Everybody's got their limits when it comes to what they'll pay for a makeup product, right? And I know you've got your limits even when it comes to drugstore makeup. So today I'd like to know:
When shopping at the drugstore, what's the most you will pay for a makeup item?
Now I know that foundation is typically the most expensive drugstore makeup item you can buy, but other products such as mascara, eyeshadow palettes and even lipsticks can get pretty pricey too (we're not counting skincare today--just makeup). So generally speaking, what's THE MOST you'll pay for a drugstore makeup item? $13.99? $10.99? $8.99?
PS: Hard to find or discontinued products on ebay don't count, and products from other countries don't count--I'm only talking about regular products you can find at your local drugstore.
My answer: I tend to draw the line at $9.99. This doesn't mean that I don't buy drugstore products that retail for over $9.99, but for THOSE products, I wait for sales and/or use coupons.
I'm the same way. If it's over $9.99, I'm not going to buy it, until there's a sale or coupon for it. If I'm going to spend $12 or more on a makeup item, I'll head over to the big names and buy from there.
ReplyDeleteI dont like Loreal prices but I will pay whatever Revlons asks LOL
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time crossing the $8 line. I've spent more on foundation before I found my cheap HG, but these days if one product is more than $8 I think I'd pass it up. That's for pretty much anything-makeup, skincare, & hair care.
ReplyDeleteI'd say around six, I'm such a cheapo. xD
ReplyDeleteBut I too wait for the sales to buy anything over that.
$9.99 for me G. and even then I am thinking I'd prefer to wait for a coupon! I don't really bother much for BOGO 1/2 unless there is a coupon either...
ReplyDeleteI guess about $6. I was gonna say I don't like anything less than a 40% off sale (though I do pay retail once in a blue moon).
ReplyDeleteI agree. I won't buy anything over 9.99 without some kind of discount. If it's more than 9.99, I might as well buy something from MAC or Sephora.
ReplyDeleteI can do up to $8.99 at the drugstore. After that... I'll wait for a coupon or BOGO.
ReplyDeleteId say about 6 or 7 bucks. but i do tend to spend more on haircare products so i need to save on makeup lol.
ReplyDeleteI try to wait for coupons, but my mascara's around $10, and if I ran out, I'd pay that. My foundation's around $12 and I'd probably pay that, too, but I'd have a little more warning that I'm getting close to running out, since it's in a jar. So less likely to be surprised and in a jam. :D
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've spent more than $8 and change for anything. I bought two Essie polishes at Walmart for like $8.49 each or whatever they were charging, when they first showed up. Those were my first Essies and I was so excited to see them.
ReplyDeleteAs a general rule though, I balk at over $5, I'm a cheapie too, it has to be something really special, like limited edition and getting great reviews before I consider going over that, and never over $10, but like you said, it could be over $10 regularly priced but I just wait for sales/coupons.
$9 for me as well. I've noticed that mascara prices are creeping upwards lately...
ReplyDeleteFor lip products, it's closer to $6.50, and for drugstore nail polish I really don't like to pay over $3.50 unless it's something really special.
These days I always wait for sales before I pick anything up from a drugstore, and BOGO 50% off doesn't count as sales to me :)
ReplyDeleteAcross the board, I'm going to go with $10.99, any more than that I might as well visit a makeup counter/dept. store - and I always wait for a sale and use my coupons!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever paid more than 7 dollars for anything.. and this is getting Revlon colorstay foundation for that price :0!! I usually wait patiently for great sales and have coupons on hand :). Usually it will be less than 6 unless it is a new product or LE. I have bought full price before and that is wet n wild comfort zone. Still under 5 though :).
ReplyDeleteI've paid $14 for a foundation before. It depends on the product if it'll break out my skin.
ReplyDeleteBut for eye makeup, blush or bronzer I'll pay max $9.99
Straight up, no discounts or rebates I'd have to say $7 is my limit. I guess it's hard for me to pay more because I know there is going be either a)a coupon, b)a sale, c)some sort of rebate on drugstore items at some point.
ReplyDelete$5 is the most I'll pay out of pocket for a single makeup item. If the retail price is higher I'll wait for a sale and combine with coupons and store points (ECB, register rewards, etc). For nail polish my limit is $3 retail.
ReplyDelete$15 for L'Oreal Mousse foundation. I try to find it on sale.
ReplyDeleteI try not to buy from the drugstores(unless I have coupons or it's a really good buy)because I think they're a ripoff. I stick to Walmart&Target. If I absolutely HAVE to buy something,I'd say between $8-10.
ReplyDeleteWhat I like to pay and what I'm willing to pay don't always match. I find that when a product is not over $8, I feel it's a fair shake. But when I see $15 or more for drugstore products....not so good. $5 is the most I LIKE to pay for polish. Most companies are keeping it at that, at the drugstore level. I love the look of OPI Designer Polishes, I'm just not willing to spend $12 on them.
ReplyDeleteI say $10 is my limit, too, but it's also dependent on the brand. I would pay money for Revlon or Physicians Formula. Most other brands...I will wait for a good coupon!
ReplyDeleteUsually I draw the line at 8.00 unless its something I really want. Normally I will wait for sales either bogo or a certain percent off
ReplyDeletei would say 9 dollars is the limit for me xD. Anything over that i would wait for a discount
ReplyDeleteI wanted Revlon Colorstay Foundation for so long, but I saved my CVS bucks as I will pay $9more for a great Clinique foundation first. In a nutshell, a mascara is the most I will pay at $7.99 and the other item has to be BOGO otherwise, I will even wait on that $7.99 mascara. I am a sale girl:)
