Sally Hansen Pumpkin Spice vs. Wet n Wild Cougar Attack

Since I know a lot of you love both of these shades, and one (or the other) might be difficult for you to locate in your area, I thought it might be helpful to compare the two. Both of these polishes are limited edition, and if you can't find one, you might be happy with the other. Let's take a look:

Left: Sally Hansen Pumpkin Spice (retail: around $2.99)
Right: Wet n Wild Cougar Attack (retail: $1.99)

There are lots of differences between these two shades. The glitter in Pumpkin Spice is orange, while the glitter in Cougar Attack is copper. I think you can really see the difference between the glitter colors in the above pic. Also, the base of Pumpkin Spice is more of a dark charcoal jelly (which gives the glitter a "jelly sandwich" look), while the base of Cougar Attack is a darker black and not as jelly-ish. And finally, the glitter is far more dense in Cougar Attack. In fact, I only needed two coats for great opacity with Cougar Attack (which is what I used in these pics), while Pumpkin Spice required four coats for the opacity you see in my photos.

Believe it or not, in certain lights these two polishes actually look quite similar to each other. I asked my friend if she noticed anything "weird" about my manicure the other day and she actually didn't believe I was wearing two different polishes until she look very closely at my hands. Here are some pics taken indoors, with flash, that illustrate how similar these too shades look in certain lights:

So, in my opinion, if you have one, you probably don't need the other. Hope that helps!

  1. Great comparison! From your photos, I really like Cougar Attack better. I can't say that I like the jelly look of Pumpkin spice. Either way, both are really affordable. Thanks!

  4. If anyone was still looking for Pumpkin Spice, try looking at Meijer where they sell those little pumpkin shaped nail polishes in the Halloween section. They have once that I think is a dupe for Pumpkin Spice. I didn't buy or swatch it, but it looks like a dead ringer.

  5. I proooobably don't need one over the other... but I really liked Cougar Attack better because of the darker base!

  6. I too still like Cougar Attack better which is why I am so eager to find the On the Prowl collection! I saw Pumpkin Spice at Walgreen and thought maybe a good substitute. I think I am going to hold out for a while longer for Cougar Attack. Thank you G.!

  8. I have both, and love them both! Layering pumpkin spice over a black gives you a more subtle glitter, whereas Cougar Attack is more IN YOUR FACE. So just depends on what look you wanna go for.

  12. Very nice comparison! Your pics do make them look quite similar, but on me, the Sally Hansen base pulled much more greenish than the WnW one. They look completely different to me in real life. So maybe it depends on skin tone or something similar.

  14. Thanks for the comp. I think I prefer Cougar attack even though I will probably end up with both.

  15. I love your mani! Gorgeous colors for the fall! :) I'm definitely going to check out Wet N Wild's version of this polish since it seems to be cheaper and requires only 2 coats. I have two of the Sally Hansen Xtreme polishes in Lacey Lilac and Mint Sorbet and the polish is EXTREMELY thin and chips easily. I love the colors and the price, but the quality isn't all that good.

  16. Kinda shocking that pumpkin spice is gorgeous in the bottle similar to the debra lippman color and cougar attack is really glittery. I'd have to say the cougar attack is much more appealing I guess over a black base pumpkin spice would be back but WnW is a bit cheaper and I like it better. Thanks so much for this review otherwise I'd have picked Sally's over WnW due to how it looked in the bottle lol.

  17. From what I'd heard about Pumpkin Spice, I thought I'd like it the best- but no, I'm actually surprised to say that Cougar Attack is my favorite of the two! I'm a dedicated WnW fan to the last... what can I say? (And they have the BEST lipsticks!) =)
