Update on Target Spring Beauty Bag

A huge thanks to reader Candace for letting me know Target Style (via their Facebook page) confirmed additional details about the "three qualifying purchases" you will need to in order to get a code to print out on your receipt so that you can sign up for the free Target Beauty Bag.

Apparently there is no set list of qualifying beauty purchases that you can make in order to unlock the code, and qualifying purchases are just ONE way to get the code (with more ways to come). Target's response on their Facebook page:

"[the] code is based on a number of factors, including previous purchases. We do not have a specific few items to recommend in order to cause the code to print. Please do watch for other opportunities to get the Beauty Bag - coming soon."

Lots of companies like to reward frequent shoppers with free goodies, and it's of course entirely up to Target if they'd like to change the rules this time around and make this is more of a "loyalty reward" type of freebie. Admittedly, I'm more confused now about how to obtain this code than I was yesterday, so I just hope that Target releases the full details and rules as soon as possible so we all know exactly what it will take to get the code.

As always, as soon as I hear more details I'll let you know.

Thanks again, Candace, for the great info!

  1. Hope you're feeling a lot better today, G. This Target thing sounds like a gimmick or a game they want to play with us. I, for one, am not about to buy three (no less!) beauty products at one time, unless it's an emergency, which I can't imagine running out of three products at once. I'm starting to like Target a lot less and Walgreens a lot more these days.

    1. Thanks so much for asking! I'm definitely starting to feel a little better today, but nowhere near 100%. :(

I think it's important to remember that, as Phoebe sort of said below, freebies are not a right, they are a privilege. Target, or any other store, is not required to give away things for free, and if they choose to do it in a different way this time around, we can honor that and play along, or skip it altogether. I don't think this is a gimmick, but I can understand your frustration since the rules and guidelines are not yet clear. Like they said on their facebook page, there will be more ways than just the three qualifying purchases to get the code, so there might be a way that works better for you personally. But of course, if you're not happy with the way this is being executed, you've got every right to skip this promotion altogether! :)

  2. I know that it's frustrating to have such vague directives, but Target is sending out a FREE beauty sample bag, which they totally don't have to do. Sometimes I feel like people get so angry over free things, which is so silly.

    1. I think people are just angry because they changed the way it used to be, and it's not like the value of the bag is high or anything. It's worth MAYBE two dollars. Yes, it's silly to be mad about free stuff, but still :)

    2. Yep, like I mentioned above, freebies are a not a right, they are a privilege. I completely understand being frustrated by the lack of clarity for this particular promotion, but hopefully it will all become clear (soon!) and then we can each make up our minds as to whether or not we'd like to participate. :)

    3. Jenny: Yep, I can understand that frustration, especially since we've all grown accustomed to them doing it a certain way. But again, it's Target's right to execute this in whatever way they see fit, and it's up to each of us if we want to play along...or not. :)

    4. Sorry G — I just wanted to clarify...my comment was totally not directed toward anything you wrote! Just been seeing a lot of angry people all over the web about this.

But from what it sounds like...it's a catalina that's printing out and not something at the bottom of your receipt?

  3. This goes so well with a article I read about how target issues a guest number that gets attached to your credit card/debit card every time you purchase something and pay. I always use cash so that might be a reason why they don't send me coupons. They keep track of the products your buy and mail coupons. A father found out his teenage daughter was pregnant when she received coupons from target for diapers and cocoa butter lolllllll

  4. I needed a few beauty items from Target, so I went today and bought five beauty items (most of which I needed, two of which I pretended I needed...oops?). I did not receive anything but the usual "You could win a $5000 gift card" thing at the end of my receipt. I bought a neutrogena moisturizer, elf brush shampoo, a sinful colors nail polish, a covergirl eyeshadow, and a john frieda product.

    1. Well, since the statement on Facebook said it was based on "previous purchases" maybe some of those purchases will count when they roll out the rest of the rules! Who knows at this point, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! lol! :)

  5. It confuses me about the previous purchases thing. I'm a regular Target shopper, and buy 90% of our H&B products from there... But there's a 50/50 chance of me using cash, instead of my debit card. There's no way for them to track those purchases, and not all of my purchases with my debit card have had 100% of my H&B purchases on them. While I understand and know that freebies are simply a fun and awesome perk - it's kind of a downer knowing that my chances are slim because of the whole tracking thing.

    1. Wow, you make an excellent point! Now I'm very curious how they'd be able track purchases if you paid in cash. Hum...

Well all I can say at this point is that, hopefully, the other ways you can get the code will be easy to accomplish if you're a regular Target shopper. Fingers crossed!

  6. I got this info from another forum. Don't know how reliable, but its still something! "I called and spoke to one of their "Team" members and she told me that the following products: Unilever skincare, Pixi Face Primer and Neutrogena were the promo items to buy in order to receive a code on your receipt, which then can be redeemed while there in the storefor the Spring Beauty Bag. She did say that not every bag contains the same items and that this can only be done via instore....not online."

  7. Sorry to add another comment, but I was reading another blog and some said they bought waffles and diet cokes that prompted a catalina with the code. On FB, target is also telling people it is random. Thought I pass along what I read

  8. Seems like a whole lot of hoops to jump through for some shampoo packets and coupons...Pass.

  9. Boo! Hiss! As if the damned things weren't hard enough to get a hold of anyway. As a previous poster said, too many hoops for some cheap shampoo samples and too soon to expire coupons. Forget about it.

  10. I kinda like that it is a mystery! :)

  11. I've been to Target lots of times this week already and now I have to go and find my old receipts. Good grief!

  12. I wonder if using your Target Red card helps? I have the Red debit card and love it!
