The Wednesday Question

This question came to me in my sleep the other night. I literally woke up and grabbed my phone so I could jot it down and not forget it. I hope I'm not the only one this happens to, but I guess we'll see by your responses!

Is there a popular drugstore product or brand (cosmetics, skincare, haircare, etc.) that seems to work for everyone BUT you?

Please tell me I'm not alone here! There are a few drugstore brands and products that work for lots and lots of people, but I can never seem to make them work for me. For instance, I know that so many of you adore Garnier Fructis haircare. But for some reason, just about every Garnier Fructis product I've ever used has seemed to let me down in one way or another. I'm convinced that there are certain ingredients (or perhaps it's a certain mixture of ingredients) in the products in this line that just simply do not agree with my particular hair type. Whatever the reason, I wish that Garnier worked for me because I hear so many raves from others who have great success with this line. Also, their products are so accessible and often go on sale and have coupons!

So how about you? Any brand or product out there that seems to work for everyone BUT you?

  1. I know lots of people just love Hard Candy's Glamoflage, but I HATE it! It just doesn't work with my skin.

  2. Oh my gosh, I was thinking about this just the other day! You're definitely not alone. I always have such high hopes for Neutrogena products (particularly cleansers), but they *always* break me out. So frustrating!

  3. Maybelline Great Lash mascara! A classic favorited by makeup artists and women everywhere-does nothing for me. I tried it a bunch of times and it always flakes and runs. No love for the Lash from me.

  4. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Foundation does NOT agree with my skin! It blends beautifully but breaks my (normally very tolerant/NOT acne prone) skin out!!

  6. Cover Girl Lash Blast (in a few varieties)

It's okay; I guess...just nothing special for me.

  7. Maybelline Great Lash, e.l.f.'s $1 eyeshadow brush, Maybelline Color Sensational lipsticks, Almay makeup removers..the list goes on and on! Makeup is all trial and error indeed +nods head+

  8. for me its anything neutragena or nivea. For some reason both those brands either break me out or give me a rash

  9. definitely any Loreal mascaras! I think I've tried EVERY mascara they have, but none ever worked for me! lol!

  10. Totally agree with glitterchick. I LOVE Maybelline's mascaras, but Great Lash... not that great for me. :)

  11. Most ELF products. Pantene. Any and all Pantene products!

  12. Oh yeah, Garnier fructis undereye roller, puffed my eyes up so big and took a week to go down. Maybeline great lash, Frizz ease, horrible. My favorite makeup remover that doesn't burn my eyes out of my head, up and up makeup magician from Target.

  13. WnW. I love their nail polishes, but everything else I've tried by them has been a huge disappointment. Yes, even the eyeshadow.

  14. oh gosh yes. Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara does nothing for me. Most of the ELF products such as their tinted moisturizer, eye primer, and some eyeshadows. I got such a bad reaction to those things that I had to go to the doctor and get a topical steroid cream for the areas on my face/eyes that it was used. Hard Candy glamouflage concealer did nothing for my dark circles either. I guess they are just too dark and it seemed very drying and gross after application. I'm sure there are many more but too much for right now. I love this question by the way!!

  15. There are two hair care products: Infusium and John Frieda products. They don't leave my hair soft and Frieda actually tangles my hair.

  16. Oh, I must agree on Rimmel Sexy Curves. I bought waterproof, it was awful. Not because it didn't give me my desired lash look, but because I didn't get any product I could use! The bottle was dry as a desert. :O

  17. lash blast didn't work for me I felt like the only person in the world who hated it

  18. Revlon Colorstay Foundation...It's just not a good foundation for me. I tried the oil free one and the moisturizing one. Also, I can't stand the smell of it.

  19. L'Oreal voluminous mascara flakes all over my face and Revlon color stay actually made my face sweat something awful. Who knew a foundation could do that. Great question by the way!

  20. i can't use garnier either it seems, not the hair care anyway. the dye works fine, but the shampoos...oh no, the conditioners...total nightmare here. and that's one of those products i would really like to use, they smell so nice.
    :(

  21. Any Sally Hansen product. I know a lot of people love their top coats, but for me, they do nothing. My nails chip right away. Also the complete manicure polishes work great for my friend, but not for me. I'm so done spending any of my hard earned money on Sally Hansen products.

  22. I have agreed before in one of your reviews about Garnier not ever working for me, too. But now I may have to eat my words. I just tried the new leave-in conditioner with argan oil and, although I am still testing it out, it may be what I have been searching desperately for. I hope so!

Aussie products don't work for me either (again with the exception of their deep conditioner which I have only used once and liked the results but I need to use it a few more times before I can truly embrace it).

  23. I can honestly say that i enjoy cosmetics from all the brands. im sure that their is certain products from certain lines that i have not cared for. But i definetly do not like pantene anything. plus i tend to use alot of salon haircare.

  24. Most L'Oreal products don't work for me - the foundations make me break out, eyeshadows disappear & the mascaras give me eye infections. Also haven't had much success with anything Almay, Nivea or Rimmel. I love Revlon lipsticks but not much of anything else, esp nail polish (altho I like the Top Speeds.) Great question! Nice that drugstores have come around to taking returns, too.

  25. wow-all of the lovely ladies beat me to it!

I have particular issues with Hard Candy foundations-they are so yellow to me, and just don't work with my fair, pink undertoned skin.
Their primers are also a no-go.

Glad you mentioned Garnier hair care, G. I think that they changed the formula when they brought this to the US because when I used this is Europe/Canada (years ago), it seemed magical. Now? Not a chance...I would rather not shampoo!

    Great question!

  26. Neutrogena skincare (not sunscreen, for some reason, but facewashes, etc) and foundation aggrivate my acne really badly :(

  27. Last summer everyone on YT raved about Maybelline's Dream Smooth Mousse foundation so when I saw it I bought a few. Holy fail! I hated it. I tried to apply it with my fingers,brush,sponge...eeeek! It was awful for my oily skin.

  28. I am afraid to say that for me its WNW lip products and eye shadows. I get a streaky mess in no time from the shadows (i dont often wear them anyway) and the lip products just dry right out on my
however I think NutraKris may have convinced me to try again...

  29. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation was a huge fail for me. Also I don't get the fuss about the EOS lip balms, sure they come in cute packaging but they work like crap

  30. Cover Girl Lash Blast does not work for me, horrible did nothing for my lashes. Pantene and Garnier hair products dry out my hair. Maybelline Fit Me products are an oily mess on my skin, the same goes for Revlon Photoready foundations. Rimmel Sexy Curves dislike over here too. LOL I bought the w/p formula and it was heavy, thick and was so waxy it weighed down my lashes and never really seemed to dry. I also experienced that with their Lash Accelerator, I don't think I'll be trying any more of their mascaras.

  31. Oh yes! ANY Neutrogena facial products...breaks me out so badly!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Any China Glaze nail polish. It either drys weird, isn't opaque after even 3 or 4 coats, or it chips after a few hours. The only ones that have worked for me are their crackles and Four Leaf Clover. I got For Audrey to work once. It works and looks great on everybody else, just not me ):

  33. Cover Girl Last Blast, Cover Girl Last Blast Luxe and Cover Girl Last Blast Fusion. It isn't the large brush, but I cannot get the formula to do anything for my lashes. I use Rapidlash and with my other mascaras I have my lashes touching my skin, but not with Lash Blast. I even through out a tube and bought a new one originally thinking I had a bad tube...then I tried the new formulas. I really gave it many tries with different curlers and a primer, no luck. I hated it, because I really wanted to love it especially for the sake of using it in videos for those that it really works well for..sorry:( xoxo Jennifer

  34. - elf dollar brushes (the eye shadow brush particularly; all of the bristles wouldn't stop falling out of both of mine until the rest of the bristles fell out in one chunk)
    - almay makeup remover and the revlon colorstay liquid liner sting my eyeLIDS- my eyes are light sensitive, but no other products have ever stung my actual eyelids
-maybelline collosal mascara- too much flaking!

  35. Those l'oreal face washes with the little scrubby thing you pop out of the bottle. HATED IT
