Spotted: new Soho makeup brushes

You might already be familiar with the brand Soho--they're probably best known for their super-cute beauty cases (their Pretty in Pink collection is adorable). Well I'm excited to tell you that they've expanded their brand to include cosmetic bags AND makeup brushes, and the new brushes have recently been spotted at both Walgreens and Walmart.

Reader Heatherann spotted this display at her local Walgreens and was nice enough to share:

The lovely Rai of Glam Morena recently spotted another Soho brush display, this time at Walmart. This appears to be a completely different line (pink metallic handles, different brushes, etc.):

The prices at Walmart range from $5.97 for the smaller brushes to $8.97 for the larger brushes. The kits retail for $11.98.

My pal Jess purchased two of these brushes at Walmart and was nice enough to share a close-up:

If you go on the Soho website, the information on their brush collections is "coming soon". The good news is that the site says their products are available at Walgreens, Walmart, Target, CVS and Harmon, so hopefully we'll all be able to find these brushes in our areas soon.

Thanks so much, Heatherann, Rai and Jess for the great scoop and pics!

Have you spotted these brushes at Walgreens or Walmart yet? If so, have you purchased anything? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Saw the collection in my Walgreens yesterday and picked up the beauty sponge (haven't tried it yet but seems like it's in between the beauty blender and the Ulta one). The brushes feel amazing! So excited for this new collection at drugstores. -Ashley

  2. Tried one of the tester brushes at Walgreens on my hand and gah it was rough. These don't look really nice either. The beauty sponge looks interesting but the idea of using sponges again is eh (sponges harbor bacteria). I got one of their make up cases for xmas and it's so cute! It even locks.

  3. Nice. Can't wait to see them at the local drug stores.

  4. I've really been wanting to get a beauty blender. This might just be the excuse I was waiting for! I saw a budget-friendly one at Ulta but passed on it at the time (didn't have the money & thought it'd fall apart). I'm happy to see this is available at Walmart & Walgreens. I shall have to pick one up when I see these next to use with my Photoready Airbrush foundation ;)

  8. I can't wait to read some reviews. It's always great to find inexpensive brushes that work well. I just can't see paying MAC prices when these, or ELF, or Ecotools, or Sonia Kashuk etc are perfectly fine.

  9. I had to go to two different Walmarts in the last few days and each of the Walmarts have a different display. The "fancier" Walmart have the brushes in the first picture while the "dirtier" Walmart (their cosmetic section is nasty) have the pink ones.

I found the stippling brush to be too thin and not dense enough. It felt flimsy. I know what it reminds me of... the stupid "Whisper" brush from GoGoGirlfriend. It's that thin. I like my stippling brush to be more dense yet soft enough for my face and this one didn't feel dense enough for me.

The shadow brushes look nice however feeling the brushes felt too rough for me especially compared to EcoTools which was a couple of feet away. Some people may like these brushes but I found the Studio Tools (also at Walmart) to be a bit better than these, least to my touch.

  13. I bought 2 of the pink handle brushes and the 5 piece black set from Walmart. I cannot afford expensive brushes so I don't have any comparison to them. But honestly these brushes feel amazing compared to the ones I have. So for the price I think its worth the buy. I also played with the brushes, sweeping them back and forth and tugging on them and no hairs came loose. All in all I am very happy I bought them. For the budget conscious gal these would be great additions. I will definitely buy some more!

  14. I picked up the Crease Brush from my local Walmart, and it works well for blending. It's not the softest brush out there but for $5, it's worth it. I just wish the actual set included the eye brushes that were individually sold.

  15. I picked up the beauty sponge at my local walgreens. I didnt want to spluge on the original beauty blender so i figured 7.99 was worth the risk. i really don't like using full coverage foundation because whether I use a makeup brush or my fingers to apply my makeup it always ends up looking a bit cakey. I'm so glad i purchased this little pink sponge beacause it's simply wonderful. I used it with my NARS sheer glow foundation and it left me looking airbrushed. My foundation has never looked so flawless. I use mac and sigma brushes but now i'm thinking about trying there brushes.

  16. I just bought the highlighter brush today (stippling brush) but they call it highlighter. I was excited when I saw it sold at CVS but not too excited about the price. For a drug store sold brush that is not popular, $16.99 +tax is way too much. I even got the blush brush for $14.99+tax at Walgreens. If I don't feel these brushes work as good as it cost, IT'S GOING BACK for a refund!

  17. Saw these at cvs and duane reade, but each brush was 19.99 for the face brushes, and i noticed a discrepency in the highlighter brush which looks like a dupe for the 187 or 188 stippling brush, i opened the package to see the density of the hairs, and one was more dense then the other so you have to check these boxes first before you buy, and they were 20$ and not at all the same quality as mac, etc. It was like the elf stippling brush and thats 3.00 im shocked at the prices listed above because those are not the new york city prices. The new york city prices of course are sky high. In fact i found a great dupe to the 188 stippling brush at rite aid for 7.00 and it was buy one get one free they are called rite aid renewal brushes, these are great brushes! Especially if you can get them on sale, there are some rave reviews about them on youtube. I did find a more similar dupe to 187 brush in the alicia silverstone ecotools package i also want to gete the finishing brush from eco tools since that is also considered a dupe to 187 dont know which one its called but it came with a very good stippling brush that i would reccomend over all of the above. But soho london highighting brush which is a stippling brush also, duo fiber, its pretty flimsy and not constructed very well nor is the blush brush from that line, and its 19.99 each for the face brushes. I dont know the price of the other ones but here in new york city obviously we are being charged more which really irritates me, cause i see in the photo good prices for these brushes, yet at rickys they are very expensive and also at duane reades look ny locations they are expensive, and same thing at cvs. Makes no sense that its from the drugstore its plastic handle, and its flimsy bristles, and they charge 20$ a brush might as well go to sephora.

  18. Saw these brushes at my local Walgreens and decided to add the black handled brushes (called the Soho Professional Brushes) to my collection. You definitely have to inspect the brushes in the boxes because there can be some difference in thickness and softness. Overall, I found them to be soft and the handles light and well-made. I didn't find any scratchy brushes either among the testers or the actual brushes in the boxes. The collection seems very well thought out and consists of shapes that are very popular now for applying makeup such as the angle eyeshadow, crease brush and small shader. The angle blush is great for contouring and both the powder and kabuki brushes are both soft but not flimsy. The highlighting brush that I found was soft yet dense enough; although there were some that were slightly less dense so you have to check the package especially for this model. I have had no shedding issues with any of the brushes. Overall, I find them to be an excellent addition to my makeup routine.

    1. One last thing I forgot to mention: the Kabuki brush is amazingly soft. The handle fits comfortably in your hand while the base not only allows you to rest the brush upright on a flat surface but also can hold the brush resting on its side after you wash it. Very well thought out. I can apply both loose and pressed powders and get a beautiful airbrushed finish. Definitely a keeper.
