The Wednesday Question

I can't believe it's already been a week since the last question! I'm desperate to read your answers to this week's question, so please take a minute to respond, and I thank you in advance!

What do you use to remove your makeup?

Do you have a system that works for you? Do you use towelettes? Baby wipes? Makeup remover and a cotton pad? Or maybe you have a good cleanser that removes everything all at once and you don't need that extra first step? I'd love to know what works for you, because recently I've been using a new mascara that does not remove easily with my usual cleanser. Please share your routine with us!

  1. I use Nyx Eye & Lip Makeup remover for my eye and lip makeup. It's the stuff that I found that works the best for me without irritating my skin. I like the Biore facial wipes for the rest of my face but I'll often cleanse my face with either this foaming cleanser I have by skin i.d. or with my Lush Angels On Bare Skin.

  2. 3 things:
    baby wipes
    OR
soap and washcloth (carefully round the eyes)
    OR
    Vaseline.

i usually follow up my cleansing with a little exfoliation and then a moisturizer and/or Vitamin c serum.

of course, some night i get lazy!

  3. Neutrogena Oil-Free Makeup Remover (for stubborn eye makeup)

Ponds Cold Cream (for Revlon Colorstay, and easier to remove eye makeup).

I wish I could find an all-in-one cleanser that would remove everything! I thought Purpose was doing the job but it just doesn't do the trick with Colorstay.

  4. Hmm let;s see. When I'm feeling really lazy I use Almay makeup remover pads (the oil-full version lol) and follow up with a towelette.

Sometimes I also use Lancome Bi-Facil (or Neutrogena when i'm poor) and instead of a cotton pad I use them on the towelettes (usually the generic ones from WalMart) and this pretty much works great for removimg my makeup.

  5. I use Neutrogena Oil Free Makeup Remover or Clean & Clear Oil Fre Makeup Remover (they're both those dual ones that you shake up and apply on a cotton pad)

    Or Equate make-up remover wipes

Or if I'm really in a rut, lotion on a cotton pad.

  6. If I have some crazy eye makeup on that won't budge, I'll use baby oil to take it off.

Most days I'm all about the makeup remover/cleansing towelettes. Doesn't matter which brand. Whatever is cheapest at the store I'm at, at the time. Target, Walmart, Walgreen's, doesn't matter.

  7. I usually use the baby wipes to remove my makeup but for mascaras I use the Cosmedicine cleanser and toner which i bought in sephora. It was just $ 8 and I have seen this in Marshalls as well. It is so gentle and removes everything.

  8. i generally use baby wipes cuz they're so cheap (3 packs of 72 fragranc free wipes per pack for 3GBP!) and they do the job, especially when it comes to removing waterproof mascara!! but i'm currently using clinique's eye-makeup remover and clinique's mild liquid facial soap to wash off the rest :D

  9. It's such a huge production at my house because I'm neurotic about leaving junk on my skin before bed... but I'll use a towelette first-- I've had good luck with a few brands and right now I'm using L'Oreal's Revitalift ones (like I'm SO old... and I got them dirt cheap) and then I'll either use Clean n' Clear eye m/u remover or Lancome BiFacil (it's a classic that will never die!) And only after that do I start cleansing my face with my Clarisonic. *sigh* See, I told you it was a huge production!

  10. I use Clinique Take The Day Off for Eyes and Lips to remove my lipstick and eye products, then I wash my face with my Paul and Joe Foaming Facial Wash!

  11. I use the Boots No7 Eye Make Up remover- truly the best I have tried, gets everything off with minimal rubbing. For the face I use DHC cleansing oil- love oil based cleansers!

Let me know if you are still up for doing the UK/US beauty swap :)

  12. OCM (Oil cleansing method)!! It removes every bit of dirt and the toughest of makeups!

  13. I shower at night, so I just put on Noxema right before I get into the shower, and then wipe off whatever mascara ends up under my eyes after I'm done in the shower with a towel. I'm kinda bad though and if I don't shower I tend to not remove my make up until the next morning, when I use clearasil pore cleansing pads.

  14. Wow, ladies, thank you!! I am blown away at the great response to this question and I have so many new products and methods to look into! I knew I could count on you all for some fantastic information! xoxo

In case you're curious, here's my latest routine:

Lazy nights: Baby wipes followed by CVS brand eye makeup remover on a cotton pad (it's ok but I *know* there must be better out there), followed by one more baby wipe to remove the eye makeup remover residue.

Non-lazy nights: CVS eye makeup remover followed by whatever cleanser I'm using at the moment (I'm currently testing a few for review).

AM routine: Since I'm not removing makeup in the morning (because I did that the night before), when I'm in the shower, I just use my regular facial cleanser mixed with a bit of salt or sugar for a nice exfoliating cleanser treatment. :)

  15. I usually just wash my face. I have some makeup remover from The Body Shop (it was on sale!) for particularly stubborn eye makeup, but I rarely use it. Eye makeup seems to prefer to come off my eyes rather than staying put. I also have some Dollar Tree makeup remover wipes for when I'm too lazy to wash my face.

  16. Pursebuzz just had a video about removing makeup gently. I found it useful :-)

  17. I used to use the Biore face wipes - which I love - but decided it wasn't all that environmental. To keep the idea alive I bought a 12pack of cheap washcloths from Target so I get a new one each evening - I like a clean face wipe! I'm using Biore's Clean Things Up in the evening to take off makeup and the Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser in the shower. Biore really works for my skin!

  18. I have a few different options.

For makeup that isn't supposed to be super long wearing etc. I use Mandom Cleansing Express. The best freaking thing ever. And then I'm done. Bed.

For the tough stuff I use MAC Cleanse-Off oil before anything else.

I could also use Philosophy Purity 2x (once to remove makeup and once to make sure everything's squeaky clean).

Aaand of course I also have a crapton of wipes.

  19. On lazy nights -which is most nights, J&J Head-to-Toe gets all my makeup off quick and painless without rubbing AND it doesn't sting my eyes. I just wet my face, lather, rinse. Eye makeup comes off like a dream, but I don't wear waterproof mascara.

  20. I used to use cotton balls soaked in olive oil to remove eye makeup, then wash all over with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil. Right now, I'm trying something new, the Oil Cleansing Method, have you heard of it? Nothing's changed much except I nix the cleanser and basically rub a mixture of castor oil and olive oil all over my face, then use a hot steamy washcloth to rub it all away. Olive oil has always been great for removing any type of mascara, in my experience. Even waterproof. But I understand that it's not right for all skin types. I'm really incredibly dry skinned, though, so I need all the moisture I can get.

  21. I just use baby oil in the shower and then follow with my cleanser..right now i am using l'oreal revitalift cream cleanser, and sometimes at night i use ponds towelettes (pink package, anti aging) which i am not real fond of because they leave my face somewhat sticky-ish

  22. Olive oil all over. On exfoliation day, rub it all over, then put a little baking soda on top and rub it in. My skin is oily and large pored, so I finish off with detergent-based solution - actually, Suave Clarifying shampoo that's been diluted by half.

The olive oil acts to break the day's makeup and dirt down into solution. The baking soda gives it that little extra exfoliation, and, finally, the detergent-based cleaner breaks it all down and washes it away.

  23. Hey ladies! Thanks for all the new responses! You all are so wonderful for taking the time to describe your makeup-removal techniques and, believe me, I've read each one (two or three times over!). I'm taking notes and will try many of these suggestions and of course I'll blog about my encounters. So thank you!! xo

  24. If I wear foundation (which I rarely do) I'll either use a makeup remover wipe or use the Neutrogena Fresh Foaming cleanser, which is very good at cleaning face makeup but not so gentle at taking off eye makeup. If I'm just wearing washable mascara w/ eyeliner, I'll just use a gel cleanser and use the extra foam to clean off my makeup. I really like the Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Acne Wash for that, it cleans really easily, but any gel cleanser that isn't too harsh works.
