My Weekend Manicure: Wet n Wild Poison Ivy & Root of All Evil

Time again for my weekend manicure, and this weekend I had a hard time choosing between these lovely Limited Edition polishes from Wet n Wild:

Back at the end of August, I showed you pics of the Wet n Wild Limited Edition Pick Your Poison Collection. After a month of searching, this display finally popped up at a local CVS (I'm hearing it's starting to surface at Walgreens as well) and I bought the two colors that really jumped out at me:

Wet n Wild Megalast Nail Colors in Poison Ivy and Root of All Evil
(retail: $1.99 each, 0.45 oz)

Keep reading for swatches of both colors...

I initially did a full manicure of Poison Ivy:

These pics were taken after two coats and one layer of top coat. Poison Ivy is almost a one-coater, but the formula is thick and goopy. I encountered some bald spots on the first coat, so I had to apply a second. This is a stunning color though--I love the green shimmer. One thing to note though: if you clean up your manicures with a brush and acetone like I do, this one is messy, messy, messy polish during clean-up. The moment your brush makes contact with this polish, the polish instantly starts to bleed all over your cuticles (see my pinky finger). Every time I tried to go back over the black residue with my clean brush, it seemed to just deposit more black polish with every brush stroke. So I would suggest not using the brush and acetone method with this one (the same goes for Root of All Evil, as you'll see in a second).

After wearing Poison Ivy for a few hours, I realized that I wanting something a little bit brighter for the weekend, so I changed my polish to Root of All Evil:

Root of All Evil is a stunning shade of electric royal blue that is even more beautiful and rich in person (my camera kind of washes out the depth of this color). This one is definitely a one-coater. It's perfectly opaque after one coat but I always apply at least two (which is what you see here). The formula on this polish is absolutely perfect. It flows effortlessly on to the nail with no application issues whatsoever. The only issue I ran into was the same issue I had with Poison Ivy--if you use the brush and acetone method to clean up your manicures, I would advise skipping that with these polishes. The moment my brush comes in contact with this polish, the polish bleeds into my cuticles almost instantly.

On the up side, these polishes don't stain the nails after removal. I was so afraid I'd have "Smurf hands" after wearing this color, but I removed the polish on my pinky finger to test it out and no staining (also, no staining occurred when I removed Poison Ivy). But because these polishes bleed almost instantly when they come in contact with acetone, you might encounter some hard-to-remove residue on your cuticles. I don't know how this will be if you use a non-acetone remover though, because I only use 100% acetone.

If I had to recommend just one of these polishes, it would definitely be Root of All Evil, because the formula is perfect and you really only need one coat for great opacity. Poison Ivy is beautiful too, but be prepared to add a few drops of polish thinner to that one since it's pretty thick and goopy on its own.

Have you spotted the Wet n Wild Pick Your Poison collection in your area yet? Thoughts?

  4. I love Poison Ivy and when I first saw this collection a little while ago at a local grocery store I was going to pick it up, but I put it down and when I went back a little later it was all sold out so I picked up Lethal Injection. I haven't tried it yet because I hate those brushes. lol

  5. Thanks for choosing those polishes for today's manicure; I love them.

I was so excited to finally see these in my store yesterday. I'd ordered just enough coupons (12) to complete my collection of all three WNW lines and (6) to give to the BA. But then I saw these (6) shades that I hadn't counted on being there...now I have to wait for the next time they issue coupons to complete the collections, because I'm short by (6)! If the BA hadn't been there I could have done it. LOL Just kidding - I always share with her.

  6. I was also fortunate enough to grab the entire set when I came across them a couple of weeks ago. Great value and perfectly beautiful, saturated color. I had a lot of fun using these polishes for dotticures.

  8. WOW. I cannot love Poison ivy more! So pretty! Just what I need to my stash. I don't like bright greens so this is perfect for fall.

  10. I saw these on Wednesday at my Walgreens and I had to restrain myself from getting all of them. I ended up picking up Poison Ivy and Lethal Injection. I haven't gotten around to swatching them for my blog, but I did swatch them for my collection and the brushes are both pretty bad. It's okay though because I LOVE the colors. Next time I see the collection I might just have to pick up Root of All Evil too.

  12. I saw this while out of town and they didn't have a full display up, but I bought Poison Ivy and Toxic Apple. Gorgeous polishes. Thanks for the heads up about clean up, I'll have to try to be super careful with application. When I did the swatch sticks for them, I did notice the formula was kinds wonky. Great swatches!

  13. They are both gorgeous!! And a blue that doesn't stain AND is beautiful? I'm all over that!

Unfortunately, I haven't seen these in my area yet. Thanks for the heads up about Walgreens, though. I may have to make the 40 minute drive to search for these!

  14. I love, love, love that green! The blue is gorgeous, too. I think I had a color similar to the blue one a while back from SinfulColors, and then it dried out. I'll have to keep an eye out for these!

  15. you and ur nail polish have gotten me SO back into my nails. I was wearing the same boring pink/salmon/beige and yesterday I bought WnW glitter! I love it. I figured if your 70 yr old gramma can wear it so can I.(I'm 56) I bought all kind of sinful when they were on sale and this week WnW with the 1$ coupon that makes it free. Your drugstore dupes are great, I bought the PF HW powder foundation on ur recommendation and am so happy with it. Thank you for being so sweet and sharing all your finds!

  16. Oh wow! I didn't realize they were LE. Not that I paid too much attention. I really don't know if they are out down here in Florida, yet.

They both look amazing on you, but I prefer the green on your skintone. I think the blue's for me LOL.

  20. How much time do you think you spend each week doing manicures? Just thought it would be a fun fact to know.

  21. I really hope I can find these up here in the Bay area soon. I'll have to do a drugstore round this week. I also tend to use the brush and acetone clean-up method and for polishes that run like you say these do, or reds that are super pigmented, I've found dabbing the acetone on my skin instead of brushing/wiping helps control the bleed and staining.

  22. Hi G,
Thank you and everyone associated with this blog. I have learned so much and am loving it! Can somebody please tell me where I can find these polishes? I have been to Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, Kroger and everywhere else that the Wet N'Wild website says there are sold. They all have my name & phone number to call if/when they come in. I love Wet N'Wild, especially the MegaLast line. The quality is up there with OPI. I have all of the current Wild Shine & MegaLast's, working on completing my Fergies, Spoiled, Chromes and Metallics. It takes time to build a Castle, I love all of the 'Pick Your Poison' shades!
I live in Glen Allen, VA. This is a suburb NW of Richmond; I'm about 100 miles south of Wash, D.C. HELP!!!!
Everyone have a safe and blessed day!

  23. If it helps, I found these today grouped in with the Fantasy Makers Halloween stuff. I only picked up Poison Ivy because I can't resist green polishes. Root of All Evil looks pretty but it also looks kind of like Frostbite from China Glaze, which I already have. I wonder if they're dupes?

  24. Isis, I also live in Florida, I had major trouble finding the Be Jeweled nail polishes a few months and had to go through Ebay and WNW for them. This is hoping to us finding them around us!

And G, you are getting me into this polish so much! Toxic Apple sounds interesting but Root of All Evil and Poison Ivy kind of made my ears perk up. Nyu!

  25. So gorgeous! Have they been spotted anywhere in TX?

    1. Yay! I found them at my favorite Walgreens. I don't know why they send all the good stuff to this small store that is tucked away in a big shopping center. It seems like they rarely get any traffic because of everything else that is around it.

  26. Okay, I went to Walgreens and they told me probably tomorrow they will have a new shipment. I am going to be looking since I have to exchange a temp color spray or glitter spray from the Wishmakers Halloween display (got mixed up as a lipstick). I am hoping I can find these, if not, I can get another Halloween product I wanted to get from Wishmakers.

  27. I found them! It was Fantasymakers, since it was a typo! The thing was the lipsticks were only in black and I don't wear black lipstick. Anyways, I was able to exchange for three of these bottles of polish and the display was underneath the Fantasymakers display and it wasn't marked. The bottles look similar to the bottles from the Wildshine line, why can't they make bottles that deal with the poison theme? Like a skull with poison dripping on it or do what the queen did in Snow White with the apple, have the poison on an apple and with a skull face on it and with WNW on it? The ones I did get were Root of All Evil, Toxic Apple, and Venomous Vixen. I almost did get Lethal Injection but the color that my fiance discribed was a bit weird to me but the three I got were the most interesting, especially Venomous Vixen.

I may go back tomorrow or sometime later this week and get the crackle nail polish set. I almost exchanged for that since I am liking crackle polishes now and I know these are tiny but it's how the set was made and it does appeal a bit because of it having a blue crackle, a silver one, and a red and a bottle of black polish to go with. Just letting you guys know I found these Pick Your Poison polishes! And Isis, good news, Florida is selling them!
