The Wednesday Question

Is there a higher-end product or shade that you wish you could find a dupe for at the drugstore (but can't)?

  1. YSL Glossy Stains! I love the way they feel on my lips, even if I don't necessarily love the color selection.

    1. I'm not sure if it's a dupe, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the Maybelline stain gloss. YSL is a L'Oreal brand so I am sure a dupe is out there or on the way.

  2. Guerlain meteorites and NARS China Blue matte eyeshadow. PF makes little bronzer pearls, but I would love to have all those little spheres.

    1. Physician's Formula makes a translucent version of their Pearls of Perfection, although recently I've only seen it online. It doesn't have all of the brightening colors that the Meteorites contain, but if you just want a finishing powder, it does a nice job, and is a similar effect. If you wanted it to feel fancier, you could always find a cute glass candy dish to store them in... Maybe a stretch, but I thought it might be worth pointing out, since you can only find the bronzer shades in stores anymore!

    2. I love your idea of putting them in a little glass candy dish. How adorable that would be! :)

  3. Smashbox tinted moisturizer. I thought that the Garnier BB cream might do it, but no such luck.

  4. Nope! Call me crazy but I feel like I can always find something there that matches to my satisfaction or squelches any lemmings I may have. Google and the drugstore are my best friends!

  5. Yessss! I would LOVE to find an exact dupe for MAC - Patina, but it's such a difficult color to match!

  6. I still haven't found a drugstore foundation that compares to my current Lancome Teint Idole, and believe me, I've been trying. At least Lancome has free gifts all the time, so I get a bunch of other stuff when I buy it, but I'm quite disappointed that nothing from L'oreal has measured up, since there are so many dupes between the lines in skin care and gloss. Now I've been hearing such magical things about Chanel foundations that I may have to step up to an even more expensive foundation, with NO free gifts. :( However, the foundation and concealer are areas where I just do not pinch pennies. I can make it work with the cheapest eyeshadow and lippies in the world, but not with bad foundation. Not with my big pores, fine lines, and uneven broken-out skin!

  7. Kerastase Oleo Relax Slim Cream. NOTHING else out there like it that I have seen (that doesn't mean it's not out there, though).

  8. I wish I could find a dupe for a lot of things. But I think Stila Kitten eyeshadow is at the top of the list. A lot of people say they find dupes, but to me they are never exact. I love Kitten, it's my holy-grail pink champagne eyeshadow, and I really wish I was able to find something that looked the same (exactly the same!) but wasn't $18!

  9. The Naked palettes. They are the only things that have tempted me. I mean actual drugstore products, not specialty brands like NYX that are only available online or at Ulta (which I do not have access to). I'm really shocked WnW has not released one yet, it's not like they do not have enough gorgeous neutrals already to make a fantastic palette.. in fact they have so many dupes they could almost remake the Nakeds, with maybe one or two new shades. It would sell like crazy if they did. The only thing I have found that comes close is the Maybelline 8 pan, but it's not the same quality, and so tiny. The PF naked shimmer strips are a bit better, but again, the quality is not there and the smushed pans of color are frustrating.

    1. How funny! I totally agree with you, and I actually did extensive comparisons of the UD Naked palette to some Wet n Wild shadows here. I also did a compare/contrast of the PF Nude palettes to the UD Naked palette here. Great minds think alike! :)

  10. Any number of nail polishes... drugstore brands get around to duping many cream colors well enough, but glitters/shimmers--especially duochromes-- not so much.

    1. Oops, thought my phone ate this post so I rewrote it. Feel free to delete this one. =P

Also, brown eyeliners beyond the most basic brown. UD has so many amazing browns and taupes.

    1. Have you tried the PF automatic taupe liner in the Hazels Eyes Shimmer Strips trio? It's so uncommon for the drugstore and has excellent wear. It's a holy grail for me. :)

    2. Not the automatic liners, but I've got the hazel gel trio which is the equivalent. The taupe *is* good. gotta remember to use it more often!

    3. The PF naked liner collection has two beautiful taupes. I would love a dupe for UD Juju though, I love that slightly green cast it has.

  12. I wish I could find a dupe for my HG foundation, MUFE Face and Body Makeup. I'd love to find a buildable foundation that feels like nothing on the skin and stays put! So far, the closest I've come is Revlon Colorstay, but it feels a bit heavy and the coverage isn't truly layerable, as it begins to peel and cake if you lay it on too thick.

  13. Not me, I don't know enough about high end products to wish for a dupe. Ignorance is bliss, right? LOL

  14. Hands down: Eye primer. And don't tell me that the ELF one is like UDPP, because I've tried and, I'm sorry, but it just isn't any where near as good.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree- the elf primer doesn't hold a candle to UDPP. I've had pretty good luck using ds smudge proof liners and cream shadows as primers. If there was a white or flesh toned pencil with the Milani Liquifeyes formula, that would be amazing. I wonder if a flesh toned lip pencil (made in Germany with that amazing formula) would work as an eye primer.

    2. You should try the Palladio herbal eyeshadow primer. You can get it at Ulta, or I get it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond

    3. The Palladio primer is good, I find it creamy and soft- similar in texture to too faced, yet keeps shadows in place all day, where too faced creases on me after only a few hours. Cheaper at $7, does have the doefoot applicator though. I find it at Sally's beauty supply. Their eye crayons are fantastic too, much better than NYX. Stick and do not budge, and really pretty colors.

I have never had any problems with ELF primer creasing though, but it is not the best at enhancing colors.

  15. What I would like to see drugstore brands come up with are linear holographic nail polishes so I don't have to dish out $15 or more on a brand I have to order online.

    1. I so want a linear holo np but can NOT justify spending the money. Someone mentioned Color Club Worth the Risque which is $6.50 on eBay. Do I dare?

  16. MAC Watch me Simmer! The closest I know of is Covergirl Fairytale but it's too red to be a dupe. :(

    1. try NYC Rockafellas 2 sided lipstick. Its the closest Ive found. Mix the colors together and its very close.

    2. Interesting! I actually already own it. I'll have to try it out.

    3. I've heard Maybelline Coral Crush is similar?

    4. I'd really love a dupe of MAC Force of Love

  17. I desperately want a dupe for Benefit blush in Dandelion. All the dupes that I've seen online are products not easily found in American drugstores, or they are discontinued. I'm this close to just shelling out the money for Dandelion.

  18. The original Naked palette, definitely (I am so warm-toned that Naked 2 is actually too cool for me). I've seen and swatched both the NYX and PF palettes that are purportedly dupes, but they're nowhere near close for me.

I have also been looking for a Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque dupe for forever! The closest I've come is Milani Lip Flash in Hot Flash as far as the color and finish go, but I haven't seen anything else in the drugstore that is even remotely close to Dragon :(

  19. I am wishing for a dupe for MAC Dazzleglass LE lip gloss in Jingle Jangle. It was a Christmas release in December 2010. Anyway I flew through that tube in record time. I have tried so many that I thought were dupes but just ended up close. Jingle Jangle was the perfect pink with a splash of peach and tons of sparkle!!!! Oh how I wish MAC would re-release it!!!! Every collection I look for it with a new name... (big sigh)

  20. I know it isn't high end but it's pricey enough (for me) but Seche Vite.

  21. mac powder blush in instant chic!

  22. A dupe for Nars Exhibit A and Cactus Flower. I think they are sooo beautiful, but I cannot find it in me to spend that much money on a blush. I keep on reading blogs and searching for dupes and I haven't seen anything close enough yet.
