Beauty Bite: Avon Color Precise Lipsticks in Fuchsia Finish and Infallible Mauve

NOTE: Right now on the Avon website, you can use code JULYFS to receive free shipping on any order (no minimum). I don't know when this code expires, so don't hesitate if you want to order anything (such as these lipsticks or that pretty sage green polish I reviewed a while back!).

When I placed my last Avon order (there was a free shipping promotion just like the one going on today) I decided to pick up two of these new-for-2013 Color Precise Lipsticks. I can't say no to unusual shapes when it comes to lip colors so after scavenging the internet for swatches, I decided on these two shades:

Avon Color Precise Lipsticks
(retail: $8 each, 0.12 oz)
Before removing wrapper (top) and after removing wrapper (bottom)

 Fuchsia Finish and Infallible Mauve

From the Avon website:

Formulated with Vitamin E, honey and aloe extracts. Instant lip moisturization. Feather-proof formula. Innovative diamond design for precise application.

Looking at the few swatches I could find online, there seem to be a lot of frosty shades in this range (there are 12 shades total). The shades I purchased are two of the few that I could find that were true cremes (which is weird because the swatch of Infallible Mauve on the website will lead you to believe it's shimmery--it's not). I love the versatility and ease-of-wear when it comes to creme finish lipsticks, so that's why I chose these:

PROS:
  • Can be worn sheer or can be easily built up for more pigmentation
  • Both shades have a very pretty, gel-like translucency
  • Very creamy, smooth texture that feels wonderful on the lips
  • Hydrating
  • Good staying power (I can get over two hours of wear for both shades)
  • Color fades evenly with no ring-around-the-lips
  • Very soft "fruit punch" flavor and fragrance that fade quickly
  • "Diamond" shape of stick really does enable precise application, especially when applying to upper lip

CONS:
  • Fuchsia Finish can settle into any dryness you may have on your lips (see pic above)
  • The "diamond" shape of the stick may present a challenge for some users

THE LAST BITE: I truly struggled to think of "cons" for these lipsticks. I am in love with the creamy, gel-like texture and finish of both of these shades. The formula (which contains Vitamin E, honey and aloe) makes my lips feel like a million bucks even after most of the color has faded away. Speaking of color, I'm so happy that the fuchsia shade wasn't nearly as bright or intimidating as it looks in the tube--it's a quite wearable hot pink with just a dash of coral. Infallible Mauve is also a lovely shade of wine-ish purple that I think would look absolutely stunning on deeper skintones. The "diamond" shape of the stick really does work for me, but I can see it presenting a slight challenge or learning curve for some of you, so just give it some time and I'm pretty sure you'll get the hang of it in no time. These two shades are winners, Nouvettes. I recommend!

Do you own any Avon Color Precise Lipsticks? Are you in love with them too? Don't forget that you can get free shipping on any order right now with code JULYFS (again, I don't know when this code expires so don't wait too long...).

    1. Thanks, R.! And yeah, they don't quite excel at color swatches/descriptions on their site! Lol

  3. The colors look great in the tubes but the lack of staying power (only two hours) and having to build them up will prevent me from purchasing these.

    1. I should clarify that over two hours for me, with ANY lipstick this hydrating, is really good! :) Other lipsticks with this type of texture barely last a full hour for me. But I noticed that some reviewers on the Avon site are saying these last them several hours, so your results could be even better than mine if you don't "smoosh" your lips a lot (which I tend to do).

Also, they are quite nicely pigmented after just one or two swipes, but you can also apply with less pressure for a more sheer look. Hope that helps!

  4. Thanks for the shipping code. Used it to order some eyeshadow duos which are on sale 3/$9.99. They had a bunch of great sales.
