Bye Bye, old bottles!
As mentioned a few days ago, Orly has redesigned their iconic bottles. Thanks to reader mxpbrand for the heads-up that Sally Beauty posted a sneak peek of the new bottle design on their Instagram here.
The lid is still rubber, but it's been changed to black and the little dots are gone. In their place are "ridged finger grips." Also, the brand font has been changed and they've ditched the iconic "O." There's also a new "black tipped brush."
Sally Beauty wrote the following on their Instagram:
So excited to be sharing this with you all!! #Orly nail lacquer will be showing of their new look very soon. We absolutely love the new sleek bottle design with the black tipped brush and the ridged finger grips. The bold new letters are just an expression of how awesome their colors and how they're sticking with their traditional lacquer formula. Nothing is changing but the bottles new and improved look which is deigned to help you do your nails better. Nothing but the BEST from ORLY!
Also, the new bottles are featured in the current Sally Beauty sale flyer for February:

Don't forget that all Orly polishes are 2/$11 for the entire month of February at Sally!
I'd love to know what you think of the redesigned bottles. Share your thoughts in the comments!
Thanks again, mxpbrand, for the heads-up!
I like the new caps, but I like the old design with the "O" better. I'm going to miss the "O" D:
ReplyDeleteAgreed! The cap redesign looks cool, but I really wonder why they decided to change the bottle's print- the pretty O design looks so professional, with a touch of luxe- the new design is just blah and kind of cheap looking!
DeleteAgreed! The new bottle font looks cheap!
DeleteThese bottles kinda look like their old ones: dated and cheap looking
DeleteIm not gonna start not-liking the brand or anything, i just dont get why they would replace that with... This. Just dont get it..
Yes the old bottle looks better! The color of the cap and the font! The new one looks obsolete and unprofessional! Will actually stop buying Orly because of the hideous new look!
DeleteI know a lot of people on MUA are really upset about the changes, but I don't get the frustration. Its just a tiny bit of change really. The formula, bottle shape, amount of polish and brush type are all staying the same... so its really not a big deal.
ReplyDeleteExactly! I didn't understand it either.
DeleteColor me confused too. I really don't get the uproar.
DeleteI'm slightly upset - wait, correction. My OCD is upset. I like it when my polish bottles look the same when it's a specific brand!
ReplyDeleteSame here! I think I'll have to rush out and buy all the ones I wanted before they change the bottles. The new design is going to mess with my head... lol
DeleteThere was another set of Orly bottles I came across in either TJ Maxx or Marshalls, same type of top, but the bottle was more oval shaped with the same plain Orly label.
ReplyDeleteI have the bonder base coat in this style of bottle you're describing - I picked it up at Marshalls. It has the swirly "O" on the top but the font on the bottle that says "ORLY" is in this new style. Hmm..
Deletehopefully this means the old versions will be popping up cheaper at places like big lots and ross!
ReplyDeleteinteresting...I wonder if i's comfortable to hold with those ridges.
ReplyDeleteEw... I just don't like it. It seems very cheap to me. However, I like that they are still using a similar type of brush handle because they really are comfortable!
ReplyDeleteI'm not impressed. I agree that they look cheap, and I miss the "O"! However, I do love Orly, so as long as the formula hasn't changed, I'll still be buying them.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for the new font at all, it looks cheap to me :( I do like the change to the black tops though, the grey ones always looked so odd and ugly in my helmer with all the other black tops. Still I'm going to have a hard time looking for ORLY in my drawers because I won't know which color top I'm looking for. Blah.
ReplyDeleteI went to Sally's on Friday to get the bogo ...went today (Saturday) and it was already changed to the new bottles!
ReplyDeleteMy Sally's already has the new bottles up!
ReplyDeleteIm not thrilled but not opposed either going to check them out tomorow I hope. The old bottle font and design was better though will have to try them out before i pass judgment on the cap/brush. Though i dont like other bottles with ridged caps as I have a way of dinging a wet polish while doing my domiant hand but we shall see.
ReplyDeleteThat's it? That's the change? I personally don't like it but oh well. Does this mean the old bottles will start getting marked down?
ReplyDeleteThe logo looks cheap but I don't mind the new top. I always liked the old bottles though.
ReplyDeleteJust got some of these today! I have to say I like the old design better, but it doesn't bother me too much.
ReplyDeleteOrly's bottle design was flawless. I think the new ones are horrible.
ReplyDeleteOh well. At least now I can stock up on old bottle sales!
I agree the new logo looks cheap, but I can deal. However, if they mess with the formula I'll pitch a fit.
ReplyDeleteThe new ones look a little cheapo to me :( the old design looked so much more sophisticated
ReplyDeleteCHEAP!
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why people think the font looks cheap. I don't assign any price to any font. What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else. I like it with the O logo and I think the new font looks cheap. I saw a bottle of Orly at Winners in an oval bottle with this font and at first I thought it was a fake or something until I read that they were changing their bottles. Also, OCD!! I dont want two different bottles in my stash.
ReplyDeleteBummer. I always liked the old bottles I thought Orly had one of the most sophisticated designs. I don't like these new ones they look like a cheapo walmart polish or something lol. The font is just so blocky and plain and the black caps are just like everyone else, the old silver caps were more unique. Still, I love Orly's formula.
ReplyDeleteI like the old design much better. Like everyone says, the new version looks like packaging for lower price point brands.
ReplyDeleteSaw it at Sally, I dont like the new design, but I dont mind since it still god quality.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely very upset about their signature O. I don't understand this sudden change. The bottles were perfectly fine. I always associated the O with Orly nail polishes. And now I can't. It's quite sad if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteI like the old lid better, although I don't hate the new one. I feel its a waste to pull the old to replace with the new the way Sally's did. The way ORLY is now written reminds me a lot of OPI. I will miss the orly O on the top :-(
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for their formula, so this doesn't really affect me. But don't the tops look like their "upscale" label SpaRitual?
ReplyDeleteThey are the same tops. They even have the purple Sparitual tops on their treatment bottles like Sparitual. Since they are sister companies I guess they're sharing like siblings. Lol! I even saw some frosted Orly bottles, which of course Sparitual has as well. I think the new bottles look strange, but we'll get used to them. I love both companies.
DeleteSome people really like the old tops and are sad about that change, but I like the new handles. Black is always good for me, and the ridges instead of indented dots look nice. I do agree with everyone that has a problem with the font though. Rather than being bold and to the point like they intended, the lettering feels flimsy and cheap. The stylized O was very iconic so I'm pretty bummed that they changed it. It's a small thing overall, definitely nothing to avoid the brand for.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, I think it looks cheap. No real logo, just the name in a generic blocky font. I'm gonna need some spectacular colors to make me want pick these up.
ReplyDeleteI mean, I am not upset about it, or care really that they did it, but if asked my opinion I would say the new packaging looks pretty cheap, especially the lettering. :-/
