I use Dr Bronner's Peppermint Castile Soap. It works well and is cheap, smells good, and the bottle is so huge I can't imagine ever finishing it in my lifetime! :)
I've used ELF brush shampoo and didn't really like it. Also have used Dawn dish soap in the past but for quite some time I have been using Aveeno baby shampoo.
I've been using the remains of a Lush shampoo bar, the Godiva, which has plenty of conditioning ingredients. It makes my brushes super clean, soft, and they smell great. Plus keeping it in my medicine cabinet to clean my brushes with means I get a wif of it every time I open the door.
i'm so glad you asked this b/c i've been struggling with my foundation brushes. they just never seem to be clean- as in when i go to use them after they've been cleaned and air-dried, they quickly clump up. i've tried clarifying shampoo (Suave), hand soap (Softsoap), cleansing oil (Lumene), and makeup remover (L'Oreal).
i think maybe i need to try dish soap or a real brush cleanser.///
my eyeliner, shadow, and blush brushes don't present this difficulty.
I use my Neutrogena Foaming cleanser, it's supposed to be good for cleaning makeup off my face but I only use it when I'm using foundation, which is like twice a year so I just use the rest to clean my brushes from time to time. Works well :)
For deep cleaning I use baby shampoo but for spot cleaning I like to make my own brush cleanser! If you youtube it there are many videos with recipes and it couldn't be easier (or cheaper!)
Lately I've been using my Loreal 360 Cleanser for sensitive skin because I don't really like cleansing my face with it haha. I'm really not too picky with what I use and once in awhile I'll clean my brushes with my shampoo (whatever it may be at that moment).
I really don't think its THAT important what you clean your brushes with as long as you clean them often enough.
I mix antibacterial soap and olive oil together. I put it on a clean glass dish and mix the two like mixing paint. Rinse with warm water and use a brush guard on the brushes in a cup (brushes facing down) to let the excess water drip downward. Never lay your brushes flat, they will dislogde later.
i used to use SoftSoap, but now I used the bareMinerals cleaner once a month, and Sephora's daily brush cleaner.
ReplyDeleteShampoo.....!

ReplyDeleteI clean my brushes with either antibacterial hand soap or E.L.F. brush shampoo. Oh and thank you for reminding me I need to clean my brushes tonight.
ReplyDeleteI either use my Mac brush cleaner or I use a combination of olive oil and a gental face cleanser.
ReplyDeletePut the ingredients into a small dish, brush the brushes in the mixture until all the color is out then rinse well.
The olive oil helps preserve the natural oils in the bristles :)
