Today I want to show you the two L.A. Girl Metal Polishes I purchased as part of my recent Cherry Culture order (click here and here for the other polishes I also ordered). The other day when I asked if any of you were sick of my nail posts, I didn't get much feedback (thanks to those who said they enjoy them or can at least tolerate them!) so for now I'll try to keep a good mix of all types of product reviews, but I definitely won't stop with the polish posts because, well, I can't! I love nail polish too much!
Let's start with this one:

L.A. Girl Metal Metallic Nail Polish in Antique Gold
(retail: $4, currently on sale at Cherry Culture for $2.80)
Looking at the swatch on the Cherry Culture site, I was reeeeally hoping that this would be a good dupe of my beloved, and long-ago discontinued, Maybelline Express Finish Khaki Fringe (which I scored at Dollar Tree last winter--click here for that post). Anyway, I put my bottle of Khaki Fringe next to Antique Gold (above) and there's just not enough green in Antique Gold to come close. But really, what was I thinking, buying a shade called "Antique Gold" and hoping it would be a metallic khaki green??
Anyway, I think it's a nice shade for what it is, but I don't know if I like it against my skintone. It applied smoothly and had decent opacity with two coats. It probably could have used three--in the above pics I'm wearing two and if you look closely, you can see a tiny bit of streakiness.
Moving on:
L.A. Girl Metal Metallic Nail Polish in Deep Sea Mica
(retail: $4, currently on sale at Cherry Culture for $2.80)
I probably need another shimmery teal like I need more sugar and salt in my diet. BUT, I am always on the hunt for a teal shimmer that brings something new and interesting to the table. In the above collage, I put Deep Sea Mica next to the following shades in my stash (from L to R): Bleach Black Dickweed, LA Girl Deep Sea Mica, Wet n Wild Morbid, Borghese Menta. I'd say Deep Sea Mica is pretty close to Bleach Black Dickweed, but it doesn't have the duochromey Japanese beetle goodness of Dickweed.
I do think that Deep Sea Mica is a lovely, shimmery, mid-range teal, so if you don't have a shade like this in your collection, and you want one, this would be a great choice. This polish applied smoothly but, as is the case with every shimmery teal I own, it's sheer and requires three coats (I'm wearing three coats in the above pics).
And before I forget, I want to show you what Deep Sea Mica looks like with one of the other polishes I bought from Cherry Cultured layered on top of it:
L.A. Colors Treasure Island layered over L.A. Girl Deep Sea Mica
(for my review of Treasure Island, click here)
In person, this looks 100x prettier than it does in this pic. I am LOVING this combo!
All in all, I'm having a good experience with these L.A. Girl Metals. Although, is it just me or do these not seem to be metallic, but just really, really shimmery?
Do you own any L.A. Girl Metal polishes? What are your favorite shades? I'd love to hear from you!
wow those are beautiful! I love LA Girl lip palettes but other than that I have not tried any other products. I don't do nails or else I'd check out these. Look way nice!
ReplyDeleteyou gotta try its lip palette. THE BOMB!
I missed the chance to comment the other day, but please keep up the nail polish posts, I love them! With so many different polish lines available, it's very helpful to know your thoughts on different things.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried these polishes; still trying to find Milani Metallics in my area. You're right, they mainly look like shimmers - love shimmers, tho :)
Definitely NOT sick of your nail polish posts...keep 'em coming!!!
ReplyDeleteAHHH I love these!!! I have a couple but haven't used them yet. I might need to change that this week.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhh.....aaaahhhhh!
ReplyDeleteSweet!!!
I have yet to try any L.A. Girl nail polish but I want to soon. Don't stop posting nail posts. I love to see different nail polish brands and shades.
ReplyDeleteHow much wear do you get with the LA girl polishes?
ReplyDeleteI've been hoping to find them in stores near me, but so far no luck.
I LOVE the Treasure Island layered over Deep Sea Mica. Now, if I could just find this brand...
