Japan

It's hard to write about makeup today when so much devastation is going on in Japan. Since I'm on the west coast, I watched things unfold on the news in real-time last night and was in tears for a good portion of the night.

I personally know beauty bloggers who reside in Japan and I have yet to make contact with any of them, which is leaving me very tense and uneasy. I also have Japanese readers who visit my blog, and I've been wondering about them all night as well, hoping that they and their friends and families are all safe.

If you are a fellow blogger or reader of this blog and you're in Japan, please know that our hearts are with you right now. I know that internet service is probably unreliable at this time, so I'm not expecting you to leave comments on this post to let us know you're alright. However, if you DO see this post and you're in a position to be able to comment, PLEASE do.

I also have friends and family who live on some of the Pacific Islands that were under tsunami watch, but it looks like the worst has passed and they're all going to be OK, which is giving me so much comfort today.

I hope that if you have family or friends in Japan or in any of the areas under tsunami watch, that you've been able to make contact with them and that they're all safe and out of harm's way.

Thanks for reading this--I just had to get this out before I begin with my "regular" blogging for the day.

Love,
G.

  2. Yes I am so sad with what has happen in japan and with all the thing that are happening around the world. We have to keep all theses people that are going through this horrible time in there life in our prayers. We also must pray for the president. He has a lot going in his plate. I pray that God guides him and helps him make choices that are difficult to make.

  4. Beautiful post! My heart is breaking too for the people of Japan. Of all the countries in the world, they are the most prepared for a tsunami or a major earthquake (a 8.9 one!! Oh the shock of it!) and, yet, they are STILL suffering immensely. I love makeup too but I echo your sentiments. How can we talk lighthearted when so many are in pain? :'(

  10. We've been on alert since the earthquake happened and luckily the friends I have in Japan have all reported in safe via Facebook--social networking + Internet is incredible. The flooding and destruction is shocking. For those who are looking for information on loved ones in Japan, hopefully this will help--Google threw together a Japan Person Finder here (English version): http://japan.person-finder.appspot.com/?lang=en

LadyLuck: I know, honey. I've been crying all night watching that footage. *hugs*

ellyp: Thanks so much for that comment. I agree--it's difficult to write about beauty after something like this, but I'm going to try to provide a diversion for those who need or want it, I guess. :)

cutiegingerbread: I love you right back, girlie. xo

Anna Elizabeth: You are so welcome. It would have felt really weird to NOT have acknowledged it, you know? *hugs*

Arie: Thank you, honey. And yes, let's hope to hear good news from all bloggers and readers in that area.

  12. I feel the same way! I have made many friends online in Japan since I started learning Japanese a few months ago. I've made contact with most but I'm still worried.. =/

  13. Serena: I'm so happy to hear you've made contact with most of your friends. As for the ones you haven't spoken to yet, it's a hopeless feeling, isn't it? I am hoping everything's ok and that we'll hear from everyone in a few days.

  14. My family lives in Tokyo, and they are safe! So good to hear that. My little sisters just had an earthquake drill at school YESTERDAY. Isn't that crazy? God was looking out for them.

  16. My friend's brother and his fiance are in Okinowa, which is south of Japan, and I don't think she's heard from him yet, and my other friend has a lot of friends over there. We've all been crying all day ): I really do hope everybody is alright and safe <3

  17. I don't know if Nevertoomuchglitter is one of the beauty bloggers you know, but she's okay; she checked in.

Its hard to imagine the scope of the damage; I'm an EMT and a firefighter AND a 911 dispatcher and the logistics of rescue and remediation even based on what little I know boggle my mind.

  18. xXMaryRevolutionXx: I am so sorry to hear that your friend has yet to make contact with her brother or fiance yet. My prayers are with them and I hope she hears from them SOON. xo

Shieldmaiden96: Oh wow, my bro is an EMT too (he's not a firefighter AND dispatcher though--you've got tons of certifications, girl!!). But yeah, I cannot imagine the search and rescue/recovery efforts that are going on over there right now, and the obstacles they're facing. It's something that weighs heavily on all of us, I know.
