Has a beauty blog ever fueled your obsession with a product that you were never even drawn to UNTIL you started reading beauty blogs?
I personally was never really into highlighters until I started reading beauty blogs, but now I'm completely obsessed with them. I know I can't be alone here, so let's hear it! Has this happened to YOU too?
Yes! Everything! I was happy with my one concealer, couple of eye shadows and a dozen nail polishes, until I discovered beauty blogs about a year ago. Now I have over 100 nail polishes and a much larger supply of makeup. oops! lol.
ReplyDeletenail polish FOR SURE! & mascara.
ReplyDeleteOMG, blogs and Youtube totally fuel my obsession with makeup and nail polish. Why is it that I feel that I need EVERYTHING they are talking about? ...even if I don't really need it. I agree, I didn't even know what highlighters were until I got into reading blogs, etc. Same with eyelid primer and face primer. But I must say, I am so happy to know the things I know now:) Especially because my makeup and eyeshadow stay on much longer:)
ReplyDeleteUm, makeup in general?! I hardly wore any makeup up until a couple years ago. I decided I wanted to learn a little about what's out there, so I started looking at beauty blogs for recommendations. Within a couple months, I had a very full makeup stash!
ReplyDeleteBut if I had to pick one thing, I would say lip products. Blogs got me to be way more adventurous about different colors and formulas than I would have been.
I was reading an older post from Pink Sith's blog today and now I MUST own l'occitane hand lotion. I am on a quest and you cannot stop me. lol~
ReplyDeleteNail Polish!
ReplyDeleteLOL G!! You know thats the truth!
ReplyDeleteFor me it was primer, highlighters for that JLO glow a close second! But primers have been my single best beauty product esp. living here in FL!!!
You tube and beauty blogs have completely fuled my obsession with cosmetics! I want it all! : )
ReplyDeleteEye shadow primers for one thing. I never realized how important they are to keeping eye shadows from creasing until I started reading beauty blogs. I also have had a few nail polishes that I only learned about and had to hunt down because of beauty blogs.
ReplyDeleteomg yes! I never thought of owning a neon nail polish, now i have one in every color!! i never cared about primers! or mascara formulas lol but with all the good deals i find it fuels my internal hoarder!!! like bronzers!! im mexican, so sometimes i think... do i even need a bronzer?! but yet i have 5 of them!! HA! :) not complaining though! :D
ReplyDeleteI understand! Im brown skin African-American and I LOVE my bronzers! As long as there darker then your skin tone it'll work so rock it!!
DeleteGuilty as charged! I'm a shopalcholic... OMG!!! and It just started when I like a stored in facebook and they started posting blogs of girls with their outfits and I started liking it!!! Then I realized that I needed to update my makeup collection and techniques and YOUTUBE appeared... what little did I know about make up and all that stuff I just had a foundation and a powder and only used one eyeshadow arround my eyelids.... now its another story.... crazy.... lotion, primer, foundation, eyelid primers, diferent eyeshawdos, lash primer, Mascara, etc etc... I need to go to a shopalcoholic rehab center.... LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteBeauty blog reviews definitely bring new products to my attention (I bought the Covergirl + Olay blush because of you) and youtube fills in the gaps. I subscribe to a few beauty "gurus" on youtube and a lot of their reviews or favorites will cause me to want to buy that product.
ReplyDeleteI've always been obsessed with makeup, polish and beauty products, but I'm even worse about wanting things now since I've been following blogs. Especially polish! The swatches on my fave nail blogs make me want every polish I see. My bf thinks I'm crazy. haha The other day he said don't you have enough? I'm like there's no such thing as enough when it comes to makeup and polish!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel!! I get the "don't you have enough" "Your obsessed" from my son and my bf! Then I try showing them pictures of bloggers & youtube gurus stashes and how much more they have then me but it doesn't help.
DeleteYes!! I have really become makeup obsessed from watching youtube and reading makeup blogs. My new obsession is nail polish, wet n wild eyeshadows, bronzers and highlighters!
Deleteomg i was reading one of my fav blogs about polish last night and looking at her swatches...and my husband was like " i know you have to fuel your fetish but can you stop looking at nail polishes" i just laughed, men have nooooooo idea how many different shades of blue there are!! lol and i'm also slowly collecting all the wet and wild eyeshadows also!!
DeleteI have always into nail polish, but beauty blogs have brought the obsession to a whole new level.
ReplyDeleteThey also opened up the world of lipstick to me. A couple of months ago, I would never wear it because I thought it looked out of place or clownish on me. Now...it's a whole different story. I love the pizzazz a little bit of lippy can bring. Not to mention the boost in confidence it now gives me.
Absolutely. Bloggers and vloggers. I use to be a finger applier with less than a handful of brushes but then I got into watching vlogs and reading a couple of blogs and now I own about 3x more brushes and applicators.
ReplyDeleteUm, yeah... lol. YT's fault, for sure. My collection has grown ten fold since I started watching. I guess it could be worse, I could collect exotic cars or something lol. I just recently had to expand my storage... again.. to accommodate all my eyeshadows. I even started couponing again just to feed my cosmetic addition, now I can buy twice as much- not sure if that is a good thing or not!
ReplyDeleteNail polish for sure. And any long-wearing eye products. I have an insane amount of nail polish now, and I sometimes can't even find a color I like! Pretty sad, isn't it? haha
ReplyDeleteEyeshadow and nail polish, both thanks to you G!! I never wore eyeshadow prior to reading your blog, and now I own way too many!! LOL. Ditto with unusually colored nail polish. Prior to your blog, I owned maybe three nail polishes, all in very "safe" colors. I kept loooking at all the pretty pictures you'd post. When you wrote that you'd spent a couple of decades wearing nudes and safe colors, and were done with that now, I thought, Heck yes! (We are the same age!). So now I have every color of the rainbow, and way too many nail polishes as well. But, it has definitely been fun and opened my eyes to a lot of nuances about color that I never noticed before. Thanks for all that you do. I love your blog!!
ReplyDeleteFalse lashes. And liquid foundation, which I was never really into (I used and still sometimes use the amazing Stila powder foundation), but now I love trying new liquid formulas. I love the idea of creating a flawless complexion.
ReplyDeleteEyeshadow, blushes, nail polishes, etc.
ReplyDeleteYes! Bronzers. I have 5 now. Im pale.. white ghost pale tough to match a bronzer too without lookin like an oompa loompa.
ReplyDeleteRock & Republic Blushes, I've never even heard of them until reading blogs. Thus began my quest 2 years ago to collect all of them I have 9 and it pains me to know that they discontinued them when I was so close to having them all!!!!! I check Kohls once a week to see it R&R has added makeup back to its line as well as stalking blog sales.
ReplyDeleteMy answer would be highlighters and bronzers...but I don't use either much, despite now having quite a collection of them! I didn't even use makeup until 5 months ago! Now I have enough to open a store! I own 40 mascaras!!! This blog has fueled my CVS addiction! But whatever, its my only vice!
ReplyDeletelol Basically inexpensive makeup!! I used to buy a few token clinique and MAC items and now I'm obsessed with Jordana, Wet 'n Wild, NYC etc. because I can try different colors for practically nothing!!! As an adult I totally overlooked those brands thinking back to my preteen years of frosty pink and blue eyeshadow (Wet 'n Wild I'm lookin' at you)... Now pink and blue would be intentional and skillfully applied rather than looking like a 13-year-old drag queen back then (shudders to think). Now I think Wet 'n Wild shadows are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYES, Nars Laguna, ELF, MAC,nailpolish...
ReplyDeletekonad. never really paid attention to them before but now im just amazed with them starting to get the bronzer bug too. oh boy, losing storage space and cash to often.
ReplyDeleteI've been wearing nail polish since I was 3 or 4. Blogs, You Tube and forums have taken it to an all new level. My stash is larger than it's ever been. There are still many shades I have yet to get. I'm now interested in nail art. So, I'm reading and watching videos about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm less into other types of makeup. Some lip color, mascara, eyeliner and light foundation and I'm happy.
Yellow eyeshadow.. I was searching around one day and saw a blog reviewing the sigma dare palette- after seeing the swatches and the look they developed using yellow as one of the main colors I needed a few yellow shadows ASAP... Now I own over 10 shades of bright yellow and LOVE them!!!
ReplyDeleteBlushes and bronzers!
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the eyelid primer group! I never thought about them at all until I started reading beauty blogs. Now I use my elf primer every day and I really see the difference. Nail polishes too...I've found so many good colors from beauty blogs (mostly yours!).
ReplyDeleteYes & no. Blogs/vlogs have fueled some purchases but they have turned me off of a number of purchases as well after seeing swatches, seeing how it applied, etc. I'm definitely a more well-informed shopper with the proliferation of blogs & vlogs!
ReplyDeleteblogs and youtube definitely made me buy things I didn't think I need. Often times they allow me to understand the use of that product better and relate it to myself, but I end up spending and buying so much more stuff!
ReplyDeleteI used to hate lipgloss. I am still really picky, but looking at swatches and reading details first (stickiness, flavour, etc.) gets me more excited to buy glosses. I just tried my first Revlon Colorburst one yesterday since they're all over my favourite blogs and I'm planning on swooping in for a couple more. I love them!
