Swatches: Glitter polishes from The Face Shop

Last weekend I paid a visit to The Face Shop, which is a Korean-based chain similar to The Body Shop. They sell cosmetics, BB and CC Creams, bath and body products, skincare, haircare, fragrance and, of course, nail color. It's basically a beauty-lover's dream inside this store, and if you haven't been to The Face Shop yet, I highly recommend checking their store locator for a retail location near you (I don't believe you can order their products online if you're in the US, but I'm not sure about other countries).

If you're in San Diego: The Face Shop is located inside the new Zion Market (Zion moved from their old location about a month ago). Zion Market is located on the corner of Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and Convoy, in the same building that used to be the old Kmart. Just go into the food court section where the cosmetic counters are (and of course check out the dozens and dozens of Korean BB and CC Creams!) and toward the back of the food court you'll see The Face Shop.

So when I was at The Face Shop, I picked up three glitter toppers ($6 each) and one milky glitter ($4) and some cosmetic items which I will review in the future (yesterday I posted some preview pics on Instagram of the makeup I purchased). I was so excited to swatch these polishes that I basically did it in the middle of the night last night--take a peek!

Before I get to the swatches, I wanted to mention that The Face Shop has several nail color kits too. In addition to lots of gradient kits, they had something I had never seen before in stores: a Galaxy Nails kit! You can see their kit here (the glitter polish contains hex and bar glitter). This kit retailed for $10 and the bottles were minis. Another thing I had never seen before were these Check Check Kits, which are basically jelly polishes that you layer in stripes over one another to create a "plaid" design on the nail. I believe these were $17 and the bottles were full-size.

On to the swatches!

The Face Shop Nail Colors
Face It "Colored Papers Nails" Collection polishes in Lovely Pop, Bunny Girl, Tropical Candy
(retail: $6 each, 0.39 oz)
Lovely Me:Ex "Yogurt Nails" Collection polish in Lemon Candy Yogurt
(retail: $4, 0.39 oz)

Let's start with the polishes from Colored Paper Nails Collection:

Lovely Pop (from the Colored Paper Nails Collection)

Lovely Pop

This polish has it ALL, glitter fans. Matte white bars, stars and hexagons, transparent yellow hearts, blue hexagons and red squares! These pics were taken after one coat of Lovely Pop over black (plus one layer of top coat). I didn't have to fish at all for the white, blue or red glitter, but I did have to fish for the yellow hearts (it wasn't too frustrating though). The only frustrating part was that I kept finding too much white glitter on my brush while I was trying to dab on the the blue, red and yellow glitter. I need to get better at my dabbing skills...

Bunny Girl (from the Colored Papers Nails Collection)

Bunny Girl

Bunny Girl contains matte pink and matte white bars, squares, hearts and smell hexagons. It is absolutely adorable. I applied one coat of Bunny Girl over a teal creme (plus one layer of top coat). Unfortunately, I applied Bunny Girl before my base color had completely dried, so you can see that the teal kicked up a bit and deposited itself onto the white glitter pieces. This polish does require some skill and patience (and a bit of fishing) but oh is it worth it. I really want to get better at glitter placement because I find myself want to slap this polish on top of practically ever other polish I own!

Tropical Candy (from the Colored Paper Nails Collection)

Tropical Candy

Tropical Candy contains large hexagons in matte green, pink and white. It also contains medium hexagons in matte blue and red, and also small, white, matte squares. This was by far the easiest of all the Colored Paper Nails polishes to apply, with little to no fishing required. I did have to dab the larger glitters with my brush a bit, but it was a cake-walk compared to the others. I used one coat of Tropical Candy over a sage green creme (plus one layer of top coat). This polish is so fun--it reminds me of gumballs and confetti!

Lemon Yogurt (from the Yogurt Nails Collection)

  Lemon Yogurt

You know I am a sucker for milky glitters, and I am in love with this one. Lemon Yogurt contains medium and tiny metallic hexagons in olive green, kelly green, rose and yellow-gold. All of these beautiful glitters are floating around in a milky base color that I would best describe as lemon yellow with a dash of chartreuse. This polish did require three coats for the opacity you see above, and I had some tiny issues with leveling (you can see that best on my middle finger above). But oh was it worth it! One coat of clear top coat evened out the glitter perfectly.

There are a total of five shades in the Yogurt Nails Collection and you can view them all here
There are a total of four shades in the Colored Paper Nails Collection and you can view them all here.

Once again, for store locations and other info, see the very top of this blog post.

Do you own anything from The Face Shop? If so, I would absolutely LOVE to hear from you! I can't wait to start playing with the cosmetics I purchased (reviews to come).

The products featured in this post were purchased with personal funds. For more information, click here.

  1. I have their 3 holos but I haven't gotten around to using them yet, which is a typical dilemma for a nail polish addict (ahem, hoarder!).

  5. Lovely Pop reminds me of the packaging for L'Oreal Studio haircare from the 80's, I think it was called that? Bunny Girl seems 80's too, like one of those humungous oversized ESPRIT tops, all boxy, with weirdly placed buttons....aaaah memories! I think I'm finally getting into glitters a bit, the milky ones especially

  10. AHHH a Face Shop in San Diego?! I have the Check Check kit you mentioned, the kit with the darker non-pastel shades. Two are dupes for the Zoya jellies, Paloma and Frida. I love the glitter combos here.

  16. Oh my I just wish I could have all of these!!!! Not that I will ever be in a place to buy these but do all the glitters stay flat G? The bottle shots alone had me drooling! And a milky glitter in something other than white?! Love it!

  17. Those first three are adorable. I initially thought "meh...looks like all the other milky glitters" when I saw that first pick of the fourth one, Lemon Yogurt...but your subsequent pics with the swatches changed my mind. I think that one is my favorite now. Totally my kind of colors, and suprisingly *not* like all the other milky glitters I've seen so far.

  20. i happened to be visiting the los angeles korea town and they had a grand opening for the face shop. i was so excited after seeing your recent swatches of the polish. i got a bottle of lovely pop and also apple mint yogurt. loooove them! :) i wanted to buy so much more especially a bottle of the body lotion which was very moisturizing for my dry skin but alas, i cannot bring that with me on the plane. :( i was able to purchase a pkg of some nail covers. each one slips over a finger and shields the nails from getting smudge. a pkg was $6. pretty cool!

  21. I want all of these!! Too bad there's nothing in Iowa :(

  22. Wow I didn't know The Face Shop has many of that fun colours. I have used their nail polish with different colour but I didn't like it very much. It does dry pretty fast but I feel like it really dry out my nails. Did the same thing happen to you?

    Love
