Great deal on TIGI at Walgreens

Thanks to those of you who tipped me off about this clearance at Walgreens! Unfortunately, I have also heard some feedback that some of you are not seeing these deals at your locations, so once again, it really depends on your individual store.

The bottom line is this: at some locations, select TIGI products are now 75% off. At my Wags, I was only able to find this, but since I'm running low on conditioner at the moment, it was perfect timing:

TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Curly Hair Conditioner
(regular retail price: around $15. SALE PRICE: $4.19)

I can't remember the exact retail price at my Walgreens (the website says $14.99) but all I know is that the clearance sign said "NOW: $4.19" and that's good enough for me!

I just wanted to give you a heads-up about this in case you're a TIGI fan. Check your Wags and see what you can find!

Have you already spotted TIGI haircare on clearance at your local Walgreens? If so, did you pick up anything?

  2. It got discontinued :( I went to buy a liter of this at Ulta and the guy was like.. 'sorry honey, they discontinued it for their anti-dote line.' BOO! I guess now I'm gonna go stock up on some at Walgreens! ^_^

  4. EEEK!!! i advise people read up on diversion. pro products being sold at unauthorized stores (not salons). could be old, counterfeit, tampered with, etc.
i tested this theory and its true.
'guaranteed only if sold by professional'. check the back of every bottle of pro products.

  5. I agree with Kalee. I wouldn't advise to buy any "salon" brands from grocery or drugstores. Look up product diversion and you will see why. Plus, they are usually price gouged at these places. It's most of the time cheaper to buy from a salon and you know you are getting the real thing. There is even a video on product diversion that is very alarming. I think you can find it on youtube or on redken.com. If you click on the bottom of the Redken homepage it will say Anti-Diversion Policy. Click on that then click on Investigative Video.

  6. lindah: Awww bummer! I hope I don't fall in love with this then! lol. Thanks for the heads-up. :(

    Hana: Congrats! :)

Kalee and Jessica: Thanks for your comments and info. This seems to come up every few months and I thought I'd take a minute to share my thoughts on it. First of all, I'm not *advising* anyone to buy salon products outside of salons. I'm simply sharing my experiences and information. If you've purchased TIGI or other salon haircare outside of a salon in the past and you feel comfortable with purchasing these clearance items at Walgreens, great. But with everything discussed here, I'm not responsible for any tampered/counterfeit, products you may encounter.

That said, I think it depends on where you buy these products, and your own comfort level. Since Walgreens, Target, etc. have sold salon brands for many, many years now, I personally feel like they must be working with trusted suppliers and wouldn't want to risk selling "shady" products on an national level. Some may disagree, and of course that's just my opinion. I've heard arguments on both sides and heard some people argue that that some salons or brands may try to scare consumers so that they continue to buy at salons because often the prices are higher at salons (again, this is just an argument I've heard, I'm NOT saying this is true).

On the other hand, I've been in some SUPER shady beauty supply stores in my time time that sell salon brands and there's no way in HECK I'd trust a product from them, especially when they're selling them way below the regular retail price. So again, I think it all depends on your comfort level, and since I've never had an issue with a product I've purchased at Walgreens before, I'm personally comfortable with this purchase. Thanks again for the good info, which is always welcomed and encouraged here. It's ALWAYS great see things from all sides and I appreciate it!

  7. PS: This is an interesting article that seems to show both sides of the argument. I'm not endorsing this article as FACT, but I do think the author brings up some interesting points:

  8. Thanks for linking the article G! I wasn't really sure what diversion was but the article explained it well and made a lot of sense. I really doubt Tigi isn't fully aware and fully supportive (at least in private) of Walgreens selling their products. Walgreens is a well known national retailer with a trusted reputation. They wouldn't risk that just to sell a certain brand of shampoo.

  9. Yes, thanks for the article G. It just made no sense to me that there is some shady guy selling out of the back of a van to EVERY FRICKING WALGREENS in the country! Besides, I'm old enough to remember when Pantene and Tressemme were salon brands, and you know well and good that those companies are quite happy to sell in every drugstore and mass market retailer now.

With their generous return policies, and litigation happy environment here, very few US drugstores would take the chance of selling possibly rancid or damaging products on their shelves. They are ordering direct from the manufacturer.

  10. nah i wasn't saying that every single item isnt real or that drugstores are carrying defected products (which they wouldnt know anyway). all im saying is be careful because you never know what you are going to get. this act isnt illegal which is why stores are able to do this. why do you think on every bottle it would say that? it has nothing to do with scaring people and making them buy from salons. i tested this theory with a Biolage conditioner found at Walmart and the same one from a salon and it was WAAAAAYYY off! different color, it was watery and it didnt even smell the same. i watched a recording from the news from years ago and they lab tested numerous products and even found fecal like bacteria in one of them.

all im saying is buyer beware.
