Review: CoverGirl Simply Ageless Sculpting Blushes (three shades)

When I purchased my first CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry a few months ago, I went crazy for it (you can see my review with swatches here). I still use it at least three times a week and I'm not even close to hitting pan since you really only need one tiny dab on your fingertip for each cheek (which makes these blushes a sound investment at $11). Lush Berry got me through the heat of summer looking perfect all day and night. I can't think of another cream blush that lasts as long on my oily skin, and it also lives up to its promise of making my cavernous pores appear smaller and smoother. This blush rocks my socks off, so I was thrilled when I recently received some other shades for review.

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blushes
(retail: around $11)

Looking at these shades in their compacts, I find it difficult to really see the differences in color. So I'm thrilled that I have these to swatch for you, so now we can all see the true colors on skin (for the record, I am a MAC NC20):

As you can see, there is no shimmer in these blushes (which I LOVE) and they are nice and creamy to the touch (with thanks to that ribbon of Olay Regenerist Serum running through them). Plush Peach is a true peach creme, Rich Cinnamon is similar to Plush Peach but has a tiny bit more pink in it, and Royal Plum is a nice, very wearable plum shade.

After testing these shades for a few days, here's the most important thing I'd like to stress about them: I think that all three of these shades would be IDEAL for those of you with fair to very fair skin. I know that it's difficult for some of you with fair or porcelain skin to find drugstore blushes that work without making you feel clownish, so I think you might strike gold with any one of these shades.

On my NC20 skin, Plush Peach sort of disappears. I really cannot see it on my cheeks after I blend it, so this leads me to believe that it would deliver a beautiful, subtle flush of peach to fairer skintones.

When I tried Rich Cinnamon, I could see it a tiny bit more than Plush Peach on my skin, but still, it pretty much blended into my natural skintone. Again, this leads me to believe that it would be a very pretty, natural shade on fairer skintones.

Royal Plum delivered a very natural-looking flush to my cheeks, and I love that it looks great whether I'm wearing cool or warm eyeshadows. This was my favorite of the bunch (for my particular skintone).

If your skintone is NC20 or deeper, I would highly suggest starting with Lush Berry if you're interested in trying a Simply Ageless Blush. Lush Berry provides a beautiful glow to my cheeks that is extremely pigmented and can actually be overdone if I'm not not careful with blending (click here for my swatches). For a more natural, subtle look, I will reach for Royal Plum (it would be a great on a low or no-makeup day) but I think I will be skipping Plush Peach and Rich Cinnamon since I think those two shades were really designed with fair and porcelain skintones in mind.

Have you tried CoverGirl Simply Ageless Sculpting Blushes yet? How do you like them? If you have very fair skin, are you considering picking up any of the colors I swatches in this review? I'd love to hear from you!

  3. Thanks so much for the swatches! I've been really into peachy and nude blushes lately and Plush Peach and Rich Cinnamon have been on my list of lemmings for the longest time. I keep waiting and waiting for a BOGOF sale but it's just not happening. I have some $2 CG coupons that are burning a hole in my wallet, just begging to be used. I was so excited to see that Rite Aid's finally having a BOGOF sale on CG next week until I read the fine print which says "excludes Simply Ageless Make-Up." Ack! Why? :(

  4. I have Lush Berry, and have fair skin just like you do, and man can I look like a clown, but I do love the product, just gotta be careful.

I will def check some of those other colors, seeing as they may be more suitable.

  6. I think Plush Peach will also work for people with golden/brown skin. I'm a much darker skintone from you (I'm Indian, btw. my skin color is sort of like Frieda Pinto's, just a touch darker), and I adore both Lush Berry and Plush Peach on me! In fact, I use Plush Peach more often than Lush Berry. I think it really warms up my complexion and gives me a natural flush! This was a great review!

  7. jojoba: Awww, thank you, sweetheart! :) I really hope you love Lush Berry as much as I do. It's the best blush I've tried all year, and I'd love to see you do a review!

Phyrra: You are so welcome! I think Royal Plum would look absolutely gorgeous on you. :)

Mimsy: Yay! I'm so glad I could help! And yeah, I hate it when they do that. :(

michelle anne: Yes, you really have to be careful with that one, but I think I've mastered the technique of getting the perfect amount of product on my finger! I just "tap" my finger on the product (instead of swirling or rubbing) and I swear that picks up the perfect amount for one cheek! :)

LeMIEuXX449: Yay!! I'm SO glad my suspicions were right and that this is a great shade for very fair skin! Thanks SO much for letting me know. :)

xxhyper4sugarxx: Oh wow! I'm so happy to hear that Plush Peach works for you! I think I'll give it another shot and see if I can get it to show up. Thanks! :)
