Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers 2011 (Part 1)

NOTE: For a comprehensive list of every product in the Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers 2011 Collection (including images, prices and shade names) please click here.

It's that time of year again, lovelies! Wet n Wild's Halloween line, Fantasy Makers, has landed in stores (I know this because I've heard from many of you who have already spotted displays) and, in fact, I spotted a few displays myself at Rite Aid the other day.

Wet n Wild sent me a nice selection of products from this year's collection (note: they did not send me everything, so I will try to get pics of the products I've seen in stores that I'm NOT covering in this series).

So for part one, I thought I'd cover all of the glittery products. Please check back tomorrow for part two of this series. Let's get started!

I love the tombstone-shaped bottles that Wet n Wild uses for the Fantasy Makers polishes. I'm glad to see they used them again this year, since I actually LOVE holding this handle when I paint my nails. It fits nicely in my hand and it's easy to grip.

Black Magic is a black polish that takes two coats for full opacity. There is multi-colored micro-glitter in this polish as well:

I didn't have enough sunlight when I took these pics of my mani, so what you see here is artificial lighting, which does nothing to showcase the micro-glitter:

I'm going to try to get some shots bright and early tomorrow because this polish is so pretty in full sunlight. The micro-glitter is not really rainbow-colored; think deeper, amber shades with bits of green and purple. The glitter is so fine that it almost looks like very sparse shimmer on the nail. I LOVE this one.

NOTE: there are swatches at the end of this post for all of the following products.

What would Halloween be without glitter gel? I always love the Fantasy Makers glitter gel because it comes in good-sized pump bottle. Plus, the gel itself smells like watermelon.

As you can see, this gel contains large and small hexagonal glitter.

I can't recall if there was a holographic glitter in last year's Fantasy Makers collection (I think so), but it's always fun to see it again.

I'm SO happy to see the Fantasy Makers Glitter Eyeliners again this year. In fact, I reviewed Mystical and the green liner back in 2009! I'm happy to report that Mystical is exactly as I remember it from two years ago (more on that in a bit).

Cryptic and Magical both contain glitter in a clear base (silver glitter in Cryptic; blue and teal glitter in Magical).  Mystical has a pigmented base (purplish-plum) with multi-colored glitter. You can really see the multi-colored glitter in Mystical above.

As you can see, these liners have a brush applicator that's very fine, making it perfect for what I personally use them for: as a glittery top-coat over another, darker liner. For instance, Cryptic looks amazing over a jet-black liner, while Magical looks gorgeous over either a blue or green liner. I'd say Mystical is the only one that's really built to wear by itself, but even that one looks amazing layered over a darker liner.

As I said in my 2009 review, these liners don't budge once they set. The staying power's pretty impressive.

Here are some swatches (enlarge for a much better look):

And OF COURSE, I had to put the holographic glitter on one of my nails!

To do this, I applied a clear top coat to my ring finger, and then sprinkled the holo glitter onto my nail while the top coat was still wet. I then waited several minutes for it to dry, and then topped it off with another layer of top coat. Instant holo nail polish!

Please check tomorrow for part two of this series--I've got lots more Fantasy Makers goodies to show you!

In the meantime, have you spotted the 2011 Fantasy Makers displays in your area yet? If so, have you purchased anything?

  5. Ill have to check at Rite Aid this weekend when I go to the next town. I found one of those super secret Rite Aids that you talked about one time that has all the goodies. My Rite Aid will probably get them but chances are the one in the next town probably already has them. Wags is usually pretty good about having Fantasy Makers stuff at least they did last yr. But im gonna probably get a couple of the liners and the nail polish. My daughter and I will enjoy it.

  7. I love the tombstone polishes. It's nice to see that there will be a different shade to add to my cemetery.
    :)

I'll let you know when I spot them here.

  12. Sadly these look pretty much the same as last years. The holo glitter from last year is almost exactly the same and they eyeliners are pretty much the same too except that they are different colors. I think that there was purple, green and silver glitter liners last year. I was hoping for some really amazing glitters this year, especially in the nail polish department. Thanks for this post though, its always nice to know ahead of time how much money you'll be needing for upcoming collections!

  15. I think I'm going to have to get this year's Black Magic polish since I don't have black glitter polishes in my collection and the packaging is just too cute. I have the Fantasy Makers Black Magic tombstone polish from 2 years ago and it's completely different (clear with multicolored bar glitter). I wonder why they didn't change the name.

  17. Hello :) Im new on here but I do have a question for anyone who'd like to answer, what stores typically carry the WNW fantasy makers collections? I wasnt sure how much info they would have given u as a WNW ambassador but Im just asking so I have a better idea of which stored to stalk, and about when to expect them if u have that info :) thanks and im looking forward 2 part two!!

  18. Same stuff from last two years so far. How disappointing! Hopefully they've added new stuff but at the same time I'm hoping they bring back the Glam Ghoul Duos since I need Vamp again (the black/red duo) along with the other eight duos.

I noticed in the liners you only showed three. Is Secrecy not making a return this year?

Oh and yes, the holographic glitter did appear last year - #11329 Glitz (silver) and #11330 Glamour (blue)

That made me laugh out loud!

  21. Do you know if the confetti is eye-safe?
I LOVE the tombstone nail polish! The color isn't terribly unique, but the bottle makes me want to buy it anyway!

  22. askwillis: I *think* they're around $1.99 each. :)

Nadia: Nice to hear from you! And you are so welcome. :)

Cynthia: As I stated at the top of the post, this is NOT the entire collection. I actually saw those little eyeshadow duo/lipstick/polish kits again this year at my Rite Aid (will try to get pics!) and there's some new polishes (a pretty blue glitter and a pink glitter). There's much more this year, I believe. :)

Kate: Did you check my interactive maps?

Mimsy: Good to know about last year's polish. Interesting that they kept the name but changed the polish!

Kbear11: They usually pop up at Rite Aid and Walgreens. I don't recall seeing them at CVS but that may change this year since a lot more CVS locations are now offering Wet n Wild.

Zadidoll: Re: the eyeliners, I don't know if the green one is making a comeback this year, as WnW didn't send me *everything* in the collection. And good news: I saw the red/black e/s duo at Rite Aid yesterday. It's back! With some new mini polishes too.

robin: On The Prowl IS WnW's Halloween polish collection. Fantasy Makers is a completely different line by WnW. They release Halloween stuff every year under the Fantasy Makers name. Hope that clears it up.

Emmanem: Good question! I didn't see anything about it on the label, so I'm checking with WnW and will leave a comment hear when I find out.

  23. I bought the holo glitter and the teal glitter liner last year. The confetti has amazing rainbow holo shine, it's awesome! I was disappointed with the liner though, hardly any glitter came off when I used it.

I'm kinda excited for the Halloween season again, I love Wet n Wild! Thanks for sharing<3

  24. Oh I'm glad there is more glitter stuff! Thanks for telling me! Now we're talking! =) To me its not Halloween if it's not super glittery! Lol

  25. I literally said, "YES!" when I read the duos were spotted. I LOVE those duos. I'm soooo stocking up as soon as one of my local stores has it. I'll check Fred Meyer tomorrow.

  26. I swatched the "Black Magic" shade and Sally Hansens' "Midnight In New York" on a nail wheel and its a great dupe . Actually , it's even better because MINY is really thin and takes several coats to cover any visible nail line. BM takes only 2 coats. :) I also bought the black lipstick to layer with brighter shades. It is a much better quality than I expected for a Halloween product.

  27. I would love to try out that nail polish! I am going to have to pick it up!

  28. Just grabbed the holo glitter at one of those 'super secret' Rite Aids (in Towanda PA in the shopping center where Burger King is, for anyone local..they have EVERYTHING.)
