Have you heard of 3-D nail art? I am still working on trying 1-D nail art (polka dots and stripes)! But these pictures have captured my attention. Check this out:
The manufacturer of these nail art molds, 3D Nail, sells teeny tiny molds (the pics above are just a small sampling of the designs that are available on their site) which you fill with acrylic liquid and powder (the same stuff that's used for acrylic nails). Once it hardens, you pop the design out of the mold and affix it to your nail (either with the residual acrylic or with nail glue). You can then decorate and paint the design however you see fit. These molds aren't intended for natural nails, which makes sense because I don't think they'd adhere as well to a natural nail. Anyway, just to give you an idea of how small these molds are, here's a picture:
Here's an instructional video as well, which I found quite interesting:
The molds are made in Taiwan and retail for around $7 USD each. You can purchase them through their website or through their ebay auctions.
Even though I wouldn't be able to wear these designs myself since I don't have acrylic nails, the website indicates that you can also use these molds for jewelry and keychains. The possibilities seem endless.
Is 3-D nail art something you've tried, or would consider trying? I'd love to know your thoughts!
If I wore acrylics I may give them a try. I wouldn't put them on every nail though, lol.
ReplyDeleteEven if I wore acrylics, I just don't think I could rock these! I would obsessively be running a finger over the surface of my nail and it would probably drive me nuts!
ReplyDeletexo
I might because they have the cutest designs but they seem more like for little kids - in middle school or something.
ReplyDeleteBack when I wore acrylics in high school I did have 3D designs sometimes =) also I did the tacky little charms that dangle off the tips of the nails. Classy, I am not LOL
ReplyDeleteHey Cassie! I totally agree. I think one little tiny flower or even one of those cute fish on ONE nail would be fine. But a lot of designs all clumped together on each nail? I don't think so. lol :)
ReplyDeleteHey Amber! We are *definitely* sisters from another mother because I thought the same thing too! I would be touching my nails way too much if I had these little designs on them. lol :)
Hey ndoodles! I agree with you--some of these designs are definitely for younger women, but I think it's all about how you apply them and how many you use at one time. Don't you think? :)
Hey Joey! Oh believe me, if they had those two things when I was in high school we'd be twins, no doubt. lol! :)
I'm not a big fan of acrylics, they look TOO fake to me. I am a fan of nail art.. but I think these are waayyy too busy looking for me.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who can do these must have great skill! I suck at even doing 2d nail art.
I tend to pick at my nails subconsciously, so anything 3d on my nails would probably be ripped off within 2 hours. haha
i know that japanese nail arts now are going more 3d-ish
ReplyDeleteits nice to look at, but i don't think its actually 'wearable'..
i mean, in my case, i can't go type like how i used to because i got long nails...how much more if i have blings on them..
i guess ill just end up just staring at them & not do anything..hahaha
take a look at THIS
its nice to look at but imagine when you run your fingers on the hair..the hairs will get tangled in it..& worse can even break your nails..ekkk!!!!
another thing too..
koda kumi, a japanese singer was 'tagged' as the best girl to have 3d nails (or something like that..sorry i can't remember the exact 'tag')..THIS is how her nails looks like
awww,man...
if my nails are like that i don't think ill be moving my hands anymore..haha
the gist of my 'rant' is..
im satisfied with my noob nail designs..wehehehe
i can just put rhinestones..& that's it..but im still not used to rhinestones..it kinda makes my nails feel 'weird...
sorry for the long comment.. XD
>_<
Hey Sheila! I totally agree with you--anyone who can do this type of art must have *incredible* skill! And I also agree that I would subconsciously pick at these, or at the very least, touch them constantly if they were on my nails. But perhaps it's something you get used to over time? Who knows! :)
ReplyDeleteThiamere! OMG your comment cracked me up! :) I agree that some of these designs would make it *impossible* to type, especially since *plain* long nails make it hard to type. Also, it didn't even occur to me how it would feel to run your fingers through your hair! ouch! But if all you had on your nails was a few little stars (like one or two of the stars in the picture I posted above) I think it would be just fine, right?
I am just like you--I love to look at these designs, no matter how impractical they may be (like those crazy pictures you linked to in your post! WOW!).
If I were to wear 3D nail art, I think it would be one star or one little flower from one of the images in my post, and it would only be on one finger. I think that would look really cute and it wouldn't interfere with typing! :)
Hahaha the donut and ice cream decals remind me of homer simpson :D
ReplyDeleteBut I don love them-- they're really cute, and apparently very popular in Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Thailand.
I personally don't like acrylics because they're a little too... artificial for me. And plus I'm blessed with good nails that I can grow out, so I have no need for them :/
And the most I've ever done to adorn my nails was with glittered Hello Kitty decals on the first day of middle school. LOL!
ReplyDeleteHey Shela! Yeah, I'm afraid that the most I've ever done to this point is use decals as well. I'm still working on trying to paint polka-dots and stripes, so I think it will be a while before I entertain the thought of actually making 3-d art. lol. But I sure do LOVE to look at it. It's so fascinating to me! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joey. I used to wear 3D nailart with little charms that dangled on the tip of the nail. I think we used to call 3D nails..junk nails, lol. That was about '95 though!
ReplyDeleteAt 29, I would MAYBE rock 1 nail like this, but even still probably not.
They were cute when i was younger though..a little tacky, but cute, lol.
Hey Jalaea! I guess I missed out on that first wave of 3-D nail art. If it was around '95, I'm wondering how I escaped this because I think I actually wore acrylics for a bit in the mid-90s. lol! :)
ReplyDeletehi. i think 3d is nice and cute and even wearable. maybe at east its *in* to wear them all in every nail. but i personally think its cuter to have some 3d designs on few nails ( on one nail in each hand or so). if theyr well covered and nicely done - nothing happens with your hair :). and i think its more matter of a designs. i mean 3d is 3d. but some allready look like 5d lol. so yeah problems comes with 5d's lol.
ReplyDeletecheers:)))
Hi helina! Thanks so much for the comment. :) It's good to know that these designs don't get caught in your hair if they're well covered. That totally makes sense and I never thought about that before. Thanks so much! :)
ReplyDeleteI own these and LOVE them !! They are very easy to use and don't get caught on anything,if ur into nail art DEFINITELY try them!!
ReplyDeletehey again :)
ReplyDeletewell im from Estonia and nailtechnician or how you call them.
for example 3D flowers are really popular in here. we cover it with a lil gel or uv cover polish( not sure hows its proper spelling in in english). i did myself a lil 3d flowers all over nails and covered them with gel, so it looked like acvarium technic(?)
but i really wld like to get my hands on some molds iv seen. but so hard to get them around here. and if then they ask like 1mil for the mold o.o no tnx i guess.
if enyone got any gd tips or anything plz mail me :) teehelina@windowslive.com
tnx:)
Hi Anon! Thanks for the comment and I'm happy to hear that you like these and that they don't get caught on anything! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Helina! Thanks for your comment! I will pass along your email to my contact at 3-D Nail and hopefully you can order directly from them without it costing too much! :)
they contacted :) tnx alot
ReplyDeleteHi helina! Oh good! I really hope you're able to get the molds you've been wanting (and that you don't have to pay too much to get them). :)
ReplyDeleteIm now wearing some 3D nails is a simple design thats managable with some rhinestones and bows! super cute ^___^ I live in Spain and its not that popular but i love it.. that only problem it has given me so far is that i cant stop touching them and that they have fallen a couple of times... better buy a higher quality glue :S hahahaha
