This week's question is one that I really need some help with due to the cold winter weather we're currently experiencing here in Southern California.What's your favorite economical facial moisturizer?
My skin is really taking a beating this winter and I'm afraid that my current moisturizers aren't cutting it. Do you use a wonderful moisturizer that retails for under $20? I'd love to hear about it!
I've been fond of good old Pond's Dry Skin cream. It's a bit heavy, so a little goes a long way...but it really helps with the chapping and irritation of cold weather. It retails at my local (NY) CVS for around $8, and is available lots of other places too.

One of my favorite winter moisturizers is Aveeno's Positively Ageless SPF 30. It's a little thick for any other time of year (and might not be suitable for oily skin), but for my dry winter skin - totally perfect. :) I got my second bottle at Walgreens for about $15, I believe! A little pricey, but it lasts FOREVER. The bottle comes with way more product than most drugstore moisturizers!

ReplyDeleteI've been using the Equate Complete Moisturizer with SPF 15 (I think this is the name) for about a month now and I really love it. It is the best drugstore moisturizer I've tried to date - and I've tried my fair share. It's the Walmart brand version of the Olay Complete SPF 15 moisturizer, which usually is sold for around $10 I believe. The Equate version is a little over $5 for the same size bottle, and judging by reviews on Makeupalley it seems that a lot of people prefer the Equate formula (something about Olay changing their formula recently to include a different sort of sunscreen). I have combination skin so I need the oilier areas to stay under control, but I have some seriously dry patches too that other moisturizers have left flaky in the past. This one really helps to keep my whole face comfortably moisturized, works really well under makeup, hasn't clogged my pores or irritated my super sensitive skin, and contains SPF. Can't ask for much more than that!

ReplyDeleteI usually use Shiseido but I've tried the Night Recharge serum from Biore and it's a nice, cheap alternative. And baby lotion evry once in a while keeps the drier patches of my skin moisturized and soft.
ReplyDeleteWhen money's short and cant go for La Roche Posay, Clean and Clear are great options, Dual Action for those days when i have rebel skin, and Morning Burst for those days when i need an extra shot of light, given that Nivea's Active Energy its been out of the shelves for so long, damn!

I am a big fan of Burt's Bees Marshmallow Vanishing Creme it's smells so good and it works wonders!

I realize it's $18.00 but if you get the face kit of Burt's Bees it comes in a smaller jar with other great face products..and sometimes at CVS or Walgreens they have it on sale..be on the lookout for coupons too. I found a $1.00 off coupon in the Sunday papers.
I have never seen Burt's Bees at any dollar stores,but let me know if you do!
Alba Botanica's Jasmine & Vitamin E cream. It's under $20, it has yummy ingredients, smells FAAABULOUS (well, if you like jasmine I guess?), and you can instantly feel the nourishment your skin gets from it. It's just faaaaabulous. It's my go-to when my skin gets dry.
ReplyDeleteAveeno Positively Radiant spf 15 is the bomb! (and CVS's knockoff version is also great and almost half the price, at least in my area.) Best moisturizer I have used. i occasionally bring out the big guns as needed for extremely dry/flaky skin: a dab of Say Yes to Carrots body lotion, a moisture mask (like Queen Helene's Apricot one) or Vaseline.
ReplyDeleteSometimes you've gotta go back to the basics! My great aunt lived well into her nineties and applied Olive Oil every night. She had the most gorgeous and soft skin I've ever seen in an old woman. That and Avocado Oil! They both have so much good stuff in them and none of the nasty chemicals. They also make the BEST makeup remover I've ever used and are good for your hair! I have terribly dry skin and these both work great. You may not like the oiliness of them though that doesn't last.
ReplyDeleteNEVER use anything with Mineral Oil though! It actually CLOGS your pores and is petro chemical based. Stick with something natural imo!
Different strokes for different folks...Olive oil actually breaks me out terribly while mineral oil doesn't.

I love using olive oil for a number of things, but I have to agree with GlossMenagerie that different people react differently to it, and also to mineral oil. My grandma, who also had the most amazing skin, swore by Pond's Cold Cream, which is loaded with mineral oil. While others with amazing skin swear by baby oil, which is pretty much 100% mineral oil. I say, whatever works for you, great! I'm interested in trying several of these recommendations to see what works best for me. (And I agree about olive oil for removing makeup--I've been using that lately and it's fantastic for me). :)

I've been using the Aveeno Positively Radiant moisturizer w/ SPF 15, it's liquid but thicker than Olay Complete, I don't love it but it's decent for daily moisturizing
