Retro Cosmetic Commercials, Part 2

A while back, I shared some of my favorite cosmetics commercials from the 80s with you (here) and today I have another batch of fun ones for this stroll down memory lane.

What's interesting to note is how many of these products have been "reinvented" throughout the years. When you think something's new...sometimes it's just recycled!

Back in the day, Yardley used to make cosmetics.
Check out their Heartbreaker and Glimmerick eye products from 1967:

Maybelline Waterborne Eyeshadows from 1971:

Almay was making hypoallergenic cosmetics even back in 1973:

Sadly, "Fazz" was a little after my time (I was already in my late teens in the late 80s) but hopefully some of you remember, or even owned these:

Sheer foundation has been around since the 70s:

Lee: the original press-on nails (a classic!):

"A berry red that steals a little freshness and innocence...from pink."

I think I owned one of these (probably "borrowed" from my mom) and if my memory serves me correctly, they had amazing staying power!

Boots No.7 "Hard Gloss" nail polish from 1979:

Do you remember any of these products or commercials?

  2. Oh my gosh these are amazing! I'm not old enough to have ever seen these commercials or used any of these products, but they are still so fun to watch.

A lot of them seem ridiculous now, especially the way the model was wearing the Maybelline Waterborne blue eyeshadow, and the Fazz cosmetics jewellery/cosmetics.

The model in the Covergirl Supersheer commercial is GORGEOUS though. I love her natural makeup.

  5. FAZZ!!!I remember my friend growing up and I going crazy for Fazz. We would actually trade the jewelry pieces back and forth. I remember how horribly bright everything looked against my olive skin. Oh kiddie makeup...it was so badly shaded lol.

  13. So I'm not even 30 yet but I totally had some of the Yardley Glimmericks! I'm guessing they were my mothers (she was born in the early 60s)and they made their way to my play makeup drawer. Mine was actually a purple metal palette that had 5 or 6 pastel colors inside and the outside of the palette had little graphics showing how you could paint hearts and flowers on your face. I wonder what happened to it...

  15. I remember the Lee press on Nails and that commercial. Just the other day I found myself thinking about the set that was geared toward tweens and teens. I wanted them even though I had naturally long nails.

The Fazz seems commerial seems familiar but I was little too old for them at that point.

All these were fun to watch. I can't wait to see the next set.
