Sneak peek: new NYC City Duet 2 in 1 Split Lipsticks

In recent "sightings" posts I've given you a glimpse of some of the new products NYC has to offer us for 2012, and today I'd like to give you a closer look at the new lipstick collection. I'm a huge, longtime fan of NYC lipsticks, so I'm really excited to show you these (I will be reviewing some of them in the near future so, if you're interested, please check back soon for my full review).

NYC City Duet 2 in 1 Split Lipsticks retail for $2.99 each and come in 10 shades
(technically, 20 shades):

The Rock A Fellas

The Vintage Pinks
The Cherry Blossoms

 The Hot Pinks

 The Madison Bronzes
 The Red Hots
 The Waldorf Roses
 The Empire Lilacs

 The Penthouse Plums
The Café Cuties

Are you excited to see these new split lipsticks in person? Are any of the shades jumping out at you? I'm really excited to try The Rock A Fellas and Empire Lilacs!

Please stay tuned for more NYC sneak peeks coming soon!

  1. Split lipsticks seem like a great idea in theory, but they are so hard to apply (unless you use a lipbrush), so I don't think i'll be picking these up.

    1. Although I haven't tried these yet, I've used some in the past and found them easy to apply if you just use the side if the stick. But again, I haven't tried these in particular YET. :)

    2. I guess I just have a very defined cupid's bow area on my lip, and I need the tip of the lipstick to be able to be pretty precise!

  2. These look very intriguing! I'm especially interested in the The Red Hots and The Penthouse Plums, as well as The Rock A Fellas. Can't wait for your review!

  3. I bought the Cafe Cuties and the color is really nice. The lighter side doesn't show up too much but the other side I really like. Two things I hate about it however. The smell/taste is sooooo strong and chemically, and it doesn't twist all the way down so every single time I open and close it I ding the lipstick. I haven't worn it much because of the smell, to tell you the truth...

    1. So do they smell different than the other NYC lipsticks? And yes, none of the NYC lipsticks fully retract, so I'm not surprised these don't either.

  4. Omg I am ALL OVER The Hot Pinks as soon as I see it. The dark half looks like the kind of gorgeous blue based fuchsias I'm obsessing over right now...

  5. OMG! I have to get some of these! They all look gorgeous! I especially have to get the lilac toned one. Thanks for letting everybody know about these. I am gonna keep an eye out.

  6. I really love the colors and I love the idea. But I also wonder how easy it'll work. But I certainly want to try some.

  11. They look so interesting, there are definitely a few ones I want to check out. I have some other NYC lipsticks that I love, so I can't wait to see these.

  12. Hmm, it seems like a lot of drugstore brands are trying to do the whole lipstick duet thing (I'm looking at you Covergirl)! It just seems a little gimmicky to me, I don't technically see it as getting two shades because when I'm in a rush I'm sure as hell not going to be paying attention to which side of the lipstick I'm applying! But kudos to NYC for trying to be innovative (and being budget friendly as always)!

  13. I got the Cherry Blossom one and used my $1 CVS coupon ;)

  14. I saw these at the drugstore the other day, but they didn't look great in person to me - they looked kind of gimmicky and hard to apply. Covergirl's version, with the double-sided lipstick, seemed easier to apply, though I don't own either.

  17. Oh! I think I just died and went to heaven! From the look of the colors on this post I already want everyone of them! I hope hope the formula is as wonderful as the colors look!

  18. I've never seen this before, I guess NYC are stepping up their game huh?

  19. Since one person said they taste and smell bad, I am not going to buy them, because I would just have to return them, no matter how pretty they are.

  20. I bought Empire Lilacs - I thought there were some very pretty colors to chose from. The smell is strong and unpleasant - a really cheap lipstick scent, the smell wore off after awhile and i didn't notice a taste. The color was nice and lasted fairly well. I like the split lipstick idea- just 1 tube to carry around for multiple looks. I like the texture better than the Cover Girl double ended lipstick, I just wish they'd fix the smell.

  22. I found these on display today at Rite Aid and was so excited. I had to have The Empire Lilacs. However, I was dissapointed. In the store it looked purple-ish, but when I got it home and swatched it it's fuschia. Definitely more pink than purple...and so the hunt continues for a purple lipstick. :(

  23. I bought The Waldorf Roses today and was super disappointed. It's so pretty in the tube but when I put it on it was SUPER pink, like 80's pink, on me. Also it immediately settled into every single crease in my lips. It's going back tomorrow. I'm willing to try again though if I can find The Cafe Cuties.
