadow Primer for me too.
